Abstract Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) was well-known related with multiple pathogenic factors and normally therapies comprised by western or Chinese medicines. Present study was design to identified the bacterial community characterized by 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and determine the modulate affection of bacterial composition response western and Chinese medicine Qing huayin (QHY) as well as antibiotic on model rats. Result shown the overall structure alteration of bacterial appeared under medicine applied, antibiotic caused a marked depletion in bacterial diversity and richness, the enrichment of Firmicutes (85.1-90.7%) in antibiotic-free convert to Bacteroidetes (30.7-34.6%) in antibiotic-added model rat were demonstrated. Firmicutes was most dominant phylum and accounting for 85.1%-90.5% and significantly decreased till 21.9%-68.5% in antibiotic-added treatments. Especially QHY-treated show highest RA of Firmicutes (90.5%) and the amelioration of CAG using QHY attributed by beneficial bacterial enrichment, especially Ruminococcus, Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. In addition, alpha and beta diversity analysis also demonstrated the clear dispersion and aggregation that revealed the alteration and steady of bacterial community structures. In summary, QHY has potential application value in the treatment of CAG which attributed to close relation with the modulatory of internal bacterial communities.

Abstract The presence of anaerobic microflora on fresh beef carcass and rump steaks, which may contribute to meat spoilage, was explored in this study. A total of 120 carcass and 120 rump steak swabs were collected immediately after slaughtering and boning, respectively from five meat plants, anaerobically incubated and enriched d at 4°C for 3 weeks. This was followed by DNA extraction and 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing using the Illumina MiSeqTM, with subsequent bioinformatics analysis. The enriched microbiota of the samples was classified and grouped into 149 operational taxonomic units (OTUs). The microbiota recovered from both sample types consisted mainly of Carnobacterium, with an average relative abundance of 28.4% and 32.8% in beef carcasses and beef rump steaks, respectively. This was followed by Streptococcus, Serratia, Lactococcus, Enterococcus, Escherichia-Shigella, Raoultella and Aeromonas ranging from 1.5–20% and 0.1–29.8% in enriched carcasses and rump steak swabs, respectively. Trichococcus, Bacteroides, Dysgomonas, Providencia, Paraclostridium and Proteus were also present ranging from 0–0.8% on carcass and 0–1.8% on rump steak swabs, respectively. Alpha and Beta diversity measurements showed limited diversity between the two sample types, but some differences between samples from the beef plants investigated were evident. This study highlights the presence of potential spoilage bacteria, mainly anaerobic genera on and between carcass and rump steaks, as an indication of contamination on and between these samples.

Abstract Background and Aim: Chronic atrophic gastritis is a common gastric disease which shows a positive correlation with the occurrence of gastric cancer. Traditional chinese medicines have been used in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis. There is no solid evidence for the curative effects of traditional chinese medicines. This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of Weifuchun tablets on patients with chronic atrophic gastritis. Methods 97 patients of chronic atrophic gastritis without current H. pylori infection were divided into two groups: an experiment group treated with Weifuchun and a control group treated with teprenone and folic acid for six months. Pathological examination of gastric biopsies and clinical symptoms assessment were performed for all patients before and after treatments. Primary outcome was the pathological response rate in each group evaluated by changes of histological scores.Secondary outcome was the clinical symptom scores. Results Twenty four patients in the Weifuchun group and twenty eight patients in the control group completed the study. The pathological response rates for atrophy and intestinal metaplasia were 66.7% and 45.8% in the Weifuchun group and 66.7% and 42.9% in the folic acid group, respectively, without statistical significance between groups.Clinical symptoms failed to improve after treatments in either group. Conclusions Weifuchun is effective to improve pathological changes of chronic atrophic gastritis in patients without current H. pylori infection. Monotherapy of Weifuchun had a similar efficacy to the combined therapy by teprenone and folic acid in the treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis. Cadmium pollution is becoming a serious problem due to its nondegradability and substantial negative influence on the normal growth of crops, thereby harming human health through the food chain. Rhizospheric bacteria play important roles in crop tolerance. However, there is little experimental evidence which demonstrates how various cadmium concentrations affect the bacterial community in wheat fields including rhizosphere microorganisms and nonrhizosphere (bulk) microorganisms. In this study, 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing technology was used to investigate bacterial communities in rhizosphere and bulk soils under different levels of pollution in terms of cadmium concentration. Both the richness and diversity of the rhizosphere microorganism community were higher under nonpolluted soil and very mild and mild cadmium-contaminated soils than compared with bulk soil, with a shift in community profile observed under severe cadmium pollution. Moreover, cadmium at various concentrations had greater influence on bacterial composition than for the nonpolluted site. In addition, redundancy analysis (RDA) and Spearman’s analysis elucidated the impact of exchangeable Cd and total Cd on bacterial community abundance and composition. This study suggests that cadmium imposes a distinct effect on bacterial community, both in bulk and rhizosphere soils of wheat fields. This study increases our understanding of how bacterial communities in wheat fields shaped under different concentrations of cadmium.

AbstractSeagrass meadows are hotspots of biodiversity with considerable economic and ecological value. The health of seagrass ecosystems is influenced in part by the makeup and stability of their microbiome, but microbiome composition can be sensitive to environmental change such as nutrient availability, elevated temperatures, and reduced pH. The objective of the present study was to characterize the bacterial community of the leaves, bulk samples of roots and rhizomes, and proximal sediment of the seagrass species Cymodocea nodosa along the natural pH gradient of Levante Bay, Vulcano Island, Italy. The bacterial community was determined by characterizing the 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and analyzing the operational taxonomic unit classification of bacterial DNA within samples. Statistical analyses were used to explore how life-long exposure to different pH/pCO2 conditions may be associated with significant differences in microbial communities, dominant bacterial classes, and microbial diversity within each plant section and sediment. The microbiome of C. nodosa significantly differed among all sample types and site-specific differences were detected within sediment and root/rhizome microbial communities, but not the leaves. These results show that C. nodosa leaves have a consistent microbial community even across a pH range of 8.15 to 6.05. The ability for C. nodosa to regulate and maintain microbial structure may indicate a semblance of resilience within these vital ecosystems under projected changes in environmental conditions such as ocean acidification.
