The abundance of different energy sources such as coal, natural gas, and crude oil are in the Africa region, yet one of the lowest electric energy per capita consumption. Different factors have been attributed to this abysmal energy failure in the literature, leading to her slow economic and industrial advancement. These factors include poor maintenance of power generation infrastructure and lack of policy continuity, among others. The purpose of this article is to prioritize these power generation problems for proper budgetary allocation by managers of electric power. The fuzzy VIKOR technique is presented for the evaluation and ranking of these power generation problems. The analysis showed that poor maintenance is the most critical challenge of bedeviling power generation in Nigeria. The Fuzzy VIKOR produces the same result as the classical VIKOR used previously in resolving the problem. The proposed technique addresses the challenge of uncertainty and subjectivity by applying linguistic variables in the decision-making process, which the classical VIKOR is incapable of handling.

Purpose This study aims to cover issues regarding traveling to a tourist destination which has seen war and terrorism. These problems can be addressed altogether, as they are interrelated. Based on tourists’ opinions, this paper aims to focus on measures or steps that can be taken to ensure changing their perceptions about a certain destination. Design/methodology/approach This study targets tourism experts for their opinions regarding the measures most necessary to change the perceptions of tourists. Their opinions were extracted through a questionnaire based on three criteria with four alternatives. Furthermore, raw data extracted are studied using the Fuzzy-VIKOR technique to rank the alternatives in order of importance. Moreover, the questionnaire also aims to know the perception of participants by asking them what would make them trust a destination with a history of terrorism. Findings The problems captivate the attention of government, guiding them to ensure that they need to focus more on physical security of tourists if they expect tourism industry to thrive. It was found that the steps needed to be taken are in the areas of international trade, cultural exchange programs and social media advertising. Originality/value Research based on improving tourist perception of Pakistan to develop Pakistan as a tourist destination is scarce. The study takes four different alternatives into account for image recovery and based on those alternatives, it provides a unique solution to the government in this regard with the necessary steps they need to take and attempts to help the government ensure tourism expansion in the country.

Results from the 1979 Minnesota Computer Literacy Assessment conducted by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium, show that high school females performed better than males in some specific areas of programming. The areas of female superiority are those such as problem analysis and algorithmic application where the problems are expressed verbally rather than mathematically. While these findings may result from unique features of computer education in Minnesota, the findings may also be a consequence of the fact that the Minnesota assessment instrument was relatively free of mathematical bias. These findings and those of the 1982 National Assessment of Science on female superiority in “science decision making” imply that women are better than men at tasks usually defined as systems analysis rather than program coding.

Abstract The European electric market is going to be fully liberalized moving the problems, related to the minimization of the electric energy production cost, to the Independent Power Producers. In the present paper, a computational code, developed by the Authors, to discover the management strategy permitting to minimize the total variable cost (in terms of fuel consumption) required by a power generation system to face a specific load demand, is described. Subsequently, the code has been applied to an existing power generation system comparing the fuel consumption in different management strategies. It has also emerged that the code may represent an useful advice in the power generation system upgrading feasibility, calculating the fuel saving obtainable with the addition of new or repowered units.

Power generation by municipal waste incineration provides a template not only for waste reduction but also for energy recovery. However, incineration plants face considerably strong protests from local communities. In such context, this study investigates the public's risk perception towards an operating incineration plant by using a word-frequency-based decision making approach to provide insight into risk mitigation while enhancing public acceptance. An operating municipal waste plant located at Chengdu, Sichuan Province was used as a case study to examine the risk perception posed by the host communities. Face-to-face interviews through a structured questionnaire were applied to data collection. A word frequency analysis was used to identify the key factors that influence public's risk perception and construct a multi-attributive decision matrix for the risk assessment. Entropy-based fuzzy decision making was implemented to discriminate the risk semi-quantitatively. To alleviate possible conflicts, policy implications were given.

This chapter uses intuitionistic fuzzy VIKOR (IFVIKOR) for the application of ERP software selection. First, priority values of criteria in ERP software selection problem have been determined by using the judgments of the experts. IFWA operator is utilized to integrate the judgments of the experts about the weights of criteria. Then, the result of the IFVIKOR can be employed to define the most appropriate ERP alternative in uncertain environment. Intuitionistic fuzzy numbers are presented in all phases in order to overcome any vagueness in the decision-making process. The final decision depends on the degree of importance of each decision so that wrong degree of importance causes the mistaken result. The researchers generally determine the degrees of importance of each decision makers according to special characteristics of each decision maker as subjectivity. In order to overcome this subjectivity in this chapter, the judgments of decision makers are degraded to unique decision by using the importance degree of each expert. There is no study about ERP software selection using IFVIKOR.

A formal industrialization commenced with steam power generation and the application of machines that mechanized the industrial work in past. Subsequently, the development in electric power, the assembly lines, and mass manufacturing led toward the third era of numeric control and automation. Now in modern era of industry 4.0, robots connected with the computers and machines. Tools are working on machines learning algorithms and running the cyber physical manufacturing systems. Sensing the need of hour, Indian manufacturing organizations are working hard to implement the practices of Industry 4.0. Working on identical direction, the author has identified 12 enablers poignant the espousal of Industry 4.0 in Indian manufacturing sectors from literature review and by opinion of experts. Further, the author has used Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique for developing the structural and circumstantial kinship among the enablers of Industry 4.0.

The possibility of increasing the efficiency of drying coal concentrate unit on the basis of pipe-dryers has been investigated by converting the heat of flue gases outlet into electrical energy and the heat potential of hot water supply system with a heat power generation unit operating on low-boiling working fluids. A method and an algorithm for calculating the thermal mode of the unit under the conditions of specified limitations on temperature pressures in heat exchangers have been developed. On the basis of mathematical modeling of thermal conditions, it has been found that under the conditions of PD-11 pipe-dryers, when the heat power generation unit operates with butane-pentane mixture, 204 kW of electricity can be generated with the condensation cycle, and 1780 kW of heat and 65 kW of electric energy can be generated with the heating cycle.
