This study was designed to determine the in vitro anticancer potential of the Astaxanthin isolated from shrimp shell waste (ETC) against Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma (EAC) induced cancer in swiss albino mice. The anticancer activity was assessed using in vitro cytotoxicAity, mean survival time, tumor volume and hematological studies. The reliable criteria for evaluating the potential of any anticancer agent is the prolongation of lifespan of the animal and decrease in WBC count of blood. The high dose of ETC (200 mg/kg, orally) significantly reduced the tumor growth which was demonstrated by increased lifespan of the mice and restoration of hematological parameters. ETC was also found to be cytotoxic in the in vitro parameter which shows that ETC possesses significant anticancer potential.

Objective: Pyrazolopyrimidines are heterocyclic molecules containing nitrogen as the main composition, and hence, they exhibit pharmacological efficacy. They are analogs of purines so that possessing wide applications in the field of medicinal chemistry. The main objective of this study is to synthesize different derivatives of pyrazole-pyrimidine classes by adopting simple methodology as well as by employing green chemistry. The purpose of the synthesis of these molecules is to study the antitumor activity against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cell lines. Methods: After literature studies, it makes us to involve in the research of synthetic organic chemistry, especially to synthesize new compounds of pyrazolopyrimidines. We are reported solvent-free synthesis of pyrazolo [3,4-d]-pyrimidine-thiones through ethyl acetoacetate, hydrazine hydrate, thiourea, and different benzaldehydes. An ionic liquid 2-methyl-imidazolium-oxalate catalyzed the reactions under ultrasonication bath. Both conventional and ultrasonic methods were employed and comparison studies have been made. It was found that ultrasonic method completed the reaction quicker than the conventional method. All the synthesized compounds were confirmed their structures by 1HNMR, Fourier transform infrared, 13C-NMR, and elemental analysis spectra. The compounds were tested for in vitro anticancer activity against EAC cell lines. Most compounds revealed significant anticancer activity relative to doxorubicin as a positive control with inhibitory concentration (IC50) values. Results: Ultrasonication method is a simple method under which all the reactions were completed at faster time (<7 min) compared to the convention method. Among eight molecules, 8a and 8d completed the reactions at a faster rate. We reported IC50 values of all the molecules, in which 8e and 8g were exhibited excellent potency against EAC cell lines at different concentrations . Conclusions: Ultrasonication method is an excellent method for the organic synthesis. We are herein reported that under this method, all the reactions are completed within 7 min. Hence, it is superior method than the conventional method. All synthesized molecules have shown good inhibitor potency against EAC cell lines. Among them, two molecules 8e and 8g have shown excellent inhibitor potency.

Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the anticancer activity of the ethanolic extract of Parkinsonia aculeata (EEPA) leaves. Methods: Anticancer activity of P. aculeata (EEPA) of leaf extract was evaluated in Swiss albino mice against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cell line at the doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight orally. The extracts were administered for 14 consecutive days. 24 h of the last dose and 18 h of fasting, the mice were sacrificed, and the anticancer effect of EEPA was assessed by evaluating tumor volume, viable and nonviable tumor cell count, tumor weight, hematological parameters, and biochemical parameters of EAC bearing mice. Results: P. aculeata extracts showed a significant decrease in (p<0.01) tumor volume, viable cell count, tumor weight, and elevated the life span of EAC bearing mice. Hematological profile such as red blood cell, hemoglobin count reverted to normal level in EEPA treated mice. The extracts significantly (p<0.05) decreased the levels of lipid peroxidation and significantly (p<0.05) increased the levels of reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase and catalase. Conclusion: The results showed that the EEPA was effective in inhibiting the tumor growth in ascitic models and that is comparable to 5-fluorouracil.

Objective: To evaluate the agglutination and anti-cancer activity of different dietary plants, commonly used in Indian dietary system for its therapeutic applications. Methods: Sap/phloem exudates from different dietary plants were collected in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) was evaluated for lectin activity by using haemagglutination method in serial dilution manner. Anticancer activity of the different samples was evaluated against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells by using trypan blue exclusion method. Results: Samples belongs to Cucurbitaceae family showed promising lectin activity among test samples. Praecitrullus fistulosus and Cucumis prophetarum give 256HU/mg whereas Cucumis dipsauses gives 128HU/mg activity, whereas Abelmoschus esculentus (16HU) which gives low lectin activity. Praecitrullus fistulosus shows anticancer activity 67.38% inhibition at 200µg concentration followed by Cucumis prophetum of 56.36% at 200µg concentration against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells. Conclusion: The present study demonstrated that dietary lectin having a potential role in the biological field. High lectin activity demonstrates the anticancer effect in Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) model system, in vitro. Further study needs to isolate and evaluate biologically active lectin molecule in order to demonstrate the anticancer effect.
