The use of Si3N4, alloys for high temperature, high stress structural applications has prompted numerous studies of the oxynitride glasses which exist as intergranular phases in their microstructures. Oxynitride glasses have been investigated recently in their bulk form in order to understand their crystallization behavior for subsequent Si3N4 applications and to investigate their worth as glass-ceramic precursors. This research investigates the crystallization sequence of a glass having a normalized composition of Y26Si30Al11 ON11 and lying in the A1N-Y2O3-SiO2 section of the Y-Si-Al-O-N system. Such glasses exist as intergranular phases in the technologically important Y2O3/Al2O3-fluxed Si3N4 alloys.

Abstract METGLAS MBF-10A is a brazing foil in ductile, flexible metallic-glass form (a similar grade, MBF-10, is identical except that it has larger dimensional tolerances). This foil provides an alloy with high strength at both elevated and room temperatures. It can be used to join highly stressed stainless steels and heat-resisting alloy components. Major application is in fabricating high-temperature jet-engine parts. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, microstructure, tensile properties. It also includes information on heat treating and joining. Filing Code: Ni-272. Producer or source: Allied Corporation.

In a hydrogen-doped metallic glass, there appear low-temperature and high-temperature internal friction peaks respectively associated with a point-defect relaxation and the crystallization. The high-temperature-side slope of low-temperature peak and also the low-temperature-side slope of high-temperature peak enhance the background internal friction near the room temperature. A hydrogen-doped Mg-base metallic glass was proposed as a high-damping material to be used near and somewhat above the room temperature. Stability of the high damping was also checked.

Nanoscale dimples and periodic corrugations are observed on the fracture surface of Zr-based bulk metallic glass composite (BMGC). The nanoscale periodic corrugations display a curved shape, which is different from that observed in previous works. In addition, the crystallization behavior of [Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text][Formula: see text] BMG was investigated. The second crystallization event of Zr-Cu-Ni-Al BMG can be controlled by annealing or tuning cooling rate. The in situ Zr-based BMGC was prepared via lowering cooling rate. The Zr-based BMGC displays completely brittleness.
