Despite the fact that the government is the main actor of economic development, it also invites private parties to be actively involved in the economic development. The main objective of public and private investment is economic development. But the ultimate goal of investment and economic development itself is to improve the welfare of the community. This study seeks to investigate the effect of private and public investment on economic growth. Furthermore, it also investigates the impact the investment on the community welfare either directly or indirectly through economic growth by way of analyzing the data on private and public investment, economic growth, and the human development index of local governments in Indonesia for the period from 2012 to 2016. Hypotheses were tested using PLS (Partial Least Squares). The results show that both private and public investment directly influence economic growth and indirectly affect the welfare of the people through economic growth. Direct test results also show the positive effect of economic growth on community welfare.

Literature presents contradictory views regarding the impact of public and private investment on the economic growth of a country. India being a developing country, where the major share of investment is by public sector, the question which props up is what among public and private investment is contributing more towards the economic growth of the country. In this framework, the gross domestic product (GDP) can be fairly explained as a function of public infrastructure investment and private infrastructure investment. Johansen’s co-integration was used to test the long-run relationship between the variables over the period from 1961–1962 to 2016–2017. A vector error correction model (VECM) along with an impulse response function and variance decomposition analysis was done to measure the impact of public infrastructure investment and private infrastructure investment on the GDP. Based on the empirical evidence discussed earlier, it was evident that both public and private infrastructure investments have a significant impact on the economic growth of the nation. Findings which came up in this study correlate to majority findings of past literature that, when compared with public investment, it is private investment which is capable of giving a better impetus to economic growth.

This article examines the impact of public and private investment on economic growth in Algeria covering the period from 1970 to 2017. By applying the Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag model (ARDL)-(bounds testing approach). The key findings of the study concluded that there is a long-run relationship between public and private investment and economic growth in Algeria. The result of the Augmented Dickey Fuller unit root test (ADF) showed that the variables are stationary at the level and at the first difference. In addition, the results of the cointegration test indicated that the variables are cointegrated and therefore have the ability to move together over the long term. The parsimonious error correction mechanism showed that private investment is significantly related to economic growth. The result indicated that a 1 percent increase in the present value of private investment, on average, stimulates economic growth by 0.09 percent. Similarly, the value of public investment is positively related to economic growth. On average, a 1 percent increase in public investment stimulates growth in Algeria by 0.05 percent. the results of short-run dynamics reveal that, the error correction term (ECM) is negative and significant (-0.54), which means that 54% of the disequilibrium will be adjusted annually.

This paper uses the Co-integrating VAR’s [Johansen (1988); Ericsson, et al. (1998)] to examine the relationship between economic growth, public investment, and private investment in the presence of unit roots. Exogeneity is not implicitly assumed but explicitly tested for, and evidence of co-integration and feedback between public and private investment leads to a model in the form of a parsimonious VAR. The analysis is conducted using 37 years of annual data for Pakistan. The analysis suggests that public investment has a positive impact on private investment, and that economic growth drives both private and public investment as predicted by the accelerator-based models.

The increasing number of regions proposing themselves to form new autonomous regions since the enactment of Law Number 32 of 2004 concerning "Regional Government", aims to improve economic development and the welfare of the people in each region. The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of regional expansion on the economic growth of North Toraja Regency. The Technik of data collection in this study uses the documentary Technik, which is in the form of reports from relevant agencies. The analysis technique used is by using the independent sample T-test. The results of the study show that regional expansion has an impact on the economic growth of North Toraja Regency.

Se ha considerado información anual del 2007 al 2014, referida a gobiernos subnacionales; para el primer objetivo se ha realizado la caracterización de gobiernos locales y gobierno regional; para el segundo objetivo, se analiza las implicancias que tiene la inversión pública sobre el desarrollo socioeconómico, mediante un modelo econométrico. Se ha caracterizado a la gestión de los gobiernos locales y el gobierno regional, encontrando problemas en la ejecución de inversiones, como la falta de calidad en proyectos de inversión, hechos de corrupción, limitadas capacidades de autoridades y funcionarios, y problemas de transparencia y procesos participativos; se ha evidenciado que las inversiones públicas tienen efectos muy limitados o marginales sobre el desarrollo socioeconómico en nuestro departamento, esto se infiere de los resultados del modelo econométrico aplicado. Conforme a la evidencia empírica, los gobiernos subnacionales no han generado mejoras significativas en las condiciones de vida de la población y condiciones favorables para el sector privado.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p><strong> </strong></p><p align="center"><strong>ABSTRACT.</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>We  try to explain and analyze the implications that had the public investment of local governments and the regional government in the Department of Puno about the socio-economic development; in recent years, was questioned mainly because they have not shown significant improvements in the socio-economic development despite the increase of resources. It has been considered annual information from 2007 to 2014, referring about sub-national governments; for the first objective it has been taken characterization of local government and regional government; for the second objective, it has been analized the implications that has the public investment on the socio-economic development, using an econometric model. It has been characterized the management local governments and regional government, finding problems in the execution of investments, such as the lack of quality in investment projects, acts of corruption, limited capacities of authorities and civil servants, and problems of transparency and participatory processes;  this shows that public investments have very limited or marginal effects on the socio-economic development in our department, this is the conclussion  from the results of the applied econometric model. This study aims to examine the impact of human capital on economic growth in Nigeria. Despite all effort to improve education condition in Nigeria, there hasn’t been much encouraging improvement. This has caused a large number of the population to move abroad for studies. Most conducive tertiary institutions are owned by private individuals, the government owned universities have been overlooked and recklessly abandoned. In this study OLS multiple regression was adopted to analyze the time series data for the period of 1985-2018 to test if Average Year of Schooling (AVYS), Private Investment in Telecommunication (PIT), Capital Expenditure on Education (CEE), and Recurrent Expenditure on Education (REE) have an impact on growth in Nigeria or not. The data was derived from CBN statistical Bulletin (2018). Result showed that all the four explanatory variables have significant impact on Economic growth. However, it is therefore important for government to increase education budget annually.

Abstract This paper provides new evidence to contribute to the current debate on the relative impact of public and private investment on economic growth and the crowding effect between the two components of investment in South Africa. Using annual data from 1970 to 2017, the study applies the recently developed Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL)-bounds testing approach to cointegration. The study finds that private investment has a positive impact on economic growth both in the long run and short run, while public investment has a negative effect on economic growth in the long run. Further, in the long run, gross public investment is found to crowd out private investment, while its infrastructural component is found to crowd in private investment. The results of the study also reveal that both gross public investment and non-infrastructural public investment crowd out private investment in the short run. Overall, the study finds private investment to be more important than public investment in the South African economic growth process and that the importance of infrastructural public investment in stimulating private investment in the long run cannot be over-emphasized.

Education is the most fundamental right in the current situation, and it is an essential element of economic growth. No country can achieve economic development and goals without investing in education. Pakistan’s economic development is possible when education is equal for both men and women, but the government did not give importance to the sector as it deserved. This study investigated the determinants of female higher education in Pakistan and the impact of women's education on the economic growth of Pakistan. This study utilized time-series data from 1991 to 2019. The autoregressive distribution lag (ARDL) model is applied to estimate the impact. The result shows that in Pakistan, education expenditure has no positive effect on female education. In contrast, a positive relationship between female higher education and GDP growth exists, but this relation is not strong in the short run and long run.

This study investigates the relationship between infrastructure investment and economic growth at the aggregate and sectoral levels, namely, the industrial, agriculture, and services sectors for Pakistan over the period from 1972 to 2015. In contrast to earlier literature, we make a comparative analysis of the different composition of infrastructure investments, including public versus private investment and infrastructure investment in sub-sectors such as in power, roads, and telecommunication sectors. The long-run relationship is estimated using fully modified ordinary least squares (FMOLS) to address the problem of reverse causality. The main conclusion of this study is that both public and private infrastructure investments have positive but different effects on economic growth. In other words, the marginal productivities of private and public infrastructure investments differ across the different sectors of the economy. In most of the cases, public infrastructure investment has a larger impact on economic growth than private infrastructure investment. Two important policy implications emerge from this study, as follows: (1) The different elasticity estimates can be used by policy makers to quantify the impact of policies targeted at the specific sector and (2) the government should develop an enabled policy environment to attract private investment, with the consideration of structural characteristics of the various sectors. The involvement of the private sector in the provision of infrastructure would help to control the tight budgetary situation.
