An operational stop time is a condition where heavy equipment is not working as usual. It is important to avoid this condition since excessive idling wastes an enormous amount of fuel and money. However, the operational stop time of a dump truck Hauller HD465-7 is 2.83 minutes, which is far above the normal standard. This project aims to optimize the improvement of an operational stop time by using a Six Sigma method with optimize plan selection. This will return the operational stop time to the standard range within 1.25 to 1.65 minutes. These steps of define, measure, analyze, improve, and control are applied to the standardization process according to the rules and criteria established by the Six Sigma. The result found that the Six Sigma’s approach which was applied in PT X has reduced the cost from US$1,105,300 to US$963,000 every month. An improvement have been made to matching fleet by combining six fleet of dump trucks at driving speed of 22 km per hour and the average simulated haul distance was 2,000 meters.

AbstrakPT. TASS Engineering is a company engaged in the truck body. The company is working with a second party (contractor) in completing jobs to fulfill customer orders. Among its products, there are 4 types of products (Dump Truck, Subframe, Tilting, and Tanki Truck) whose job is submitted to 4 teams of contractors. The decision on job allocation is done by givingit  to the team that have alredy completed their jobs. This allocation method turns out to cost each team to work on the same type of product that is quite varied. Variations in the cost of work, of course, have an impact on variations in profits. It is necessary to determine the allocation of the type and amount of work that is right for each team so as to get the maximum profit. The optimum allocation result is the decision parameter for the combination of the amount of production of each product in addition to the capacity of each team and the processing time. For this reason research is needed which aims to 1) determine the optimum allocation of work, 2) determine the production target of each product to get the maximum profit. The work allocation is done by comparing the Hungarian Assignment method and the Transportation method to choose the minimum total cost. The optimum solution for the number of products produced to achieve maximum profit is done by the Linear Program. The results of the research findings show that 1) dump trucks were handled by 88% by team-1 and 12% by team-4; subframes are done by 39% by team-2, 26% by team-3, 35% by team-4; tilting is done by team-3, and truck tank is done by team-2; 2)the production target (sales target) to get maximum profit is to produce 73 units of dump trucks, 120 units of subframes, 29 units of tilting, and 33 units of tank trucks. This solution provides a profit increase of 0.9%.Keywords: optimum, Hungarian, Transportation, Linier Programming

At present, Kuzbass coal strip mines pay great attention to improving quality performance of mining equipment operation, including reliability and durability of components and units. One of the ways of the performance improvement is decreasing number of unforeseen failures. To achieve this purpose a mine dump truck part diagnostics should be introduced into a maintenance service procedure. At the same time the process of diagnostics should not increase the machinery downtime, but effectively reveal a condition of motor-wheel gearboxes in the course of dump truck operation. The aim of the research is to increase the reliability and service life of motor-wheel gearboxes of large BelAZ dump trucks. Failure of a motor-wheel gearbox is a rare phenomenon, but the cost of a new gearbox can vary from 3.5 to 10 million rubles. That is why it is important to implement such methods of diagnostics, which allow revealing the condition of gearboxes in the shortest possible time and without disassembling corresponding units. Determination of the actual technical condition of motor-wheel gearboxes is possible by different methods: vibroacoustic; acoustic; thermal; physical and chemical analysis of spent operating materials. The studies showed that none of these methods can be used as a universal one. When justifying and selecting the most suitable method, different factors should be considered, including technological, or a combination of methods should be applied, which will reduce risks, but at the same time increase costs. It is necessary to develop a better diagnostic method based on the use of several methods simultaneously.

Technological advances provide opportunities for construction workers to use heavy equipment as a substitute for manual equipment. Heavy equipment can be a solution to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of work implementation, which can be seen in the cost calculation or unit price. It can be seen that alternative 3 uses 2 units of Kobelco PC-200 excavators, 4 units of 5 m3 dump trucks, these alternatives have the smallest time difference to the original conditions in the field. Therefore, it is very time efficient and fast to process and costs slightly increases and results in fast and efficient workmanship. It can be seen for the difference in costs of - 28,905,973 (- 26%) and the difference in total working time of -25 hours (- 40%). Referring to the description of the calculation of the comparison between the original conditions in the field with alternative calculations, if a minus (-) result is obtained then the work is faster. So it can be recommended to use alternative 3 to carry out soil removal work in the Wastewater Treatment Plant project. Palembang, South Sumatra.

Purpose This paper is one of seven in this volume that aims to elaborate different approaches to quality improvement in education. It delineates a methodology called Six Sigma. Design/methodology/approach The paper presents the origins, theoretical foundations, core principles and a case study demonstrating an application of Six Sigma in a school-community partnership in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Findings The core principles underlying the approach are decreasing variability or unreliability in organizational work processes, eliminate waste or activity that does not add value to desired outcomes, identify defects and decrease their incidence, reduce the cost of work processes, and improve beneficiary/client satisfaction levels. The steps in this statistics-dependent method are design, measure, analyze, improve and control. Originality/value Few theoretical treatments and demonstration cases are currently available on commonly used models of quality improvement that might have potential value in improving education systems internationally. This paper fills this gap by elucidating one promising approach. The paper also derives value as it permits a comparison of the Six Sigma approach with other quality improvement approaches treated in this volume.

One of the risk factors for dump trucks drivers is the over-vibration on various parts and control units. This leads to the formation of high intensity of work. To search for the causes of over-vibration it is proposed to use vibration analysis methods. To search for the causes of over-vibration it is proposed to use vibration analysis methods in time when dump truck is not moving. This allows the escaping the influence of external factors such as like profile of the road, slope, etc. The analysis of the vibrational signal spectrum allows determining the type of defect with a high degree of reliability.

Vehicle costs for rock mass transportation are more than 50% of total costs, among which 25 — 30% are tire costs. The average tire life in mining enterprises is lower than that the value recommended by production plants. The tire life of open-pit dump trucks is more dependent on the normal load on the wheel. The main factor in the change of the normal load is location of the wheel on the dump truck and the open-pit road’s section. Determination of the maximum loaded tire in different operating conditions will allow increasing the tire life and preventing its premature failure. The TKPH index (tire performance) recommended by tire manufacturers does not take into account the diversity of mining conditions and variations of sections of open-pit roads on different routes. The average load per trip is defined as movement of a loaded open-pit truck and an empty open-pit truck on a straight reach of a road. The proposed method for recording of redistribution of the load on the wheel allows making adjustments to recording of TKPH indexes and thereby effectively managing the tire life, which in turn will make it possible to more fully use the tire life, increase its reliability and reduce the cost of rock mass transportation.
