The nursing process remains one of the unique pillars that confer nursing autonomy as a profession. However, implementation of the nursing process in the Regional Hospital Bamenda remains a challenge. This study set to assess barriers to the application of the nursing process at the Regional Hospital Bamenda-Cameroon. The specific objectives were to determine the demographic factors of nurses; identify the institutional factors and to find out the socio-cultural factors that hinder the implementation of the nursing process. A cross sectional study was carried out using a convenient sample of 65 nursing staff. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires with Pearson reliability coefficient of 0.87. The data were analysed using SPSS. The study revealed that 68% of the participants did not know the steps of the nursing process. Advancing age and longevity of nurses; rejection and lack of support of nursing process, non- recognition of those who make an effort, inadequate monitoring; inadequate resources; and nursing peers, family, religion and culture hindered implementation of the nursing process. The nursing process was viewed by all participants as time-consuming and others, 92% as tedious. Implementation of the nursing process was found to be negatively affected by demographic institutional and sociocultural factors. Within the perspectives of this study, the nursing care plan needs to be vulgarized as a professional tool in the hospital, client satisfaction with nursing services evaluated and an observational study carried out using patients’ records to improve on the objectivity of this study.

The study was planned to determine the most common nursing diagnoses according to NANDA International (NANDA-I) taxonomy and difficulties experienced in using of nursing process in COVID-19 outbreak. The sample of the descriptive cross-sectional study consisted of nurses cared for patients with COVID-19 ( n = 114). Average age of nurses is 26.86 ± 6.68. Commonly determined nursing diagnoses according to NANDA-I taxonomy in patients with COVID-19 were imbalanced nutrition (66.7%), impaired gas exchange (40.4%), insomnia (21.1%), acute confusion (31.6%), hopelessness (96.5%), difficulty playing caregiver (84.2%), anxiety (38.6%) willingness to strengthen religious bond (71.9%), risk for infection (64.9%), nausea (49.1%). Twenty-four-years old and younger, high school graduates, caring for intubated patients, and those who stated that they did not use nursing diagnosis had more difficulty in using nursing process (<0.05). The use of nursing diagnoses and process for patients with COVID-19 is extremely important in ensuring individual and qualified nursing care.

Objective: To describe the organizational culture (OC) and its strength in a Hospital in Benin. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study which involved 121 participants (care providers, support and executive staff) of the Lokossa regional hospital in March 2015. Data on dimensions of OC were collected using a questionnaire developed from the Cameron and Quinn’s tools (2006).Results: The mean age of participants was 41 ± 8.3 years and working experience was less or equal to five years in 52.07%. The determined OC was clan-like, hierarchical and results-oriented. This type of OC resulted mainly from cohesion factors, strategic accents, criteria of success, and organizational leadership used by the executive staff. A proportion of 62% (or 75/121) participants had positive perceptions of this OC. However, participants wished more hierarchical and results-oriented OC.Conclusions: The study revealed a mixed OC, positively perceived by workers. This reflects their integration within the organization, adherence to the projects and values of the organization and their involvement in work, allowing a constructive work design. Strengthening the hierarchical orientation and result-based option of the OC may improve the performance of the hospital.

Abstract Purpose To analyze the transition of care from the perspective of cancer patients, in a hospital in southern Brazil, correlating perspectives with sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. Methods Cross-sectional study using the Care Transitions Measure (CTM) with cancer patients undergoing clinical or surgical treatment following hospital discharge. Data collection was completed by telephone between June and September 2019. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results The average CTM score was 74.1, which was considered satisfactory. The CTM factors, understanding about medications (83.3) and preparation for self-management (77.7) were satisfactory, while secured preferences (69.4) and care plan (66.1) were unsatisfactory for an effective and safe care transition. No statistically significant difference was found between sociodemographic variables and the CTM. Among the clinical variables, primary cancer and the secured preferences factor showed a significant difference (p = 0.044). Conclusion The transition from hospital care to the community was considered satisfactory in the overall assessment.

Background: Although female sexual function can be affected by many psychological, interpersonal, and sociocultural factors, limited studies have focused on the relationships between this construct with some concepts such as women’s attitudes toward menstruation and perception from their gender role. Objective: To investigate the association between gender roles and attitude toward menstruation with sexual function among Iranian reproductive women. Materials and Methods: An observational cross-sectional study was carried out on a group of 164 Iranian women referred to the health centers of Torbat Heydariyeh, between August and December 2018. All eligible women filled the female sexual function index (FSFI), Bem Sex Role Inventory, and Menstrual Attitude Questionnaire. Results: The result showed that the total FSFI score was significantly higher in masculine and androgynous gender role groups than women with undifferentiated gender role (p = 0.014, and p = 0.012, respectively). Nevertheless, androgynous women had better sexual arousal than undifferentiated women (p = 0.013). Significant reverse correlations were observed between the perception of menstruation as a debilitating, bothersome, and predictable event with a total score of FSFI and all subscales except lubrication (p = 0.001). In contrast, there was a positive relationship between denial of any effects of menstruation with total FSFI and all its sub-scores except lubrication (p = 0.001). Conclusion: This study highlighted the role of masculinity and androgyny gender role stereotypes and menstrual attitude in the sexual function of heterosexual women. Future studies are needed to explain how these psychological contexts contribute to different aspects of women’s sexuality. Key words: Menstruation, Gender roles, Sexual behavior.

Sexual dysfunction has been extensively studied in methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) patients. However, little data is available regarding sexual inactivity in the MMT patient population. The objectives of this study were to determine the prevalence and putative risk factors for sexual inactivity in the MMT patient population. This cross-sectional study involved 25–71 year old MMT patients recruited from six methadone clinics. Two hundred and seventy-one patients were interviewed for demographic characteristics, comorbidities, concurrent medications used, and sexual activity. The prevalence of sexual inactivity in the MMT population was found to be 47.6%. Increasing age (p < 0.01) and being single/divorced (p < 0.01) were significantly associated with sexual inactivity. In subgroup analysis, increasing age was significantly associated with sexual inactivity in both single/divorced (p < 0.05) and married (p < 0.05) subgroups, while unemployment (p < 0.05) was only significantly associated with sexual inactivity in the earlier subgroup. Our results suggest that sexual inactivity is common in the MMT patient population. The putative risk factors are related to biological and sociocultural factors. Having specific comorbidities or being on certain medications were not correlated with sexual inactivity in the MMT population. Routine assessment of sexual problems is essential, and proper management should be performed for MMT patients.
