This study aims to analyze the misconceptions of Senior High School students and their cause in Optical material. The data collection techniques used in this research are tests and interviews. The three tiers multiple-choice diagnostic test used consists of three levels, the first is a question, the second is the reason for the answer, and the third is the student's confidence level.  The data analysis techniques used in this research are multiple-choice scoring analysis without fining and student's misconceptions level's percentage analysis. The lowest misconception level is 10.4% on the light refraction indicator, and the highest is 41.6% on the distance and characteristic of the image on the concave mirror. The sources of students' misconceptions found in this study are the students themselves, books, friends, teachers, students' daily experiences, and the Internet.

Kata kunci: kompetensi dasar kejuruan,  tes diagnostik DEVELOPING DIAGNOSTIC TEST SYSTEM OF LEARNING DIFFICULTY OF BASIC VOCATIONAL COMPETENCE OF STUDENTS OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLS Abstract This research aimed to: (a) develop a diagnostic test system of basic vocational competency learning difficulties of Vocational High School students, and (b) determine the performance of the diagnostic test system. This study was the second year of a three year research plan. This research was a Software Research and Development. The development model used in this study was a modification of linear sequential model or known as life cycle or the classic waterfall model with 4 steps. Step 1, analysis of system requirements and system design, was done in the first year. Step 2, system implementation and validation, was conducted in the second year. The validation of the system was done by involving 35 teachers who were asked to complete a questionnaire to see performance, design, and adaptability of the system. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Step 3, the evaluation system utilization, will be held in the third year. The diagnostic test system of basic vocational competency learning difficulties of Vocational High School students has been developed using web client-server architecture, three programming languages (PHP, HTML, and Java), Apache web server, MySQL, and Chrome web browser. The system has three user groups, namely administrators, teachers, and students. The performance, design, and adaptability of the system as a whole have verage score of 3.57 on scale of  1 to 4 and categorized as a very good system. That is why the system can be used in further studies in the third year, i.e. evaluation of system utilization. Keywords: basic vocational competencies, diagnostic test

Science Process Skills (SPS) are the essential abilities which need to be mastered in learning biology to strengthen students’ learning outcomes. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between SPS and biology Cognitive Learning Outcome (CLO) of senior high school students. The sample was 100 tenth graders in Malang. The correlational study used two test types as the instrument (i.e. essay and multiple choice). The essay instrument consisted of 10 items which were developed from SPS aspects (basic and integrated skills). Meanwhile, the biology CLO was measured using multiple choice test which consisted of 30 items. The collected data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the highest students’ SPS aspect was observing (78.84%), while the lowest was predicting aspect (27.30%). In addition, the highest achievement of students’ biology CLO was C1 (94.23%), while the lowest was C6 (33.46%). The regression analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between students’ SPS and biology CLO, where the equation was Y = 27.988 + 0.311X.  Therefore, it is crucial to consider SPS to be integrated into a learning activity by using various learning models that empowering these skills to improve students’ biology CLO.

Misconceptions in stoichiometry of senior high school students grade X were studied through a qualitative research using a diagnostic test in the form of multiple choices with reason on 22 students from grade X-3. The validity of the instrument found was 83%. Meanwhile the realiability found was 0,61. The misconceptions found were in: (a) reaction equation is the equality number of coefficient in reactant and in the product for about 13,63%; (b) index number of an atom in a compound is the same as in free element for about 9,09%; (c) the molecule symbol of element in the form of gass has 2 index number for about 27,27%; (d) the greater number of coefficient reaction shows the greater number of substances involved in a reaction for about 9,09%; (e) no matter how many mols in a compound, it has a fixed molecules, 6,2 x 1023 molecules, for about 4,54%; (f) define atom the same as molecules, for about 9,09%; and (g) for P and T that have the same comparison of gass volume that involves in a reaction serves as the smallest coefficient.

This research analyzes the types and reasons of students'  mistakes in solving probability and the analysis statistics problems by qualitative research method. The subjects were 20 senior High school students from a senior high school in Guangxi, China. The data were collected through the student diagnostic test. The students' answers were analyzed by using O'Connel's  analysis. The results show that the proportion of misunderstood problems is 48.18% at the largest proportion, and the proportion of computational errors is next, accounting for 36.36%. The proportion of procedural errors is the least, accounting for 15.45%. As we all know, there are many reasons for the above mistakes., so teachers can find some solutions to overcome these mistakes.

This research aims to develop a Pictorial-based Two-Tier Multiple Choice Misconception Diagnostic Test on Buffer Solutions. This research uses the Development and Validation method. The development steps in this method consist of test development (design); validity and reliability test; development of determination key; use of tests, and analysis of results. Based on the content validity test using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) method, there are 24 items meet the content validity criteria. Based on the reliability test obtained Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.827 which indicates that the developed test is included in the acceptable category. It can identify high school students' misconceptions about the buffer solutions because the presence of pictures can help students understand the problems about the buffer solutions, and can provide an overview of their mental representations so that misconceptions are revealed more deeply.
