In the 1994 season of the excavations in Ramla, archaeologist Don Glick, digging on behalf of Israel Antiquities Authority, exposed in a field on the eastern part of the city, some 600 m. to the south east of Birkat al-ՙAnaziyya, a complex of water installations consisting of two small basins or troughs (one 1.00 × 1.50 m. and the other 0.50 × 0.62 m.), and water canals and pipes. One of the canals was covered with a slab of marble, with an Arabic inscription, in a secondary usage. In the course of fitting the stone to its new purpose, it was cut and a few lines from the top and bottom of the inscription were lost. From the contents of the inscription, as we shall soon see, it can be learnt that the field and the water installations continued to be in use, long after the inscription ceased to serve its purpose, for it was utilized in the repairs of the water installations in the field at some later date.

Abstract Twisted Darrieus water turbine is receiving growing attentiveness for small-scale hydropower generation. Accordingly, the need for raised water energy conversion incentivizes researchers to focalise on the blade shape optimization of twisted Darrieus turbine. In view of this, an experimental analysis has been performed to appraise the efficiency of a spiral Darrieus water rotor in the present work. To better the performance parameters of the studied water rotor with twisted blades, three novel blade shapes, namely U-shaped blade, V-shaped blade and W-shaped blade, have been numerically tested using a computational fluid dynamics three-dimensional numerical model. Maximum power coefficient of Darrieus rotor reaches 0.17 at 0.63 tip-speed ratio using twisted blades. Using V-shaped blades, maximum power coefficient has been risen up to 0.185. The current study could be practically applied to provide more effective employment of twisted Darrieus turbines and to improve the generated power from flowing water such as river streams, tidal currents, or other man made water canals.

The waterlogged terrace wet rice-fields of Apatani Plateau located at an altitude of 1500msl in Arunachal Pradesh of the north eastern India are stocked with fish Common carp (Cyprinus carpio L) for several decades. The fishes are not fed with supplementary feeds because of the rich organic nature of the rice-fields. The study on water and soil of these fields revealed a strong co-relation to such organic nature. The wet rice-fish integrated fields exhibited the characters of shallow wet ecosystems. The water canals traversed through the rice fields were found inundated with water up to 50m showing the nature of Deep Water Rice fields (DWR) at least for one month. Significant (p<0.001) variations of water were observed for dissolved oxygen (DO) and carbon dioxide (CO2) to diurnal and seasonal changes. Alkalinity of the fields intends to play a role towards its productivity which is otherwise played by DO in other aquatic systems. Soil nitrogen reflected a gradual increasing trend of organic nature. Role of periphyton may not be ignored to the high phosphorus level of the soil at later flood phases in these fields. Background and aim: Improving the eating habits of children is essential to reduce the future burden of non-communicable illnesses. Nutritional diseases affect higher than 30% of school age children. This study aimed to assess the dietary habits and nutritional knowledge among primary school age children in Fayoum Governorate, Egypt.Study design: A cross-sectional descriptive design was utilized. Setting: The study was implemented in three governmental mixed primary schools in EL-Fayoum city; Egypt, that were selected randomly. Sample: Cluster random sample techniques used for selecting of the study group consisted of 300 students aged from 10-12 years for both sexes attending grade five and six. Tools: three tools of data collection consisted of: 1- self-administered questionnaire comprised socio-demographic data of the students and parents, and students’ knowledge about nutrition, 2- the students’ dietary habits as consumption of the breakfast, drinking water, 3- Health assessment sheet to assess the students’ nutritional status including weight, height, BMI, and appearance.The study findings revealed that 69.3% of the study group were underweight, 36.3% were stunted, and 6.7%, 3.3% were overweight and obese respectively. About 45% had fair knowledge while 34% had good knowledge about the nutrition. More than half of the students had unhealthy dietary behavior and appearance. There was a statistically significant difference (P: 0<0.00) between the academic performance of the school children and their HAZ while there was no statistically significant difference between the academic performance of the students and their WAZ (P: 0.264).Conclusions: underweight is highly prevalent among the primary school students followed by stunting. Most of the students had unhealthy dietary habits and unhealthy appearance while around half of them had fair knowledge about nutrition. The current study recommended developing a nutritional health program for primary school children about the proper nutrition.
