Background: Oral squamous papilloma is the most common lesion caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). They are benign proliferation, often painless, and with cauliflower or verrucous appearance. Objective: The aim of this report is to describe a clinical case of oral squamous papilloma and its treatment with a high-intensity diode laser. Case Presentation: A 65-year-old female patient sought care at the Special Laboratory of Lasers in Dentistry (LELO), University of São Paulo, Brazil, complaining of growth of a soft tissue mass in the jugal mucosa. Based on these clinical characteristics and history, Papilloma was the initial clinical diagnosis of the lesion. Although the lesion was small in size, measuring approximately 0.5 cm, the diagnostic method used was biopsy, and for treatment, a high-intensity diode laser at a wavelength of 980 nm was used. Conclusion: It can be concluded that Laser Therapy can be used by dental clinicians to treat these kinds of oral lesions and should be considered as an effective alternative to conventional surgery.

Abstract Background Chondrosarcoma (CS) most commonly involves the pelvis. This study aimed to analyze differences in clinical characteristics and prognostic factors between primary and secondary conventional pelvic CS, and provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Methods Eighty patients (54 primary cases and 26 secondary cases) with pelvic CS were included in this retrospective study. The tumor site, Enneking stage, soft tissue mass, margin, initial tumor grade, incidence of local recurrence and distant metastasis were evaluated. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the overall survival rate. X2 test and log-rank test were used for univariate analysis, and Cox test was used in multivariate analysis. Results The average age of patients with secondary CS was significantly younger than that of patients with primary CS (P < 0.001). The soft tissue mass of patients with secondary CS was significantly larger than that of patients with primary CS (P = 0.002). There was a significant difference in initial tumor pathologic grade between the two groups (P = 0.002). No statistically significant difference was observed in the local recurrence rate between the two groups. The median recurrence time of patients with primary CS after the first treatment was significantly shorter than that of patients with secondary CS (P < 0.001). The overall survival rate of patients with secondary CS was much higher than that of patients with primary CS (P = 0.003). Cox regression analysis showed that the initial tumor grade was an independent factor in the overall survival rate of patients with CS. Conclusion There were significant differences in age, soft tissue mass, initial tumor grade, and overall survival rate between the two groups. The overall survival rate of pelvic CS was related to the initial tumor grade of CS.

Abstract Background Nodular fasciitis (NF) is a rare non-neoplastic inflammatory tumor and usually presents as a painless, rapidly growing subcutaneous soft tissue mass. The head and neck are relatively common locations for nodular fasciitis, particularly in children. NF in the trachea is rare and may evolve to a fatal condition, especially due to its rapidly growing nature that can cause life-threatening tracheal obstruction. Case presentation We report the case of a 5-year-old child with NF in the trachea and subtotal tracheal obstruction. Bronchoscopy and biopsy proved the diagnosis, and bronchoscopic excision of the tumor was performed. Conclusions NF is a rare airway tumor, occurring mostly in adults, and may presenting with pneumonia-like symptoms. Early detection of the lesion is essential to avoid life-threatening airway obstruction.

Small blue round cell tumors of childhood rarely present in the foot or ankle. The following is a case presentation of an 18-year-old male with a large soft-tissue mass of the foot with associated lung metastasis. A definitive diagnosis could not be fully made, even with immunohistochemical and genetic testing. Diagnosis favored poorly differentiated synovial sarcoma. Lipoblastomas and liposarcomas are rare causes of soft tissue masses in paediatric patients. In this retrospective clinical case series we identified 11 patients from our paediatric database (10 with a lipoblastoma and one with a liposarcoma) who had attended our hospital between 1998 and 2019. The median age of patients with lipoblastoma was 29 months. All lipoblastoma cases were managed with surgical excision and histological examination. The 18-year old patient with liposarcoma presented with a metastatic and unresectable tumour that was unresponsive to chemotherapy and radiation. Our experience demonstrates the importance of differentiating the type of soft tissue mass in children.

Pleomorphic hyalinizing angiectatic tumor (PHAT) is a very rare entity of soft tissue considered a “neoplasm of uncertain behaviour of connective or other soft tissue” by the World Health Organization (2020). It develops in subcutaneous tissue of the lower extremities, more frequently in the region of the ankle and foot, and rarely as a deep-seated soft tissue mass in locations such as the perineum, buttock, arms, head and neck, and viscera. Although inconsistent cytogenetic data have been reported on PHAT so far, there are potential morphological and genetic overlaps with hemosiderotic fibrolipomatous tumor (HFLT) and myxoinflammatory fibroblastic sarcoma (MIFS). Here we report a case of PHAT at the level of the upper third of the right thigh in a 48-year-old patient and we also focus on the differential diagnoses of these entities and conduct a literature review of reported cases.

Introduction. Schwannomas are quiet rare in the retroperitoneal region. Here, we describe an incidentally detected retroperitoneal schwannoma in the abdominal computerized tomography (CT) of a patient with acute appendicitis.Case Presentation. A 38-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency service with the complaints of progressive abdominal pain and nausea for the last 24 hours. Abdominal examination was compatible with acute abdomen. Acute appendicitis was diagnosed by CT. During CT evaluation, a round shaped soft-tissue mass at the retroperitoneal area inferior to the right kidney was detected, The mass was resected and histology revealed schwannoma.Conclusion. Rare tumoral lesions with benign course such as schwannoma can be detected incidentally.

Introduction: Schwannoma is a benign, encapsulated, tumor that arises from Schwann cells of myelinated nerves. In this report, we present a case of schwannoma in a hemophilic patient and its surgical considerations related to bleeding complications. Case Presentation: We present a case of a 27-year-old male coming to our center with a chief complaint of a painless, non-progressive growing mass on the back of his head since a year prior to admission. Physical examination showed that the mass was mobile, firm, and had a welldefined margin beneath the scalp. His radiograph showed a soft tissue mass beneath the scalp. MRI demonstrated a dense-multilobulated mass without intracranial infiltration. The patient had hemophilia A from the age of 5. We performed marginal excision of the mass with regiments of factor VIII (FVIII) concentrates preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. Pathology was consistent with schwannoma.Conclusions: Schwannoma management in hemophilic patients needs several considerations. Perioperative planning plays a major part in the management of patients with tumors and hemophilia to prevent bleeding complications.

Background Sarcopenia is the age-related loss of skeletal muscle mass and function and may exist in early middle age. Previous research in this area has focused on resistance training in older individuals; however, there is a lack of intervention trials in middle-aged adults with low relative appendicular lean soft tissue mass who may be at risk for sarcopenia in older age. Objective This randomized controlled trial aims to determine the effects of a high-intensity interval aerobic resistance training intervention on appendicular lean soft tissue mass in middle-aged adults with low relative appendicular lean soft tissue mass. Methods We will conduct a 40-week, single-blinded randomized controlled trial in 84 middle-aged adults with low appendicular lean soft tissue mass in the wider Dunedin area, New Zealand. We will randomly allocate participants to receive either a group-based, 20-week high-intensity interval aerobic resistance training intervention program or a single, 60-minute education session on current exercise recommendations. After the first 20 weeks, both groups will be given a 20-week home program. The study will assess primary and secondary outcome measures, including body composition (regional and whole-body lean soft tissue mass, fat mass, percentage body fat, measured by dual x-ray absorptiometry), blood biomarkers (cortisol, creatinine, C-reactive protein, lipid profile, hemoglobin), physical fitness (maximum oxygen consumption, blood pressure), physical activity (accelerometry), physical function (handgrip strength, sit-to-stand, gait speed, quadriceps strength), and self-reported questionnaires (health outcomes, self-efficacy, perceived enjoyment of physical activity, and multifactorial lifestyle), at baseline, 20 weeks, and 40 weeks. Physical function and self-reported questionnaires will also be measured at 10 weeks. We will assess the primary outcome measure, total body lean soft tissue mass, at baseline, 20 weeks, and 40 weeks. Analyses will be performed using intention-to-treat principles, comparing the outcomes resulting from the intervention, using linear mixed models. Results We obtained ethical approval for this study from The University of Otago Human Ethics Committee on December 10, 2018. Participant recruitment started on February 11, 2019 and was completed on May 14, 2019. Data collection started on February 25, 2019 and was completed on February 28, 2020. We expect to publish the results in January 2021. Conclusions High-intensity interval aerobic resistance training is a time-efficient form of exercise, enabling busy middle-aged adults to meet physical activity recommendations while maximizing training results. The findings can inform the development of future prevention-focused interventions aimed at counteracting the high prevalence of sarcopenia in the aging population.
