Pensando no papel da fotografia na construção e reforço de múltiplos discursos, este artigo busca expandir a análise de Walter Benjamin em Pequena história da fotografia sobre a foto de atelier do escritor Franz Kafka. A consideração sobre o olhar triste e desolado de Kafka contrastando com o cenário planejado, para proporcionar uma imagem de aura luxuosa e enfeitada, trouxe um questionamento ampliado que este artigo busca responder: analisando pessoas que escreveram sobre si mesmas, quais são os pontos de contato e de divergência entre autorrepresentação por meio da escrita e pelo olhar dos outros por meio da câmera e das fotografias? Por ser de caráter ainda obscuro, o foco da investigação são autoras de diferentes épocas com estilos distintos entre si: Anne Frank e suas fotografias familiares, Sylvia Plath e o estabelecimento de um ideal feminino por meio das aparências e, por fim, a artista punk Patti Smith e os Estados Unidos como cenário mutável e de “refugo”. Para discorrer sobre os relatos dessas mulheres sobre si mesmas e suas imagens estabelecidas na história, este artigo recorre aos ensaios de Susan Sontag, relacionando fotografia, contexto histórico e literatura.

Eine neue Perspektive innerhalb der deutsch-jüdischen Literatur. Galili Shahar diskutiert die Frage der Tradition in den Schriften von Walter Benjamin, Franz Rosenzweig und Franz Kafka und beschäftigt sich dabei mit Themen wie Sabbatianismus, Messianismus, Engelslehren und liturgische Dichtung. Der Autor bietet eine neue Perspektive innerhalb der deutsch-jüdischen Literatur an, die jedoch auf die Dialektik der jüdischen Tradition nicht verzichtet. Konkret bedeutet das, den paradoxalen Aspekt im jüdischen Schreiben anzuerkennen und zugleich die dialektische Form zu bekräftigen - ihre List und ihre verschiedenen Formen der Offenbarung und der Verborgenheit zu erlernen. Im Vordergrund stehen Benjamins Text über den Stern der Melancholie, Rosenzweigs Auseinandersetzungen über die Übersetzung hebräischer Dichtung und Kafkas Schreiben über Narrenspiele. Deutlich werden Spannungen, ambivalente Loyalitäten, Irrwege sowie das Schauspiel im Bereich der Tradition.

Este trabalho procura refletir sobre se é possível pensar sobre a realidade do mundo, procurar compreender a realidade, por meio da fotografia. Para tanto, parte das proposições levantadas por Susan Sontag sobre o assunto. Na sequência, faz uma revisão teórica das proposições de Sontag à luz das reflexões trazidas por Jacques Rancière sobre imagem, operações de arte e montagem; Walter Benjamin sobre o ato de narrar; Gerry Badger e László Moholy-Nagy sobre narrar como fotos; e Gilles Deleuze sobre o pensamento como experiência.  Por último, procuramos analisar, com base nas reflexões trazidas pelos autores mencionados, como as operações artísticas da instalação Truth Study Center de Wolfgang Tillmans, contribuem para refletirmos sobre a experiência de pensar a realidade do mundo a partir de fotografias.

O presente artigo reflete sobre a declaração de Walter Benjamin de que a obra de Kafka representa uma doença da tradição. Apoia-se, em particular, na bem conhecida carta que contém essa declaração, escrita ao amigo Gershom Scholem em 12 de junho de 1938, bem como no seu ensaio Franz Kafka (1934). Encerramos com Um artista da fome (1922) de Kafka como proposta de possível analogia.

This essay concerns itself with perceptions of the urban sphere, with its manifestations in literature and life writing, and with the city as a place of strangeness and travel in various senses, including the ways in which it pertains to the individual world view. Cities are places of density and internal connections, but their gates also open out and connect with other places, and increasingly other cities. Following a discussion of the Icelandic links between Copenhagen and Reykjavík, and the slow emergence of the latter as a „literary capital“, the course is set for foreign cities, including Berlin and Paris in the company of Walter Benjamin, and the experience of getting lost with Franz Kafka in places that may be Prague and New York. In attempting to answer the question whether it is possible to become intimate with cities, we have recourse to city guides, life maps, a touring theatre – and the art of losing and finding.

Wem gehören Niemandsländer? Bei der Debatte um individuelles, gemeinschaftliches oder staatliches Eigentum an Grund und Boden konkurrieren seit der Antike theologische, philosophische, juristische und soziologische Argumente. Auch in der Literatur sind Niemandsländer ein Modell, Machtverhältnisse, Legitimation von Besitz, Autonomie und Zugehörigkeit zu reflektieren. Niemandsländer sind Räume begrenzter Staatlichkeit und damit nur schwach oder gar nicht reguliert. Sie gelten den einen als gefährliche Landstriche, den anderen als Gebiete, die man ungestraft erobern darf. Verlassene Gegenden, Stadtbrachen, verwilderte Gärten und aufgelassene Industriegelände werden als Niemandsland bezeichnet und damit zu faszinierenden Orten. Sie bergen ein Risiko, wecken aber auch Neugierde und Kreativität, ziehen Flaneure, spielende Kinder, Verliebte, Dealer, Diebe, Künstler und Phantasten an und erlauben probeweise das Aussetzen der Regeln des Alltags. Im ersten Teil ihres neuen Buches steckt Dorothee Kimmich das kulturtheoretische Feld ab, in dem über Eigentumstheorien, Kolonialgeschichte, Pufferzonen, Bannmeilen, Kontaktzonen und Freiräume verhandelt wird. In einem zweiten Teil zeigen die Analysen literarischer Texte – u. a. von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Adalbert Stifter, Robert Musil, Franz Kafka, Walter Benjamin, Oskar Loerke, Michel Leiris und Chinua Achebe –, wie Erzählungen die komplexen Verhältnisse um Grund und Boden in Narrative von Heimat und Auswanderung, Zugehörigkeit und Fremde, Imagination und Spiel, Grenzübertritt und Gefangenschaft übersetzen. Sie gestalten den prekären Status, den oft widersprüchlichen Charakter, die diffusen Eigenschaften und widerstrebenden Gefühle, die zum Niemandsland gehören.

French philosopher, writer, artist and translator Pierre Klossowski was born in Paris and raised in Switzerland, Germany and France. His education was influenced by Rainer Maria Rilke (1875–1926) and André Gide (1869–1951). A friend of Georges Bataille (1897–1962), Walter Benjamin (1892–1940) and Pierre-Jean Jouve (1887–1976), Klossowski produced French translations of works by Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900), Franz Kafka (1883–1924), Martin Heidegger (1889–1976) and Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951) from German, and of the works of Suetonius, Virgil, Augustine and Tertullian from Latin.

Esse ensaio procurará aproximar o pensamento de Gilles Deleuze e Walter Benjamin, autores comumente articulados em distintas correntes filosóficas. Para tanto, procuraremos pensar o modo como Deleuze apresenta uma crença imanente nesse mundo, plataforma de pensamento para uma outra tradição crítica – iniciada com Espinosa e continuada por Friedrich Nietzsche, Franz Kafka, Antonin Artaud e outros. Acreditando ser possível inserir Benjamin nessa outra tradição crítica, buscaremos apresentar algumas discussões benjaminianas acerca da revolução messiânica, um modo de revolução preocupado em produzir uma ideia de felicidade terrena. Ambas as discussões, defendemos, partilhariam de uma mesma aposta, uma aposta nas potências criadoras inatas aos homens, passíveis apenas de serem recuperadas quando abdicamos de qualquer perspectiva transcendente e adotamos uma perspectiva de pensamento dita imanente.
