In this work, the mass and linear thicknesses of AlN and CrN coatings deposited onto silicon substrates by magnetron sputtering were measured, respectively, by a combination of the methods of nondestructive radioactivation analysis on proton beams of the U-120M cyclotron and optical micro-interferometry. It is shown that, at linear thicknesses in the range of 2.2-5.7 μm, the coating density is close to the values for bulk materials AlN (3.26 g / cm3) and CrN (5.9 g / cm3), and the stoichiometry of nitrides is controlled by the parameters of magnetron deposition. The technique can also be used to determine the density of wear-resistant coatings from carbides and metal oxides.

Series of TiCrN wear resistant coatings have been known to be superior to other coatings in protecting tools which may be damaged corrosion, oxidization, abrasion and hardness of mold materials. The corrosion and oxidation resistance of TiN/CrN(TiCrN) multilayer coatings is better than that of single TiN and CrN coatings. TiCrN coated layer was formed by coating a layer of TixCr1-xN by non-stoichiometry. In this study, TiCrN coated layer by R.F magnetron sputtering was executed heat treatment each other temperature by tube furnace. And then surfaces of coated layer and cross sections were observed by FE-SEM and XRD. Corrosion resistance tester measured characterizations of coated layers. When the temperature increased, TiN was partially transformed to Ti2N and TiNX, and CrN was also transformed to Cr2N. The formation of non-stoichiometric phases decreased corrosion resistance.

This study presented the desirability function based on Taguchi designed experiments to solve multiple responses statistical optimal problems for the tungsten carbide/cobalt (WC-Co) coatings of high-velocity-oxygen-fuel (HVOF) processes. The eight control factors based on L18 arrays were conducted and the multi-responses of wear-resistant coatings such as hardness, deposited thickness and wear rate were evaluated simultaneously in the desirability-based experiments. Based on desirability analysis, the optimal settings have been identified, and the impacts of control factors are determined by analysis of variance on the multi-responses. Further, a confirmation run was conducted to validate the tests. Experimental results have shown that the hardness increased by 16.61% and the deposited thickness improved by 10.50%, while the wear rate decreased by 34.03%. It was clear that confirmation tests are greatly improved by way of the desirability-based multi-responses on HVOF WC-Co experiments, and these findings achieved the desired values on wear-resistant coatings. The proposed procedure was applied at HVOF sprayed WC-Co experiments, and the implementation results demonstrated its feasibility and effectiveness to maximize hardness, make a target of deposited thickness value and minimize wear rate by a HVOF.
