Typical Activities of Health Educators in Public and Private Settings in California

Some typical activities of health educators employed in public and private settings in California are reported. These reports are based upon interviews with a number of directors of health education programs and the chairpersons of two university programs. Typical activities include the generalist role of rural health educators, the emphasis of urban health educators on health promotion programs, patient education as a major activity of health educators in medical care settings, and the continued commitment of health educators in occupational settings to community health education. The diversity of activities in which health educators in California are engaged suggests the outlook for the eighties is for many arenas for the practice of health education.

Abstract Health-related attitudes can be modified and supported most effectively at young ages. Young generations require more interpersonal and interactive pedagogical methods in programs engaged in health promotion, as well. The aim of the authors was to get an insight into a relatively novel pedagogical method, called peer education. This multilateral activity is focusing the procedure on attitudes, experience, and motivation of youngsters in connection with health promotion programs and community service work. In this article, the authors describe 1) the theory, origin, and principal influences of peer education compared to traditional teaching methods and 2) the new, efficiency-oriented and science-based methodology of health education program.

Research aims to investigate the implementation of health education programs to improve community health status Penglipuran Bangli regency. This research is descriptive qualitative research in the form of program evaluation with a design evaluation model programs stake, s. Non probability sampling with purposive sampling. with a sample of 12 informants, health education receiver 5 and 70 filler questionnaires. The data collected by in-depth interviews, documentation, observation and angket. Data analyzed with logical, empirical, and consideration of the suitability of the results. The study concluded there Relevance sufficient to describe the consistency of goals, policies, and services, to meet the needs of the community health education, Still efektip level of achievement of targets, and standard operating procedures were implemented in health education programs, is quite efficient in seeing a comparison between the output with input, Impact positively influence the implementation of health education on health behaviors.

<p><b>Abstract </b></p><p>This study explores the role of the ubiquitous postage stamp as a messenger of health promotion and education. It examines the way that postal material has been modified to act as a medium for health education, with images and texts appropriate to the specific health problems. The methodology used included a search for all postage stamps listed in established catalogues that fitted the described criterion. Selection for further study was drawn from those stamps that covered the topics of infection, immunisation, tobacco cessation, growth and nutrition. </p><p>It was clearly recognised that by simply presenting information on a stamp, would not necessarily bring about the desired behavioural change. Thus, the currently accepted health promotion models were examined to find an appropriate explanation for/ and a rationale to explain the use of postage stamp in health promotion and education. The strategy called “media advocacy” was the nearest best fit for the bulk of postage stamps carrying health information. This finding could explain why stamps have been perceived, over many years, as being a useful and successful element in health promotion and education by their frequent and continued use over a period of some fifty years. </p><p>Postage stamps are frequently used worldwide and have a clear role in carrying health information and thus play a small, but important and unique, role in the field of health promotion. </p>

This article describes two models for thinking about the purposes of health education—a medical model and an educationmodel—andtraces how concerns about the validity of research have driven preferencefor the medical model. In the medical model, the purpose of health education is to develop effective interventions that will prevent people from adopting unhealthy behaviors. Here, health educators are expected to replicate the methods identified by researchers to effect targeted changes in health behavior. The article then describes an alternative way of thinking about the purposes of health education. In pursuing a philosophy of education, the purpose of research and practice would be to clarify basic social values and to strengthen one's faculty for making value judgments. Practitioners here use research results as a stimulus for dialogue about the role of good health habits in living the kind of life that community members find most valuable.

African urban populations are growing at a fast rate. The resulting health problems pose a challenge to health education. A community development, self-help approach is recommended. Experiences of health educators-in-training in Ibadan, Nigeria, show this approach to be relevant if practitioners are able to creatively deal with certain community variables—community identity, internal integration, group orientation, external linkage and resource characteristics. At times students express concern about the relevance of this approach to the African setting. Their failures in applying the approach can be traced back to the western bias in teaching materials and the general educational system. The challenge to health educators is to provide training experiences with a cultural sensitivity which encourages students to work with the community as they find it and not how it should be according to a foreign textbook.
