Environment is a global concept today. Environmental education is a process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, engage in problem solving, and take action to improve the environment. As a result, individuals develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions. Environmental Education is an approach to learning. Environmental education refers to organized efforts to teach how natural environments function, and particularly, how human beings can manage behavior and ecosystems to live sustainably. It is a multi-disciplinary field integrating disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, ecology, earth science, atmospheric science, mathematics, and geography. Today our environment is being destructed due to various factors. One of the major causes of environmental destruction is human activities. Man with his great skill and adaptive power has brought lot of changes. It is time to realize that our Earth has limited resources. Educators and environment specialists are stressing that solution to the environment crises will require environmental awareness and understanding. Environmental awareness means to help social groups and individuals to acquire an awareness and sensitivity to the total environment and its allied problems. The importance of environmental awareness cannot be overemphasized. We must understand that to improve the environment is to improve the quality of life. Environmental education programs need to be planned nationally as there is difference in the environmental priorities. Fast growing populations, high .intensity agriculture, human settlements and slum improvement, introduction of modern transport systems, increasing demands for energy and industrialization are the environmental priorities for developing countries whereas over exploitation of resources, industrial pollution and waste disposal are the main environmental priorities for developed countries. The present paper discusses about achievement in Environmental Education in relation to Mental Health, Environmental Awareness and streams at students of under graduation level

Since its evolution environment has remained both a matter of awe and concern to man. The frontier attitude of the industrialized society towards nature has not only endangered the survival of all other life forms but also threatened the very existence of human life. The realization of such potential danger has necessitated the dissemination of knowledge and skill vis-a-vis environment protection at all stages of learning. Therefore, learners of all stages of learning need to be sensitized with a missionary zeal. This may ensure transformation of students into committed citizens for averting global environment crisis. The advancement of science and technology made the life more and more relaxed and man also became more and more ambitious. With such development, human dependence on environment increased. He consumed more resources and the effect of his activities on the environment became more and more detectable. Environment covers all the things present around the living beings and above the land, on the surface of the earth and under the earth. Environment indicates, in total, all of peripheral forces, pressures and circumstances, which affect the life, nature, behaviour, growth, development and maturation of living beings. Irrational exploitation (not utilization) of natural resources for our greed (not need) has endangered our survival, and incurred incalculable harm. Environmental Education is a science, a well-thought, permanent, lasting and integrated process of equipping learning experiences for getting awareness, knowledge, understanding, skills, values, technical expertise and involvement of learners with desirable attitudinal changes about their relationship with their natural and biophysical environment. Environmental Education is an organized effort to educate the masses about environment, its functions, need, importance, and especially how human beings can manage their behaviour in order to live in a sustainable manner.  The term 'environmental awareness' refers to creating general awareness of environmental issues, their causes by bringing about changes in perception, attitude, values and necessary skills to solve environment related problems. Moreover, it is the first step leading to the formation of responsible environmental behaviour (Stern, 2000). With the ever increasing development by modern man, large scale degradation of natural resources have been occurred, the public has to be educated about the fact that if we are degrading our environment we are actually harming ourselves. To encourage meaningful public participation and environment, it is necessary to create awareness about environment pollution and related adverse effects. This is the crucial time that environmental awareness and environmental sensitivity should be cultivated among the masses particularly among youths. For the awareness of society it is essential to work at a gross root level. So the whole society can work to save the environment.

<p>The period of environmentalism heightened environmental concern and subsequently the emergence of Environmental Education that is anchored on awareness. It is thought that increase in environmental awareness will reverse the misuse of the environment and its resources. Four decades after the international call for Environmental Education, Earth’s degradation is far from abating as it’s pristinity is consistently and irreversibly being eroded by no less than from anthropocentric activities. Humans have seen themselves as the dominant species that is apart and not part of the organisms that constitute the environment. The philosophical value free nature concepts and the theological assumption that human are the ultimate species together with the rise of capitalism and its surrogates consumerism together conspire to diminuate environmental health. To protect the environment therefore, we must refocus EE to change human’s view of the environment and attitude towards the utilization of its resources. Environmental education can become more effective in creating respect for the environment. This paper examined the failure of efforts at addressing environmental issues via environmental education. The paper posits that environmental problems are on the increase due to lack of deliberate responsibility and stewardship, lack of a unique EE curricula and ineffective pedagogy. We suggest therefore that EE can target human perception and attitude and direct then towards biocentric stewardship for the environment. This can be achieved through a deliberate pedagogy of environmental values that promotes sustainable attitude and respect for the environment. Humans must bear the burden of responsibility to ensure the wellbeing of the environment. We must replace the philosophical value free nature concepts that nature is a common commodity and the theological assumption that humans are the ultimate species. We must also rethink our consumerism nature and the endless faith in the efficacy of technology to solve reoccurrence human induced ecological problems. These issues must be embedded in the school curriculum. Pedagogical approach to EE should essentially be the experiential model. The school curriculum must be the carrier and doer of these values that are crucial to the sustainability of the environment. Environmental ethics, environmental code of conduct, environmental nationalism, nature as manifestation of God, ascetic consumerism are recommended as key component of environmental curricula and pedagogy.<strong> </strong></p>

The Christian Foundation for Children and Aging (CFCA) is an organization that responds to environmental awareness and education through an environmental recollection. Environmental recollection was conducted among twenty student respondents who are scholars of CFCA. Using a researcher-developed questionnaire, data on the level of knowledge on four environmental issues: global warming, climate change, waste management and resource preservation and the action plans were gathered. Results show that the student respondents are well informed of the environmental issues prior to the environmental recollection but a significant increase in the level of knowledge was found after the environmental recollection. The students strongly agree on the plan to preserve the resources and the proper waste management procedures. All the students get information on environmental issues from their teachers, while majority also obtain them from media and seminars. Other information was obtained from home through their parents, classmates, and pamphlets. There is significant association between prior level of knowledge in waste management, prior level of knowledge in resource preservation and the post level of knowledge in all environmental issues and number of sources from which they get the information. Environmental recollection is a good tool in awakening the students in the current environmental situation.   Keywords - environmental recollection, environmental education, environmental sensitivity, environmental awareness, responsible behaviour, preservation

This article is part of the results of a research project whose objective was to formulate a strategy for environmental awareness for children and adolescents of the Fundación Niños de Los Andes (Children of the Andes Foundation) in the city of Manizales, Colombia. The methodological process was a quantitative and descriptive approach, using the survey as a tool for information gathering and the SPSS tool for systematization. A later discussion of the results was performed, and it determined the best way to approach the environmental education in children. The main conclusion was that the best strategy for acceptance of environmental education in children is to develop practical workshops that enable them to know, through real cases, environmental issues and ways of approach to prevent these issues, mitigate them, and control them.

Artists have used the environment as a subject forever and there is a long history of artists whose works affect peoples’ awareness of and perceptions of their natural environments. But only relatively recently have other artists become part of the modern environmental movement and of efforts to educate college students and the population at large about environmental issues. Environmental studies programs need to take advantage of this increased interest on the part of artists, and global warming provides a perfect vehicle.

Environmental issues have become a very dangerous to human beings. Human dependence on environmental elements forces humans to adapt into a very limited environmental system. The best way to maintain good relations with the environment is through conservation and preservation of the environment so that it is always sustainable. This starts from the starting point which is education. Various efforts implemented environmental education into the school curriculum system but the environmental problems among school students are still at an unsatisfactory level. Therefore, this study was conducted to identified the level of awareness and practice of environmental education as well as to measure the relationship between awareness and practice of environmental education among secondary school students in Kota Kinabalu. This study uses a questionnaire distributed in ten selected schools with a total of 500 respondents and data analysis was done by descriptive analysis. The results of this study found that there is no significant relationship between environmental awareness and practices on environmental culture among secondary school students in the district of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

In this study, Word Association Test (WAT) was administered to 123 people in order to determine the perceptions of pre-service science teachers regarding environmental problems. “Environmental Problems” was given as a key word to the pre-service teachers, and they were asked to write what came to their minds on WAT and make one sentence about this concept. The responses concerning the key word were examined under six themes: “causes”, “effects”, “types”, “measures”, “worry/pessimism”, and “other”. The pre-service teachers were seen to have stronger cognitive structures about the causes of environmental problems in comparison to other themes. Most participants confused the concepts of environmental problem and environmental pollution. They mostly focused on the effects of environmental problems on human beings and had worry and pessimism. Emphases laid by the pre-service teachers on environmental awareness, consciousness, and love in regard to the measures that can be taken against environmental problems demonstrate that they think education is important for the solution of environmental problems. The research results reveal that perceptions regarding environmental problems are not adequate among the pre-service science teachers. This lack of perception among the pre-service science teachers, who are to play an important part in raising environmental awareness, can be eliminated only through an effective environmental education. Keywords: Perception of Environmental Problems, Environmental Education, Science, Word Association, Pre-Service Teachers

Inhabitants of Planet Earth are experiencing environmental tensions brought about by the different problems plaguing the environment prompting the researcher to conduct a study on navigating environmental education practices in promoting environmental awareness and education. To answer this problem, the researcher employed a quantitative-qualitative method of research using the modified survey questionnaire from Eriko Arai and Shauna Sprules and the developed interview guide for the selected participants. Findings show that the majority is integrating environmental education, and it is evident in sciences, social studies, and values education. Integration, in this regard, was done weekly. On the other hand, activities that helped students learn about sound environment practices were lecturing, hands-on outdoor learning, and field trips that encourage the planting of trees, recycling, greening schoolyards, etc. Findings also reflected that the majority of the teachers did not discuss the different perspectives of environmental issues. When they discussed, they did not encourage students to form their views and ideas on different environmental issues. However, teachers were all eager to integrate environmental education despite barriers such as curriculum materials and teachers' competencies. Along this line, the study suggests for the development of instructional materials and training for teachers in the teaching and integration of environmental education in the different subject areas.

ABSTRACT Environmental Education, which became Law in Brazil in 1999, seeks to reflect and raise awareness about social and environmental issues to transform students into "environmental citizens". Studies show that the level of environmental awareness of each individual is directly related to the degree of environmental perception and that this, directly reflects on the environmental behavior of the individual. For this reason, the present study aimed to evaluate the construction of the environmental perception of Brazilian university students. The research was carried out in 5 Brazilian universities with a total of 553 respondents, being three public universities and two private universities. For data analysis, the modeling of structural equations using the software SmartPLS 2.0 M3 was used. The result indicates that the environmental perception of the university has a focus on recycling, water and energy saving and reduction of consumption, apart from these issues, the constructs that formed the perception of the environment, were not effective for the formation of environmental awareness.   KEYWORDS: Environmental Education, Environmental Perception, Higher Education, Sustainability.     RESUMEN La Educación Ambiental, que se convirtió en Ley en Brasil en 1999, busca por medio de la reflexión y concientización sobre las cuestiones socioambientales transformar a los estudiantes en "ciudadanos ambientales".
