BACKGROUND Smart technology use in rehabilitation is growing and can be used remotely to assist clients in self-monitoring their performance. With written home exercise programs being the commonly prescribed form of rehabilitation after discharge, mHealth technology coupled with task-oriented programs can enhance self-management of upper extremity training. In the current study, a functional rehabilitation system, namely mRehab, was designed which included a smartphone app and 3D printed household items such as mug, bowl, key, and doorknob embedded with a smartphone The app's user interface allowed the participant to select rehabilitation activities and receive feedback on the number of activity repetitions completed, time to complete each activity and quality of movement. OBJECTIVE To assess the usability, perceived usefulness, and acceptance of the mRehab system by individuals with stroke and identify the challenges experienced by them when using the system remotely in a home-based setting. METHODS A mixed-methods approach was used with 11 individuals with chronic stroke. Following training, individuals with stroke used the mRehab system for six weeks at home. Each participant completed surveys and engaged in a semi-structured interview. Participants’ qualitative reports regarding the usability of mRehab were integrated with their survey reports and quantitative performance data. RESULTS Ten of the eleven participants rated the mRehab system between 67.5 to 97.5 percentile on the System Usability Scale, indicating their satisfaction with the usability of the system. Participants also provided high ratings of perceived usefulness (median=6), and perceived ease of use (median=5.75), on a 7-point scale based on the Technology Acceptance Model. Common themes reported by participants showed a positive response to mRehab with some suggestions for improvements. Participants reported an interest in activities they perceived to be of ‘just right challenge’. Some participants indicated a need for customizing the feedback to be more interpretable. Overall, most participants indicated that they would like to continue using the mRehab system at home. CONCLUSIONS Assessing usability in the lived environment over a prolonged duration of time is essential to identify match between the system and users’ needs and preferences. While mRehab was well accepted, further customization is desired for a better fit with the end users. CLINICALTRIAL NCT04363944

Increasing consensus among information systems researchers suggests that personality accounts for the effective use of several technologies, yet less is known about the process through which personality affects user perceptions of technology acceptance. This study, therefore, examined whether personality is associated with student perceptions of audiovisual technology acceptance, and whether general self-efficacy mediates this association. In total, 244 students completed an online survey including measures of personality, general self-efficacy, and perceptions of audiovisual technology acceptance. Canonical correlation uncovered significant associations between personality and student beliefs about technology use. Results further revealed that general self-efficacy fully mediated the effects of openness to experience and neuroticism on Perceived Ease of Use, whereas the association between agreeableness and Perceived Usefulness was partially mediated by self-efficacy beliefs. The fact that personality influences students’ perceptions of technology acceptance both directly and indirectly should not remain unnoticed, especially when designing intervention programs to enhance their academic performance.

The e-commerce industry has the potential to be one of the drivers of the domestic economy. One of the impacts of the advancement of e-commerce is the emergence of many online-based marketplaces or so-called e-marketplaces. However, a lot of these online marketplaces sell 90% imported products. In addition, the outbreak of Covid-19 in Indonesia has prompted the government to establish several policies that have significantly reduced MSME performance by up to 70-100%. This study aimed to provide an empirical analysis of the influence of factors based on the Technology of Acceptance Model (TAM) approach, namely e-marketplace self-efficacy, complexity, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude towards using, behavioral intention to use, and actual technology use in e-marketplaces. The sample consisted of MSMEs in East Java, especially those engaged in the food and beverage industry sector with ready-to-eat processed food products whose business activities use the Shopee e-marketplace application platform. This is an online shopping marketplace focused on mobile platforms. There were 150 respondents. The Structural Equation Model (SEM) was used. E-marketplace self-efficacy, complexity, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, attitude towards using, behavioral intention to use, and actual technology use in e-marketplaces all had positive effects on each other. This showed that a system that offers convenience will improve behavior, habits, and performance for MSMEs in using e-marketplace activities. The theoretical and methodological implications and opportunities for further research are discussed. Keywords: MSMEs, e-marketplace, technology acceptance model

The Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 is changing the way we live including Internet Banking. Although, the government has been encouraging, the acceptance of internet banking is still not well received by Chinese customers. The reason is because they are more concerned about the economic development on the banking industry, and less concerned about technology acceptance and its development. This lack of acceptance is also attributed to the current lack of social network influence to internet banking which including its weak compliance, lack of identification, and lack of internalization. This paper aims to identify the factors that may be influencing IB acceptance by proposing a model which can determine customer’s behavioural intention based on social network influence. The TAM, UTAUT and the Social Influence Theory (SIT) were simultaneously adopted for this study. It is to use the TAM model’s perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, the UTAUT model’s social influence, and the SIT’s compliance, identification and internalization factor for the analysis. For this purpose, a preliminary study was first administered so as to identify customers’ attitude of the IB acceptance. Thirty respondents were recruited for a structured interview. The behavioural intention and social network influence on internet banking in China was then examined with the proposed model. It appears that the model can be used to forecast Chinese customers’ acceptance of internet banking. It will give benefits to bank and society on paying attention to the influence of social network for internet banking in China.

Relocation to residential care facilities by older persons (60+) can decrease their social connectedness with their primary networks. The purpose of the study was to identify the use and acceptance of technology-assisted communication to increase social connectedness in older persons (N = 103) in an urban residential care facility in South Africa. The research design was a non-experimental quantitative descriptive survey using self-administered questionnaires based on the Technology Acceptance Model. All residents were included in the study. Perceived Ease of Use, Perceived Usefulness and Attitude scales were calculated and the Behavioural Intention for technology use was measured. Participants with the highest Behavioural Intention were residents in their first year of relocation, younger participants (60–74 years), divorced participants and participants with higher educational qualifications. Perceived Ease of Use and Perceived Usefulness were low and were directly correlated. Perceived Ease of Use contributed significantly towards Attitudes concerning technology use. The overall Behavioural Intention for technology use was good (60/75) and the Technology Acceptance Model pathway was confirmed using Structural Equation Modelling. Video chat offered greatest appeal for future use.

Technology has made life easier in today’s world. In addition, developments in technologies and communication have become commonplace for majority of people. Global telecommunication development has reduced distances around the globe, and made it easy for businesses to proliferate worldwide. This study explored the factors affecting the use of telecommunication services among customers through mobile phones. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been extensively used in the field of technology use but is lacking when it comes to factors that affect customers’ intention to use service as they focus more on technology. On the basis of review findings, there is a positive relationship between service quality, subjective norms, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use of service and voluntariness moderates the relationship between subjective norms and intention to use service. These and other relationships are considered in the development of a Service Acceptance Model.

Although most universities and educators are relying on implementing various technological tools in the curriculum, acceptance of such tools among students is still not sufficient. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been widely used by researchers to test user’s acceptance of technology in business, education and other domains. This research study is an attempt that tests the integration of TAM and user satisfaction in the educational field. It particularly investigates students’ acceptance to use MyMathLab, a technological tool, in university math classes in the Middle East. Structural equation modelling with various constructs was used. Findings support the theoretical model showing the great influence of user satisfaction on perceived ease of use and subjective norm on behavioural intention. The findings of this study also demonstrate that self-efficacy, user satisfaction, subjective norms, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and students’ attitude constructs all have a positive impact on students’ behavioural intentions to adopt and use technological tools in a mathematics class room. Findings of this research have greater implications for educators and students worldwide.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the effects of personality traits on teachers’ technology acceptance. Design/methodology/approach To this end, a demographic information survey, Five-Factor inventory, and technology acceptance measure were used for data collection. The data were analyzed via structural equation modeling. Findings According to the findings, conscientiousness has no significant effect on behavioral intention (BI) whereas openness and extraversion have positive indirect effects. On the other hand, agreeableness and neuroticism have negative indirect effects on BI. It was seen that the developed model explains 70 percent of BI, 77 percent of attitude toward use, 42 percent of perceived usefulness, 64 percent of perceived ease of use, and 15 percent of computer self-efficacy (CSE). It was revealed that CSE mediates the indirect effects of different personality traits on these variables. Practical implications In this regard, highlighting the conveniences to be brought by using Tablet PCs and equipping teachers with competencies to use relevant technologies during teacher training and in-service training may be effective in developing BI to use Tablet PCs among teachers. Originality/value The present study is different from previous studies in that it examines more than one technology through more than one measurement, takes personality as the predictor of technology use tendencies, and focuses on causal relationships between technology use and personality.
