The reliability of home-based fitness assessments on health mobile application in healthy adults (Preprint)

BACKGROUND Poor physical fitness has negative impact on health conditions. More and more health-related applications (App) have emerged to reduce burden of medicine, and inconvenience of long distance. However, there were insufficient studies about home-based fitness tests on the app. Insufficient monitor of physiological signals during executing fitness assessment was noted. Therefore, we developed the fitness App incorporating all components of fitness assessments under physiological signals monitor. OBJECTIVE The first aim of study was to investigate the reliability of home-based fitness assessments on health mobile app in healthy adults. Secondly, we aimed to examine and compare the results of fitness assessment on the App. METHODS Thirty-one healthy young adults self-executed fitness assessments on the App for 2 trials in 2-3 day interval. The fitness assessments include cardiorespiratory endurance, strength, flexibility, mobility and balance tests. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was computed as relative reliability of fitness assessments and determined consistency between 2 trials. The standard error of measurement (SEM), smallest real difference at 90% confidence interval (SRD90), and Bland-Altman analyses were analyzed and used for agreement, sensitivity to real change, and systematic bias detection. RESULTS The relative reliability of fitness assessments was moderate to good (ICCs for raw scores= 0.8 to 0.99, for converting scores= 0.69 to 0.99). The SEM and SRD90 were 1.44 to 6.91 and 3.36 to 16.11, respectively in all fitness assessments. The 95% confidence interval of mean difference indicated no significant systematic error between 2 trials in strength, and balance tests. The Bland-Altman analyses revealed no significant systematic bias between 2 trials for all fitness assessments and few outliers. The Bland-Altman plots illustrated narrow limits of agreement for UE strength, trunk strength, and right leg stance tests, indicating good agreement between 2 trials. CONCLUSIONS Home-based fitness assessments on the health mobile application were reliable and feasible. The results of fitness assessments can offer comprehensive understanding of health conditions and help to prescribe safe and suitable exercise training. CLINICALTRIAL ChiCTR2000030905

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usability of telerehabilitation as a method of teaching self-management for chronic swelling of the lower limbs in persons with limited mobility. An in-home telerehabilitation self-management education protocol for chronic swelling of the lower limbs, termed Telerehabilitation to Empower You to Manage and Prevent Swelling (TR-PUMPS), was implemented using the Versatile and Integrated System for Telerehabilitation (VISYTER) software platform. Participants (n=11) were 36-79 years old, predominately female (72.7%) and diagnosed with a variety of health conditions. Participants’ perceived usability scores of the remote delivery of TR-PUMPS was high with a median score of 6.67 (range 4.90 - 7.00) on a Likert scale: 1= disagree to 7= agree. There was no correlation between participants’ familiarity with information technology and their perception of telerehabilitation usability. These results support telerehabilitation as a viable method for teaching a home-based, self-management

So, the system introduced successfully works to reduce death rate as well as to minimize drug intake in patient’s body. The system comprises of raspberry pi based pill recognition device namely “Pillbox”, Apache cloud based platform and android based mobile application.

Background: Sufficient physical activity (PA) lowers poor health outcomes, with data showing these protective effects in populations under varying levels of lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic. The advent of online PA programmes has created novel opportunities to offset the deleterious effects of inactivity. However, data are limited and the readiness and acceptance of such technology is unknown. These authors nevertheless noted an opportunity to investigate this approach based on promising emerging data at the time of the hard lockdown in South Africa. Objective: This exploratory study investigated the engagement and perceptions of a smartphone application to promote health and fitness in a sample of employees at a South African university. Methods: Employed members of staff (n=15) of the University of the Witwatersrand were recruited through email invitation during the hard Level 5 COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Individualised home-based PA programmes were prescribed through a mobile application for a period of eight weeks. Researchers qualified in Biokinetics provided online supervision of the exercise sessions during the intervention. Participants were asked to complete a self-reported questionnaire about their use of the application. Thematic analysis was used to understand these responses. Results: Lack of motivation was perceived to have a negative effect on participation in the online PA programme. Only one participant reported using the mobile application consistently during the study period, while half of the participants reported having trouble with the usage of the application. The participants frequently mentioned the need for technical support and further engagement from the clinicians supervising the PA programme to ensure use and progression. Staff identified issues with connectivity and already having too many phone applications (apps) amongst the reasons for the technical difficulties. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the challenges and potential for the uptake of online PA interventions during COVID-19 and, despite its small sample size, the data provide important lessons learned that will be used as information in further investigations.

This study aimed to develop a home-based exercise application to improve the exercising performance in patients with peripheral artery disease. This application is based on a theoretical framework and is paired with a wearable device, Fitbit Charge4. The application comprised five main categories with 30 screens: login, a record of exercise, goal achievement, information, and motivation. Using the application to nursing practice can manage and encourage patients to exercise without limitations of time and place.

Introduction: Stroke nurse is functioning as a vital member of the stroke team. She/he provides care to the stroke patients in acute as well as post-acute periods. She/he coordinates among other team members to facilitate the stroke care continuum. Post-stroke care is always a challenge for health care professional as well as caregivers. During current pandemic conditions, it is essential to provide quality care at their home. Purpose: To develop a mobile application to provide home based care for prevention and management of post stroke complications among survivors. Methods: Survey was carried out among 170 bedridden stroke survivors and their caregivers to assess problems faced like aspiration pneumonia, bedsore, urinary tract infection, deep vein thrombosis, frozen shoulder, contractures, and caregiver burden. On the basis of findings ‘Stroke home care’ a bilingual (in Hindi and English) mobile application was developed which contains step by step nursing-care-procedural videos to prevent bedsore, bedsore dressing, positioning change, Ryle’s tube feeding, Foley’s catheter care, active and passive range of motion exercises, hand washing with soap-water as well with sanitizer, psychological support to patients. Results: Through this intervention, caregivers of bedridden stroke patients get trained for care procedures so that they can provide best possible nursing care to their patients at home and can prevent post stroke complications and ultimately enhances quality of life of survivors and reduce caregivers’ burden. Conclusion: ‘Stroke Home Care’ is a novel intervention developed by a stroke nurse which has been developed and tested not just for its feasibility and acceptability but also proven for its clinical applicability through PROBE designed study. This web based intervention can provide rehabilitation services to bedridden stroke survivors at their home in this pandemic.
