Background: Non-infectious disease (NID) has become a public health problem both globally, regionally, nasionally, and locally. One of NID that takes a lot of attention is diabetes mellitus (DM). Risk of complication is higher due to lack of attention to lifestyle including diet. The concept of the glycemic index classifies carbohydrate is considered better in controlling blood sugar. However, some studies say otherwise. Therefore, research needs to be done by combining carbohydrate quantity concept (glycemic load) and glycemic indexObjective: To identify the relationship between estimated dietary glycemic index and glycemic load with blood sugar control, as well as to identify other factors associated with glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitusMethod: This is an observational study with cross-sectional design. The population study were all outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Dr.Sardjito hospital Yogyakarta in 2014. Sampling method using a consecutive sampling with sample size of 79 people. Interviews regarding the identity of the respondents through questionnaires, physical activity (IPAQ), and semi-quantitative food frequency (SQFFQ). Blood sugar control (HbA1C) obtained from respondent’s medical record. The data were processed using univariable analysis (descriptive), bivariate (chi-square), and multivariate (GLM)Results: Most respondents were blood sugar uncontrolled (84,81%). Average of dietary GI and GL was 63,26±3,23 and 127,65±43,02. Bivariate test showed that the dietary GI and GL each has a RP value 1,023 and 1,002, and statistically significant (p<0,05) with HbA1C. The prevalence of uncontrolled blood sugar 4,18 times greater in respondents who doesn’t have appropriate eating schedule. Duration of diabetes, nutritional status, physical activity, and education level did not significantly influence HbA1C (p>0,05)Conclusion: There is a relationship between dietary GI, GL, and eating schedule with blood sugar control (HbA1C), but there was no correlation between duration of diabetes, nutritional status, physical activity, and education level with blood sugar control (HbA1C)

Background: Previous studies have reported the presence of diabetes ketoacidosis in patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). India reported that up to 30% of hospitalized DKA cases result in inpatient death. Aims and objectives of the study was to study the role of HbA1c and duration of diabetes in outcome of patients of diabetic ketoacidosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: Hundred T2DM patients having DKA admitted in the Department of Medicine, Gandhi Medical College and Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal, were included. Data on demography (age, sex and diabetes duration, random blood sugar (RBS) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) were recorded for each patients. Outcome was also recorded and compared with duration of diabetes and HbA1c level. Results: DKA was more common in age group of51-55 years (21%) with mean age of 56.10±10.40 years. Male preponderance was observed. Mean duration of diabetes, hemoglobin, random blood sugar (RBS) and HbA1c were 7.28±3.81 years, 9.8±1.42 gm%, 351.72±22.32 mg/dl, and 7.14±0.10 respectively. Mortality was higher among the patients with longer duration of diabetes (23.1%; p=0.012) and higher HbA1c (25%, p>0.05).Conclusions: Duration of diabetes play a significant role in deciding mortality in T2DM patients with DKA however HbA1c has no role in that.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between diet and physical activity on blood sugar levels of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at Pancaran Kasih Hospital in Manado City and the results of this study can be used as input material for patients to be able to maintain their diet and regulate physical activity to control blood sugar levels remain at normal limits. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition where the body cannot or does not produce insulin optimally. The study design used was a type of observational study with a cross sectional approach to determine the relationship between risk factors and disease. In this study used 2 independent variables, namely diet and physical activity and the dependent variable Diabetes Mellitus. The method of taking samples is using purposive sampling in accordance with the proposed inclusion and exclusion criteria. The samples needed in this study were 41 people determined by the Slovin formula. From the results of this study note that eating patterns have a value of p = 0.00, p <0.05 which means there is a significant relationship with eating patterns with blood sugar levels of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Results of physical activity p = 0.03, p < 0.05 which means there is a significant relationship between physical activity and blood sugar levels in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at Pancaran Kasih Hospital in Manado City.

Background: Diabetes Mellitus is one of the degenerative diseases which is the highest morbidity by increasing 30,2 % from 2012 to 2013 in Surabaya. Low physical activity is suspected to be one factor of uncontrolled fasting blood sugar level of Diabetes Melitus patients. Objectives: Based on the problem, this study was conducted to analyze the relationship of physical activity with fasting blood sugar level of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patient in MulyorejoPublic Health Center Surabaya. Methods: This research used cross sectional design with a sample of 62 people. Data were collected using structured interview guide and IPAQ. Blood sampling using spectrophotometer method performed by medical analyst of laboratory of Mulyorejo Public Health Center. Analysis used was Spearman's Rho statistical test. Results: The results showed as many as 62.9% of respondents had low physical activity and as much as 58.0% of respondents had fasting blood sugar levels in the high category. The results showed there was a correlation between physical activity with fasting blood sugar level of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patient. Conclusion: Theconclusion of this research there was relationship between physical activity with fasting blood glucose level of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patient. We recommend that people with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus apply good physical activity such as cycling  or walking routinely 3-4 days a week for 20 minutes each day and reduce sitting activity so that fasting blood sugar levels can be controlled.ABSTRAK Latar belakang: Diabetes Mellitus merupakan salah satu penyakit degeneratif yang masih tinggi di kota Surabaya dengan peningkatan kasus dari tahun 2012 ke tahun 2013 sebesar 30,2 %.
