Fuzzy techniques have been successfully used in control in several fields, and engineers and researchers are today considering fuzzy logic algorithms in order to implement intelligent functions in embedded systems. We have started to develop a set of teaching tools to support our courses on intelligent control. Low cost implementations of didactic systems are particularly important in developing countries. In this paper we present the implementation of a minimal PD fuzzy four-rule algorithm in a lowcost 8-bit microcontroller, using a fuzzy logic software development system. On this ground we constructed a stand-alone fuzzy controller for a didactic liquid level system. We describe the methodology we followed, and present simulation and real time results of this controller.

When considering the concept of distributed intelligent control, three types of components can be defined: (i) fuzzy sensors which provide a representation of measurements as fuzzy subsets, (ii) fuzzy actuators which can operate in the real world based on the fuzzy subsets they receive, and, (iii) the fuzzy components of the inference. As a result, these elements generate new fuzzy subsets from the fuzzy elements that were previously used. The purpose of this article is to define the elements of an interoperable technology Fuzzy Applied Cell Control-soft computing language for the development of fuzzy components with distributed intelligence implemented on the DSP target. The cells in the network are configured using the operations of symbolic fusion, symbolic inference and fuzzy–real symbolic transformation, which are based on the concepts of fuzzy meaning and fuzzy description. The two applications presented in the article, Agent-based modeling and fuzzy logic for simulating pedestrian crowds in panic decision-making situations and Fuzzy controller for mobile robot, are both timely. The increasing occurrence of panic moments during mass events prompted the investigation of the impact of panic on crowd dynamics and the simulation of pedestrian flows in panic situations. Based on the research presented in the article, we propose a Fuzzy controller-based system for determining pedestrian flows and calculating the shortest evacuation distance in panic situations. Fuzzy logic, one of the representation techniques in artificial intelligence, is a well-known method in soft computing that allows the treatment of strong constraints caused by the inaccuracy of the data obtained from the robot’s sensors. Based on this motivation, the second application proposed in the article creates an intelligent control technique based on Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC), a feature of intelligent control systems that can be used as an alternative to traditional control techniques for mobile robots. This method allows you to simulate the experience of a human expert. The benefits of using a network of fuzzy components are not limited to those provided distributed systems. Fuzzy cells are simple to configure while also providing high-level functions such as mergers and decision-making processes.

The constantly increasing performance/price ratio of microcontrollers means electronic system can replace more and more electromechanical ones. In design, the goal is not to just replace the solution but also to improve it by adding new functionalities. The paper presents a model of industrial controller having possibility of the classical programming controller, with added elements of the fuzzy logic. Here fuzzy logic offers a technical control strategy that uses elements of everyday language. In this application, it is used to design a control strategy that adapts to the need of individual user. It achieves a higher comfort level and reduces energy consumption. Here we have used a fuzzy method which selects the contractions that best meet the specifications, where human knowledge is involved in a decision making process. With a fuzzy-logic software development system, the entire system, which includes conventional code for signal preprocessing as well as the fuzzy logic system, can be implemented on an industry-standard microcontroller. Using fuzzy logic on such a low-cost platform makes this a possible solution with most AC systems. Each home AC has a sensor that measures room temperature and compares it with the temperature set on the dial. The fuzzy logic controller uses a bimetallic switch and compares the set temperature with room temperature.

SummaryNavigation and collision avoidance are major areas of research in mobile robotics that involve varying degrees of uncertainty. In general, the problem consists of achieving sensor based motion control of a mobile robot among obstacles in structured and/or unstructured environments with collision-free motion as the priority. A fuzzy logic based intelligent control strategy has been developed here to computationally implement the approximate reasoning necessary for handling the uncertainty inherent in the collision avoidance problem. The fuzzy controller was tested on a mobile robot system in an indoor environment and found to perform satisfactorily despite having crude sensors and minimal sensory feedback.

<p>Non linear loads are highly effected by variations in voltages. Dynamic voltage restorer is one of the most popular compensating devices due to its low cost and better performance. Usage of Park’s transformation technique effectively reduces the rating of Dynamic voltage restorer. Application of fuzzy logic controller for getting the better result is proposed in this paper. The results are verified in Matlab/Simulink environment.</p>


Fuzzy logic which is one of methodology of soft computing has provided to be brilliant choice for the many control system application. Fuzzy logic is practical to numerous fields. One of the uses of fuzzy logic is in sugar mill. It is very important to produce sugar at low cost. Irregular supply of sugar cane decreases the efficiency of cane juice extraction during manufacturing of sugar. To increase the efficiency of cane juice extraction it is necessary to sustain the cane height at desired level inside Donnelly chute. A methodology to develop a variable feed rate algorithm for three inputs fuzzy controller sustains the cane height at desired level and was developed with fuzzy logic tool box of MATLAB software. The developed fuzzy controller can be implemented by using HDL language and Xilinx Vivado 2016.2.

An estimated 80 % of all illnesses in developing countries is in one way or another related to water. In order to alleviate this most serious condition, the united Nations has initiated the “International Water Decade”, for which the estimated costs are $600 000 million, a sum which is far beyond any available means. By application of “low-cost technology” this sum could be reduced to $100 000 million which brings the objective within the reach of possibility. Details are given of the design and methods of construction of units which are best suited to the specific requirements and which would be simple, reliable and economical to operate. These can be constructed largely from local materials and by local labour. The need for appropriate training of both operators and the user population is stressed.

Background: The performance of the network protocol depends on number of parameters like re-broadcast probability, mobility, the distance between source and destination, hop count, queue length and residual energy, etc. Objective: In this paper, a new energy efficient routing protocol IAOMDV-PF is developed based on the fixed threshold re-broadcast probability determination and best route selection using fuzzy logic from multiple routes. Methods: In the first phase, the proposed protocol determines fixed threshold rebroadcast probability. It is used for discovering multiple paths between the source and the destination. The threshold probability at each node decides the rebroadcasting of received control packets to its neighbors thereby reducing routing overheads and energy consumption. The multiple paths list received from the first phase and supply to the second phase that is the fuzzy controller selects the best path. This fuzzy controller has been named as Fuzzy Best Route Selector (FBRS). FBRS determines the best path based on function of queue length, the distance between nodes and mobility of nodes. Results: Comparative analysis of the proposed protocol named as "Improved Ad-Hoc On-demand Multiple Path Distance Vector based on Probabilistic and Fuzzy logic" (IAOMDV-PF) shows that it is more efficient in terms of overheads and energy consumption. Conclusion: The proposed protocol reduced energy consumption by about 61%, 58% and 30% with respect to FF-AOMDV, IAOMDV-F and FPAOMDV routing protocols, respectively. The proposed protocol has been simulated and analyzed by using NS-2.

A new control system of a hand gesture-controlled wheelchair (EWC) is proposed. This smart control device is suitable for a large number of patients who cannot manipulate a standard joystick wheelchair. The movement control system uses a camera fixed on the wheelchair. The patient’s hand movements are recognized using a visual recognition algorithm and artificial intelligence software; the derived corresponding signals are thus used to control the EWC in real time. One of the main features of this control technique is that it allows the patient to drive the wheelchair with a variable speed similar to that of a standard joystick. The designed device “hand gesture-controlled wheelchair” is performed at low cost and has been tested on real patients and exhibits good results. Before testing the proposed control device, we have created a three-dimensional environment simulator to test its performances with extreme security. These tests were performed on real patients with diverse hand pathologies in Mohamed Kassab National Institute of Orthopedics, Physical and Functional Rehabilitation Hospital of Tunis, and the validity of this intelligent control system had been proved.
