This study aims to determine the genus of coral and coral diseases in the coral reef ecosystem of Tuan Island Peukan Bada, Aceh Besar District. The data of coral genera were gathered by using point intercept transect method, whereas, the data of coral diseases were gathered by using survey method. The data were identified by using handbook and then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there were 5 coral genera found in Tuan Island Pekan Bada namely: Acropora, Montipora, Pocillopora, Porites, and Goniastrea. Meanwhile, coral diseases that are found in Tuan Island were ulcerative white spots, growth anomalies of an unknown cause, sediment damage, alga overgrowth, pink line disease dan pigmentation responses. The conclusion of this study were (1) the coral reefs that were found in Tuan Island Peukan Bada, Aceh Besar District consisted of 5 genera, and (2) coral diseases in Tuan Island consisted of 6 types of diseases.

Local ecological knowledge (LEK) refers to the knowledge of people in a local community that can be used in assessing environmental conditions as well as reflecting the interaction that occur in an ecosystem. The purpose of this study was to examine condition of coral reef ecosystem based on the LEK’s community in a marine protected area east coast weh island (KKPD PTPW) Sabang. Assessment of the coral reef condition based on the local’s ecological knowledge is justified from the suitability of the area by comparing map of the coral reefs condition based on LEK and observation map of the coral reefs condition during the study. Based on LEK, it is known that in the PTPW Sabang region coral reefs which falls under deteriorated class is found in the northern sea of Kelurahan Kota Atas, while those which falls under good condition class are found in Ie Meule and Ujung Kareng as well as in Anoi Itam except Benteng. Result from the observations done in 13 stations found that sea region near Sumur Tiga, Ujung Kareung and Benteng have a good coral reefs with a coverage range of 51-65 %. While the sea in Ujung Seuke, Anoi Itam and Reuteuk have a moderate coral reefs with a percentage of coverage ranging from 44- 49. Respondents’ perceptions of the coral reef condition during the last 10 years which include 55% respondents in Ie Meule and 74.29% of respondend in Anoi Itam stated that there is an increment of coral reefs coverage.

The aim of the research is to determine the total direct use value of the coral reefs ecosystem in Tourist park Padaido Sea of Biak Numfor Regency. This research used survey method with 244 samples from fishermen as respondents withdrawn with cluster sampling method based on the type of catching tools used a question list to collect data. The total direct use values of coral reefs were analized by calculating direct use value of income fisherman of tourist park are, direct use value of tourism, direct use of coral reef and direct use of research. The results of the research indicated that the total direct use values of coral reef ecosystem of Tourist Park in Padaido sea was Rp 180.002.545.756,-/year or Rp 28.814.238,-/ha/year. Direct use value of reef fisheries was Rp 14.652.565.556,- /year or Rp 2.345.563,-/ha/year, direct use value of tourism was Rp 290.360.000,-/year or Rp 46.480,-/ha/year, direct use value of coral reef was Rp 164.788.180.200,- or Rp 26.378.771,-/ha/year and direc use value of research was Rp 271.440.000,- or Rp 43.451,-/ha/year.

Coral reefs are one of the typical ecosystems in coastal areas that have ecological and economicvalue. There are many cases of coral reef damage in Salah Nama Island caused by natural andhuman factors. Coral reefs damage is mostly caused by human activities such as water pollution,destructive fishing and using of ship anchors. Activity of devotion society aims to provideinformation and skills to fishermen groups in Salah Nama Island about coral transplantationtechniques, as well as conducting coral transplantation activities as one of the efforts to preservethe ecosystem of coral reefs. Based on the description of the problems and objectives of devotionsociety, the activities that have been done are counseling to the partner fishermen abouttransplantation and coral benefits in ecosystem, transplantation practice and coral transplantationmonitoring.

The coral reef ecosystem is one of the typical tropical ecosystems with high biodiversity which has an important role both biologically, ecologically, physically as well as socially and economically. Several coral reef areas in Indonesia were reported to have suffered damage, not only due to climate change which has an impact on rising sea surface temperatures and ocean acidification but also due to anthropogenic factors and irresponsible management of marine tourism. This study aimed to analyze the condition of coral reefs based on covering in Pramuka Island, which is one of the famous tourist destinations in the Seribu Islands. The study was conducted using Line Intercept Transect (LIT) method at predetermined coordinate points. The results showed that the dominant coral reef life form was Acropora Submassive (ACS), namely 18.9%, and Acropora Branching (ACB) as much as 12.48%. Besides, the types of life forms found were coral foliase (9.42%), Miliepora Coral (9.2%), Coral Massive (4.8%), Acropora Encrustring (4.24%), and so on. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the condition of coral reefs in Pramuka Island is still relatively good with a total coral cover percentage of 72.38%. Efforts to protect the coral reef ecosystem in this area need to be considered so that its condition can be maintained.

Conservation effort and knowledge on coral reef ecosystem are necessary to protect marine ecosystem. Coral reef ecosystem is very important to support marine biota especially fishes and benthos. The presence of coral reef indirectly support local people income, therefore is is necessary to conserve coral reef ecosystem. District of South Waigeo is one of tourist area as well as preserve area in Raja Ampat Regency of Papua Barat Province. The aim of this study is to identify the current condition of coral reef in Saporken Village of South waigeo District. Data were collected by survey method using coral reefs Point intercept transect method, observation and interviews to determine the social, economic and cultural impact., and measures taken to manage coral reef management in village Saporkren Marine Protected Areas. The results showed that knowledge Saporkren Village community, the conservation community knows about how destructive such arrests are not carried out the bombing, while the traditional way people work is local wisdom. Condition of coral cover in the village of Marine Protected Areas Saporkren in good condition (live coral cover=51%) and very good water quality, flow velocity at high tide ranged from 4.25 to 22.3 cm/sec and the flow velocity at low tide over small ranging from 5.07 to 19.60 cm/sec, salinity ranged from 32–35‰ and wave height ranged from 0.75 m. Based on the results of this study concluded that: Village community know Saporkren conservation activities of local government programs, and the traditional way to preserve coral reef still implemented.Key words: Conservation, coral reefs, Saporkren village, Raja Ampat.

Brandl et al. (Reports, 21 June 2019, p. 1189) report that cryptobenthic fishes underpin coral reef ecosystem function by contributing ~60% of “consumed fish” biomass and ~20% of production. These results are artifacts of their simulation. Using their data and model, we show that cryptobenthic species contribute less than 4% to fish production, calling into question the extent to which they contribute to the high productivity of coral reefs.

Foraminifera telah banyak digunakan sebagai indikator kualitas perairan sekitar terumbu karang di Indonesia berdasarkan perbandingan kelompok foraminifera bentonik tertentu. Studi tersebut diterapkan di sekitar Pulau Tegal, Teluk Lampung yang merupakan salah satu destinasi wisata yang secara tidak langsung memberikan pengaruh terhadap ekosistem terumbu karang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur komunitas foraminifera bentonik kaitannya dengan kondisi perairan terumbu karang Pulau Tegal, Teluk Lampung. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 16 stasiun penelitian di Pulau Tegal yang mewakili semua sisi pulau dengan variasi kedalaman dari 0 meter hingga 28 meter. Hasil dari penelitian ini ditemukan 6.918 spesimen foraminifera bentonik dengan keanekaragaman yang tergolong rendah. Genera Amphistegina dan Elphidium ditemukan sangat melimpah pada hampir seluruh stasiun. Nilai Indeks FORAM (FI) diatas 4 ditemukan pada 11 stasiun penelitian yang mengindikasikan bahwa sebagian besar perairan Pulau Tegal berada dalam kondisi yang sangat baik dan kondusif untuk pertumbuhan serta pemulihan terumbu karang. Hasil ini sejalan dengan melimpahnya kehadiran kelompok foraminifera yang berasosiasi dengan terumbu karang pada perairan Pulau Tegal.Kata Kunci: Bioindikator, Pulau Tegal, Indeks FORAM, Terumbu Karang, Komunitas.Foraminifera has been widely used as an indicator of the quality of the waters around coral reefs in Indonesia based on the comparison of certain groups of benthonic foraminifera. The study was implemented around Tegal Island, Lampung Bay, which is one of the tourist destinations that influence the coral reef ecosystem. This study aims to determine the structure of bentonic foraminifera communities related to the condition of the coral reef waters of Tegal Island, Lampung Bay. This research was conducted at 16 research stations in Tegal Island representing all sides of the island with variations in depth from 0 m to 28 m water depth. The results of this study found 6.918 specimens of bentonic foraminifera with relatively low diversity. The genera Amphistegina and Elphidium were found to be very abundant in almost all stations. The FORAM Index (FI) above 4 was found in 11 research stations which indicated that most of the waters of Tegal Island were in very good conditions and conducive to the growth and recovery of coral reefs. This result is in line with the abundance of the presence of foraminifera groups associated with coral reefs in the waters of Tegal Island. <p>Coral reef ecosystem has diverse shape and stunning beauty. It has high value on both ecological and economical aspect it has productivity greater than other marine life. Local Marine Conservation Area, Bengkayang, West Kalimantan (Lemukutan island, Penata Besar island, Penata Kecil island, Seluas island, Rahdayan island) has a high potential on coastal and marine natural resources especially coral reefs ecosystem. The study was purposed to determine the condition coral reef ecosystem and the diversity of hard corals (Scleractinia). Samples have been taking from 5-7 meters depth in every point using Line Intercept Transect method (LIT). The observation result from the coral reef in Local Marine Conservation Area showed as the followings varies from bad to good (13.82 – 69.00%), but biotic components were found in each area that consist of sediment with percentage of 4.32-37.68% and the rock of 2.57- 38.22%. Hard coral community consists of 35 species including seven families. Genus Acropora as hard coral species is dominating the five islands. The damage of coral reefs that occurs in most of the study area is due to increased suspended material (sediments). </p><p><strong>Keywords</strong>: Coral reefs, Scleractinia, Acropora, LIT, Local Marine Conservation Area, Bengkayang, West Kalimantan.</p>

Symbiotic relationships enable partners to thrive and survive in habitats where they would either not be as successful, or potentially not exist, without the symbiosis. The coral reef ecosystem, and its immense biodiversity, relies on the symbioses between cnidarians (e.g., scleractinian corals, octocorals, sea anemones, jellyfish) and multiple organisms including dinoflagellate algae (family Symbiodiniaceae), bivalves, crabs, shrimps, and fishes. In this review, we discuss the ramifications of whether coral reef cnidarian symbioses are obligatory, whereby at least one of the partners must be in the symbiosis in order to survive or are facultative. Furthermore, we cover the consequences of cnidarian symbioses exhibiting partner flexibility or fidelity. Fidelity, where a symbiotic partner can only engage in symbiosis with a subset of partners, may be absolute or context dependent. Current literature demonstrates that many cnidarian symbioses are highly obligative and appear to exhibit absolute fidelity. Consequently, for many coral reef cnidarian symbioses, surviving changing environmental conditions will depend on the robustness and potential plasticity of the existing host-symbiont(s) combination. If environmental conditions detrimentally affect even one component of this symbiotic consortium, it may lead to a cascade effect and the collapse of the entire symbiosis. Symbiosis is at the heart of the coral reef ecosystem, its existence, and its high biodiversity. Climate change may cause the demise of some of the cnidarian symbioses, leading to subsequent reduction in biodiversity on coral reefs.
