Abstract Dynamic hot-electron emission using time-resolved photon counting can address the long-term failure analysis and debug requirements of the semiconductor industry's advanced devices. This article identifies the detector performance parameters and components that are required to scale and keep pace with the industry's requirements. It addresses the scalability of dynamic emission with the semiconductor advanced device roadmap. It is important to understand the limitations to determining that a switching event has occurred. The article explains the criteria for event detection, which is suitable for tracking signal propagation and looking for logic or other faults in which timing is not critical. It discusses conditions for event timing, whose goal is to determine accurately when a switching event has occurred, usually for speed path analysis. One of the uses of a dynamic emission system is to identify faults by studying the emission as a general function of time.

The purpose of this study is to understand the functional status distribution and to explore the factors associated with changes in functional status and social participation in people with depression using two-year follow-up data. Subjects were selected from the Taiwan Databank of Persons with Disabilities (TDPD) if they had an evaluation date between July 2012 and 31 December 2017. We used data for 1138 individuals with multiple evaluation records and who were diagnosed with depression. The WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) was the primary functional status measure. Other factors selected from the TDPD included social demographic data, living situation, employment status, economic status, and educational level. The results show scores in all dimensions of the WHODAS 2.0 declined over two years, especially in the domains of cognition, household activities, social participation, and total WHODAS 2.0 score. Aging groups showed poor recovery in cognition, getting along with others, and household activities. People living in suburban areas showed poorer recovery than people living in rural and urban areas in cognition, self-care, and general function (total score of WHODAS 2.0). Employment was also strongly associated with functional recovery in household activities, social participation, and general function. The original scores for cognition and getting along with others showed a significant negative relationship with social participation improvement. Our results can be used by policy makers to provide resources and conduct investigations, and by clinicians when making rehabilitation plans.

AbstractApplication of a novel bioorganic fertilizer (BIO) has been effectively used to inhibit weeds in rice paddies. To identify changes in soil bacterial community and enzymes in response to BIO treatments, field experiments were carried out in five major rice-growing areas in China. The dominant phylogenetic groups recorded included Proteobacteria, Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes and Acidobacteria. Anaeromyxobacter, Bacteroides, Bifidobacterium, Escherichia- Shigella, Geobacter and Haliangium were significantly different between BIO-treatment and untreated control and aided in general function (R), amino acid transport, metabolism (E) and transcription (K) clusters. The soil chemical properties and enzyme activities were less affected by BIO at these study sites. RDA analysis showed that soil bacterial community had a significant positive correlations among northern latitude, eastern longitude, exchangeable K, total K, total P, soil pH, and total N, except for organic matter, hydrolytic N and extractable P. Overall, our work showed that application of BIO does not alter the main community structure and functional diversity of soil bacteria in rice paddies and should be encouraged for use as a sustainable weed management strategy.

Spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) is a hereditary neurodegenerative disorder that presents as ataxia. Due to the decline in balance, patients with SCA often experience restricted mobility and a decreased quality of life. Thus, many studies have emphasized the importance of physiotherapies, including gait training, in SCA patients. However, few studies have examined the effectiveness of robotic gait training in SCA. Here, we report the therapeutic outcomes of exoskeleton-assisted gait training in a patient with SCA. A 23-year-old woman with SCA participated in a gait training program using a powered lower-limb robotic exoskeleton, ANGELLEGS. The 8-week training program consisted of standing training, weight-shifting exercises, and gait training. Several measures of general function, balance, gait, and cardiopulmonary function were applied before, after, and 4 weeks after the program. After the program, overall improvements were found on scales measuring balance and gait function, and these improvements remained at 4 weeks after the program. Cardiopulmonary function was also improved 4 weeks after the program. Robotic exoskeleton gait training can be a beneficial option for training balance, gait, and cardiopulmonary function in SCA.

This article builds on the work of Cook (1994) and Semino (1997), although it begins by attempting to demonstrate that their claims that the general function of literature is to change a reader's schemata are logically difficult to sustain, difficult to demonstrate empirically and counter-intuitive for many experiences of reading literature. Two poems are considered as examples of 'schema-affirmation': the identification in a text of prior knowledge or experience which is rarely or never publicly articulated in that genre. It is claimed that this is a common experience for readers of literary works, particularly for those who in some way feel themselves oppressed or alienated by the mainstream culture. It is suggested that the ability to read simultaneously from a number of viewpoints should become the foundation of any model of textual meaning, and that readers' tendency to construct what they see as the 'intended' meaning is not necessarily affected by their other or alternative readings. The need for empirical work investigating these phenomena is acknowledged and it is suggested that reader-response studies could be adapted to this end.

We originally isolated the Df31 protein from Drosophila embryo extracts as a factor which could decondense Xenopus sperm, by removing the sperm specific proteins and interacting with histones to facilitate their loading onto DNA. We now believe that this protein has a more general function in cellular DNA metabolism. The Df31 gene encodes a very hydrophilic protein with a predicted molecular mass of 18.5 kDa. Immunostaining showed that Df31 was present in a wide range of cell types throughout differentiation and in both dividing and non-dividing cells. In all cases the protein is present in large amounts, comparable with the level of nucleosomes. Injection of antisense oligonucleotides to lower the level of Df31 in embryos caused severe disruption of the nuclear structure. Large irregular clumps of DNA were formed, and in most cases the amount of DNA associated with each clump was more than that found in a normal nucleus. Immunofluorescence, cell fractionation, and formaldehyde cross-linking show that Df31 is associated with chromatin and that a significant fraction of it binds very tightly. It also shows the same binding characteristics when loaded onto chromatin in vitro. Chromatin fractionation shows that Df31 is tightly associated with nucleosomes, preferentially with oligonucleosomes. Despite this no differences were observed in the properties of nucleosomes loaded in the in vitro system in the presence and absence of Df31. These results suggest that Df31 has a role in chromosomal structure, most likely acting as a structural protein at levels of folding higher than that of nucleosomes.

Since the first introduction of the concept of a matrix, questions about functions of matrices have had the attention of many writers, starting with Cayley(i) in 1858, and Laguerre(2) in 1867. In 1883, Sylvester(3) defined a general function φ(a) of a matrix a with simple characteristic roots, by use of Lagrange's interpolation formula, and Buchheim (4), in 1886, extended his definition to the case of multiple characteristic roots. Then Weyr(5) showed in 1887 that, for a matrix a with characteristic roots lying inside the circle of convergence of a power series φ(ζ), the power series φ(a) is convergent; and in 1900 Poincaré (6) obtained the formulaefor the sum, where C is a circle lying in and concentric with the circle of convergence, and containing all the characteristic roots in its ulterior, such a formula having effectively been suggested by Frobenius(7) in 1896 for defining a general function of a matrix. Phillips (8), in 1919, discovered the analogue, for power series in matrices, of Taylor's theorem. In 1926 Hensel(9) completed the result of Weyr by showing that a necessary and sufficient condition for the convergence of φ(a) is the convergence of the derived series φ(r)(α) (0 ≼ r < mα; α) at each characteristic root α of a, of order r at most the multiplicity mα of α. In 1928 Giorgi(10) gave a definition, depending on the classical canonical decomposition of a matrix, which is equivalent to the contour integral formula, and Fantappie (11) developed the theory of this formula, and obtained the expressionfor the characteristic projectors.

A theory of multiplicative functions and Prym differentials for the case of special characters on compact Riemann surfaces has found applications in geometrical function theory of complex variable, analytical number theory and in equations of mathematical physics. Theory of functions on compact Riemann surfaces differs from the theory of functions on finite Riemann surfaces even for the class of single meromorphic functions and Abelian differentials. In this article we continue the construction of the general function theory on finite Riemann surfaces for multiplicative meromorphic functions and differentials. We have proved analogues of the theorem on the full sum of residues for Prym differentials of every integral order and P. Appell's formula on expansion of the multiplicative function with poles of arbitrary multiplicity in the sum of elementary Prym integrals.
