Contemporary society is actively engaged into technology innovations due to their multi-purposeful usage for personal, professional and educational reasons. Many new terms defining information communication technologies appear but the paper focuses on the interactive media, which may be considered as an integral part of the phenomenon. It is aimed to analyze and discuss the possibilities of integration of interactive media into language learning process to support the efficiency of the study process taking into consideration the needs and achievements of students. The lectures organized with traditional teaching material are getting old-fashioned gradually; therefore, new trends appear in the education process and technologies have to be successfully integrated by the teachers working in higher education institutions. Currently life pace is extremely fast, and rapid changes influence the life of young people who want to be well-educated and prepared for the further professional career. The research was organized to investigate whether the students of higher education institution demonstrate willingness to integrate interactive media into language learning process, i.e. students do not have to be passive users but actively apply and use interactive media in the learning process. Consequently, the teachers have to be familiar with the opportunities provided by the interactive media and acknowledge the necessity of its integration, but still some considerations and uncertainty exist. The methods used for the research are as follows: analysis of the scientific literature sources, content analysis, and questionnaires. Findings of the research are formulated after analysis of the collected data and they revealed the capabilities of the students to use interactive media and perception of the importance and usefulness of such measures.Majority of teachers demonstrate conservative attitude towards innovations and implementation of modern teaching/learning methods, but the situation will be improved putting the efforts in order to seek positive learning outcomes and modernize the study process.

Lately, distance studies, which are attempting at the best possible education for students and satisfaction of as many of their study needs as possible, are gaining wider popularity. Online questionnaires are increasingly used to get detailed opinions of distance learning students on various issues of studies. During the project EURASIA, it was identified that VEBER online questionnaire can be a useful tool for VGTU beyond the scope of the project EURASIA. An online questionnaire has been developed to facilitate the process of surveying related to implementation of the project EURASIA. The assessments helped to recognise that this tool helps VGTU to enhance its institutional system related to e‐learning. Having identified the potential of this tool outside the scope of the EURASIA to project, further experiments have been carried out to assess how this tool can be further developed to accommodate the requirements of the project EURASIA other institutional systems. The research showed that distance learning students not only want to express their opinion about the study process, but also to be active participants in shaping strategic alternatives of the study process by electronic means. In order to implement this idea, the authors proposed the Web‐based Model of Multiple Criteria Ethical Decision‐Making for Ethical Behaviour of Students and used as a basis to develop the Ethical Web‐Based Decision Support System (E‐DS). Using the features of the VEBER online questionnaire, the developed Model and the E‐DS System, the process of distance learning can be additionally humanized and adjusted to ethical norms, which would have a positive effect on the whole distance learning process. Thus, the institutions participating in the project EURASIA or offering distance learning studies could use the features of VEBER online questionnaire, the developed Model and the E‐DS System in their activities. It would stimulate more efficient application of moral norms in the distance learning process.

The Analysis of Distance Education Users NeedsLeonidas Sakalauskas, Saulius Preidys SummaryDifferent users are participating in distance learning process: teachers (tutors), distance course creators, auditors, VLE administrators. The quality of such studies depends on all of these groups: module developed qualitatively will be convenient for the learner and helpful for the tutor. All the study process depends on the administrator’s activities: if server is working with breaks, studies can become unpredictable and not attractive. In this article the needs of different user groups are analysed and conditions are created for the programming agent development which can improve distance education process.ight: 18px;">

Formulating questions is an integral part of pupils’ learning process and scientific inquiry. Investigating pupil-generated questions in a collaborative science learning setting, combining self-regulation theory and phases of inquiry, can extend the previous research into pupils’ questions. This study considered questions from pupils (n = 24, aged 11–12) as types of interaction to share and reflect on both their own and others’ ideas during a collaborative open inquiry. The study was qualitative in nature. The data was collected by making video recordings of pupils’ team discussions during the study process in 12 science lessons. A content analysis demonstrates that through their questions, the pupils were actively involved in guiding their work from various points of views. These results suggest that fifth graders can successfully conduct a complex open inquiry in teams. Consequently, this study underlines that allowing pupils to work at their own pace, and to take responsibility for their learning, opportunities can arise for pupils to pose questions and regulate their learning through questions.

In the recent years, the higher education has become widely available to society in many countries in the world, and the enrolment numbers in universities have increased also in Latvia, but the number of obtained qualifications or degrees differ significantly, as well as the percentage of involvement in the exact science study programmes remains low. The author draws attention to students' broad skills as one of the possible preconditions for sustainable studies and concludes that the transversal skills that have been acquired in the learning process and defined in the general education standards largely correspond to a broad skills needed by the students. The acquisition of transversal skills in the learning process, as it is set out in the general education standards of all grades, could be sufficient for starting studies and acquiring a qualification or a degree, however, the reasons for termination of studies are related to the level of acquisition of transversal skills. The results of several studies demonstrate the impact of art for creating an environment and conditions leading to improved academic, social and behavioural study outcomes. In turn, arts therapy, which has its origins in art, psychology and psychotherapy and is based on a holistic approach, focuses on the growth and development of the individual in all areas of human experience: intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual. The results obtained in the theoretical study highlight the need for further theoretical and empirical research on the improvement of transversal skills in the higher education process and on the use of the pedagogical aspect of arts and arts therapy in the improvement of transversal skills in the higher education study process.
