Creating an English learning environment in which learners are highly motivated is sometimes very challenging for EFL teachers. Folktales can be useful for facilitating learners in their competence of English language and also for enhancing their cross-cultural awareness. In the field of language teaching, the richness and potential of folktales seems to have been under-utilized in today’s language classes. This paper explores how folktales can be used as a medium of improving students’ reading skills and major benefits in using folktales for teaching English.  A classroom action research was employed to attain the purpose of this study in which two cyclic learning sessions were conducted to improve English learners’ reading skills. Several selected Indonesian folktales were intensively utilized in reading classes. This result of this study indicates that use of folktales by EFL teachers could improve student’ reading skill and widen their vocabulary and at the same time, culture is acquired by the students.

Abstract The aim of this study is to unveil English learners’ beliefs and emotions regarding the English language education received in Catalan schools. For that purpose, data from 5 focus groups with 31 university students have been analysed through a combination of MCA and small stories analysis. The findings reveal that the participants are dissatisfied with the English language education provided, and they believe that the teachers and/or the system are to blame for their (low) level of English. In the main story analysed, boredom, demotivation, irritation and frustration are emotions attached to English learning in high school, which are also present in most of our subjects’ small stories; it is the repetition (iterativity) of small stories, beliefs and emotions across participants that leads us to the detection of a discourse of victimhood, by which students identify themselves as the victims of their English teachers and/or the education system.

As a universal language in the world, English has become a necessary language communication tool under the globalization of trade. Intelligent, efficient, and reasonable English language-assisted learning system helps to further improve the English ability of language learners. English online learning dictionary, as an important query tool for English learners, is an important part of English online learning. This paper will optimize the design of English online learning dictionary system based on multiagent architecture. Based on the hybrid multiagent cooperative algorithm, this paper will improve the disadvantages of the online English learning dictionary system and propose an appropriate dictionary application evaluation function. At the same time, an improved reinforcement learning algorithm is introduced into the corresponding English online learning dictionary navigation problem so as to improve the efficiency of the online English learning dictionary system. English online learning dictionary is more intelligent and efficient. In this paper, the new online learning dictionary system optimization algorithm is proposed and compared with the traditional system algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm proposed in this paper solves the collaborative confusion problem of English learning online dictionary to a certain extent and further solves the corresponding navigation problem so as to improve the efficiency.
