Smart cities provide citizens with smart and advanced services to improve their quality of life. However, it has been observed that the collection, storage, processing, and analysis of heterogeneous data that are usually borne by citizens will bear certain difficulties. The development of the Internet of Things, cloud computing, social media, and other Industry 4.0 influencers pushed technology into a smart society’s framework, bringing potential vulnerabilities to sensor data, services, and smart city applications. These vulnerabilities lead to data security problems. We propose a decentralized data management system for smart and secure transportation that uses blockchain and the Internet of Things in a sustainable smart city environment to solve the data vulnerability problem. A smart transportation mobility system demands creating an interconnected transit system to ensure flexibility and efficiency. This article introduces prior knowledge and then provides a Hyperledger Fabric-based data architecture that supports a secure, trusted, smart transportation system. The simulation results show the balance between the blockchain mining time and the number of blocks created. We also use the average transaction delay evaluation model to evaluate the model and to test the proposed system’s performance. The system will address residents’ and authorities’ security challenges of the transportation system in smart, sustainable cities and lead to better governance.

Smart city has come a long way since the development of emerging technology like Information and communications technology (ICT), Internet of Things (IoT), Machine Learning (ML), Block chain and Artificial Intelligence. The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is an important application in a rapidly growing smart city. Prediction of the automotive accident severity plays a very crucial role in the smart transportation system. The main motive behind this research is to determine the specific features which could affect vehicle accident severity. In this paper, some of the classification models, specifically Logistic Regression, Artificial Neural network, Decision Tree, K-Nearest Neighbors, and Random Forest have been implemented for predicting the accident severity. All the models have been verified, and the experimental results prove that these classification models have attained considerable accuracy. The paper also explained a secure communication architecture model for secure information exchange among all the components associated with the ITS. Finally paper implemented web base Message alert system which will be used for alert the users through smart IoT devices.

In recent times Automation is emerging every day and bloomed in every sector. Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) is one of the important branches of Automation. The major constrain in the transportation system is traffic congestion. This slurps the individual’s time and consequently pollutes the environment. A centralized management is required for optimizing the transportation system. The current traffic condition is predicted by evaluating the historical data and thereby it reduces the traffic congestion. The periodic update of traffic condition in each and every street of the city is obtained and the data is transferred to the autonomous vehicle. These data are obtained from the simulation results of transportation prediction tool SUMO. It is proved that our proposed work reduces the traffic congestion and maintains ease traffic flow and preserves the fleet management.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a platform that makes a device smart such that every day communication becomes more informative. A Smart Transportation system basically consists of three components which include smart roads, smart vehicles and a smart parking system. Smart roads are used to describe roads that use sensors and IoT technology which makes driving safer and greener. Smart parking system involves an automated system model that can assist the drivers in selecting the suitable parking spot for them. The data that the system collects will be sent for some analysis. It provides real time information to drivers about various aspects of transportation like weather conditions, traffic scenario, road safety, parking space, and many other things. A well-built Smart Transportation system reduces the risk of accidents, improves safety, increases capacity, reduces fuel consumption, and enhances overall comfort and performance for drivers. Our chapter deals with the in-depth discussion of these various aspects of a smart transportation system enabled with IoT technology.
