Summary. The aim is to determine the efficiency of diagnostics of the enteric insufficiency syndrome severity in peritonitis by phase mapping of microscopic images of histological sections of the laboratory rats’ small intestine. Material and methods. Seventy-eight white nonlinear rats of both sexes were selected, weighing from 180 to 220 g, underwent simulated mild, moderate and severe experimental peritonitis according to the standard method. Samples of optically thin histological sections of the small intestine of rats with different severity of the course of peritonitis were used as the research object. Results. As a result of the study, a structural and logical scheme for studying the effectiveness of differential diagnosis of the severity of peritonitis by means of statistical analysis of the structure of the distribution of phases of microscopic images of biological preparations of rats was developed, which helped to determine the relationships between the distribution of statistical parameters of the 1st–4th orders, which characterize phase maps depending on the severity of the peritonitis course. Conclusion. The revealed changes in the statistical structure of phase maps fully correlate with the measurement data for the polarization phase manifestations of the properties of the polycrystalline component of histological sections, both in the case of the phase measurement of polycrystalline blood films and the wall of the small intestine.

The analysis of surgical treatment of 208 victims with isolated abdominal trauma was performed. In 33,2% of them during the first 7 days the occurrence of the syndrome of enteric insufficiency syndrome (SEN) was confirmed, in particular in 14,2% with blunt trauma and in 62,1% with penetrating. The 37 factors of development of SEN were evaluated. The statistically significant criteria for the development of enteric insufficiency syndrome in patients with abdominal trauma during the first 7 days were time from the moment of injury to the operation for more than 12 hours; pancreatic injury; the presence of multiple lesions of both the small and large intestine. Also signs of the development of dynamic bowel obstruction, which manifested in the absence of spontaneous peristalsis of the small intestine and its dilation of more than 4 cm.Keywords:abdominal trauma, enteric insufficiency syndrome, criteria of enteric insufficiency syndrome

Background. The study of hystomorphology of liver and small intestine in experimental peritonitis is presented. Due to this information the criterion of pathogenetic moment transition SIRS for peritoneal sepsis was determined.Objective. The aim of the research was to study the morphology of terminal part of small intestine and liver in cases of experimental peritonitis.Methods. For histological and electron microscope study the biopsy of liver, small intestine were taken; the samples were stabilized in a neutral formalin, dried in alcohol of increasing concentration and placed in paraffin. Paraffin sections were painted with hematoxylin and eosin and studied under the light-optical microscope.Results. Apoptosis caused damage to enterocytes and hepatocytes of first bacterial translocation. Mechanism of vasodilatation effect of NO and its effect on apoptosis were determined. Septic shock was accompaniment of two main levels of body cells damage: apoptosis and membranes destruction. Peritoneal sepsis is a grave condition caused by progressive peritonitis and polyorgan insufficiency syndrome. The phases of peritonealis sepsis pathogenesis were defined.Conclusions. The presented morphological criteria prove the initiation of apoptosis within 24 hours after the development of peritonitis in enterocytes and hepatocytes.

Evidence for ordering (1-6) of interstitial impurities (O and C) has been obtained in b.c.c. metals, such as niobium and tantalum. In this paper we report the atomic and microstructural changes in an oxygenated c.p.h. metal (alpha titanium) as observed by transmission electron microscopy and diffraction.Oxygen was introduced into zone-refined iodide titanium sheets of 0.005 in. thickness in an atmosphere of oxygen and argon at 650°C, homogenized at 800°C and furnace-cooled in argon. Subsequently, thin foils were prepared by electrolytic polishing and examined in a JEM-7 electron microscope, operated at 100 KV.

ATEM has been used to characterize three different silicon nitride materials after tensile creep in air at 1200 to 1400° C. In Part I, the microstructures and microstructural changes that occur during testing were described, and consistent with that description the designations and sintering aids for these materials were: W/YAS, a SiC whisker reinforced Si3N4 processed with yttria (6w/o) and alumina (1.5w/o); YAS, Si3N4 processed with yttria (6 w/o) and alumina (1.5w/o); and YS, Si3N4 processed with yttria (4.0 w/o). This paper, Part II, addresses the interfacial cavitation processes that occur in these materials and which are ultimately responsible for creep rupture.

The elemental composition of amino acids is similar to that of the major structural components of the epithelial cells of the small intestine and other tissues. Therefore, their subcellular localization and concentration measurements are not possible by x-ray microanalysis. Radioactive isotope labeling: I131-tyrosine, Se75-methionine and S35-methionine have been successfully employed in numerous absorption and transport studies. The latter two have been utilized both in vitro and vivo, with similar results in the hamster and human small intestine. Non-radioactive Selenomethionine, since its absorption/transport behavior is assumed to be the same as that of Se75- methionine and S75-methionine could serve as a compound tracer for this amino acid.

Trichinella spiralis induces a profound mastocytosis and eosinophilia in the small intestine of the infected mouse. Mouse mast cells (MC) store in their granules various combinations of at least five chymotryptic chymases [designated mouse MC protease (mMCP) 1 to 5], two tryptic proteases designated mMCP-6 and mMCP-7 and an exopeptidase, carboxypeptidase A (mMC-CPA). Using antipeptide, protease -specific antibodies to these MC granule proteases, immunohistochemistry was done to determine the distribution, number and protease phenotype of the MCs in the small intestine and spleen 10 to >60 days after Trichinella infection of BALB/c and C3H mice. TEM was performed to evaluate the granule morphology of the MCs between intestinal epithelial cells and in the lamina propria (mucosal MCs) and in the submucosa, muscle and serosa of the intestine (submucosal MCs).As noted in the table below, the number of submucosal MCs remained constant throughout the study. In contrast, on day 14, the number of MCs in the mucosa increased ~25 fold. Increased numbers of MCs were observed between epithelial cells in the mucosal crypts, in the lamina propria and to a lesser extent, between epithelial cells of the intestinal villi.
