Quail (Coturnix-coturnix japonica) including poultry that has the potential to be developed but in increasing production is still constrained by the problem of seeds, feed, and post-harvest processing. Not yet utilized durian seeds as a source of local feed ingredients which is very potential for quail cattle. Besides the low understanding of partners about the nutritional needs of quails and post-harvest processing. This Community Service Program (Program Pengabdian Masyarakat/PKM) aims to overcome the problems of seed and quail seed quality obtained, utilizing durian seed waste for quail feed and post-harvest processing of male quail. The activity has been carried out for 8 (eight) months from March to October 2018 in the “Usaha Ternak Maju Group” and the “Kasih Ibu” Orphanage group in the form of socialization, counseling, training, and demonstrations as well as making a demonstration plot. PKM activities have been going well with the two partners shown by the use of durian seed-based feed ingredients to increase quail livestock production. Both partners have understood hatchery management, quail maintenance management, durian seed flour making technology and management of ration preparation using durian seed flour and male quail processing.

(Egg productions of quails fed the commercial rations partially substituted by fermentation feed ingredients based on the mixture of Leubim fish waste meal and Indigofera sp.) ABSTRACT. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the partial substitution of commercial ration with fermented feed ingredients based on leubim fish (Canthidermis maculata) waste meal and Indigofera sp. meal on the appearance of quail egg production. The research was conducted at the Field Laboratory of Animal Husbandry, Animal Husbandry Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Syiah Kuala University for 10 weeks. The study used 80 female quails (Coturnix-coturnix japonica) at 4 weeks of age. The study was designed into randomized block design consisting of 4 treatments and 4 blocks. Each block was an experimental unit, each consisting of 5 quails. The treatment was commercial ration of laying hens partially substituted by fermented feed ingredients composed of 20% leubim fish waste meal + 11% Indigofera sp. meal + 45.4% broken rice + 20% corn bran + 3.6% clam shell meal as many as 0, 10, 20, and 30%. The results of study showed that commercial ration of laying hens could be substituted up to 30% with a mixture of fermented feed ingredients composed of 20% leubim fish waste meal +11% Indigofera sp. meal + 45.4% broken rice + 20% corn bran + 3.6% clam shell meal without significantly reduced egg production, egg weight, and egg mass, feed consumption and FCR, and final body weight and average body weight gain of quails.

The purpose of this study was to determine how the effect of giving rubber seed flour to the production and weight of quail eggs. Includes ration consumption, egg production, egg weight, and feed conversion, which this research was carried out in this research has been carried out Tanjung Sanai II Village, Kec. Ulak Tanding Padang. This research was experimental and carried out using factorial randomized complete variance analysis (RAL) consisting of 6 treatment levels and 4 replications and each treatment consisted of 4 quails. The treatment used is: P0: 100% Commercial ration without rubber seed flour, P1: 94% Commercial ration + 6% rubber seed flour, P2: 91% Commercial ration + 9% rubber seed flour, P3: 88% Commercial ration + 12% rubber seed flour, P4: 85% Commercial ration + 15% rubber seed flour, P5: 82% Commercial ration + 18% rubber seed flour. The results of this study used the rate of addition of rubber seed flour as much as 18% from the ration given, and significantly affected the conversion of rations and did not significantly affect ration consumption, egg production and egg weight.

The study aims to determine the impact of dietary crude protein levels on the hematological parameters of Japanese quail from growth to ovipositor. To this end, five feeds with different crude protein levels (18, 20, 22, 24 and 26%) were supplied to 700 quails of three weeks of age. These were subdivided into six batches, including three batches of females and three batches of males for each feed group. After subjecting the quails to diets containing the different protein levels, four samples were taken at the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh week of age. The samples taken were analyzed using an SYSMEX XN 350 automated hematological analyzer. The results of this investigation indicated that non-significant differences (P > 0.05) were observed in hematological parameters in both female and male quails. This study showed that dietary crude protein levels had no impact on the health status of Japanese quails. Keywords: Japanese quails, Crude protein, Hematological parameters.

Livestock-associated MRSA (LA-MRSA) is a zoonotic pathogen that has been reported in several animals, and it is often associated with clonal complex (CC) 398. We aimed to isolate MRSA from quails and to characterize their antimicrobial resistance and genetic lineages. One hundred swab samples were recovered from quails at the slaughterhouse. The swabs were inoculated onto CHROMagar™ MRSA agar plates for MRSA isolation. The presence of antimicrobial-resistant genes and virulence factors was investigated by PCR. All strains were typed by MLST, SCCmec-, spa- and agr-typing. From the 100 samples, 29 MRSA were isolated. All strains were resistant to penicillin, cefoxitin, ciprofloxacin, erythromycin and clindamycin and carried the blaZ, mecA, ermB and ermC genes. All strains, except one, showed resistance to tetracycline and harbored the tetM, tetK and tetL genes in different combinations. Twenty strains belonged to ST398 and SCCmec type V, and nine strains belonged to the new ST6831. Twenty-eight out of twenty-nine strains were ascribed to t011 and one to t108. As far as we know, this is the first report of MRSA from quails slaughtered for human consumption. Most strains belonged to ST398-t011, which is the most common LA-MRSA clone found in livestock in Europe.
