This study aimed at evaluating the General Diploma Program from the point view of student teachers of the academic year 2004/2005. The sample consisted of 210 students in different specializations. Data were collected using a questionnaire comprising 44 items subsumed under seven dimensions. The instrument was validated by a panel of experts and its internal consistency was (0.92). The following are the major findings of the study. First, diploma students are convinced of their selection of teaching as a profession. Second, the diploma program positively developed students’ attitudes towards teaching. Third, the program was highly effective in developing student teachers' teaching skills and moderately effective in developing their research and technology skills. Fourth, students reported that they highly benefited from 5 courses; while their benefit from the other courses was moderate. Fifth, there were statistically significant differences in students' views that can be attributed to their majors. Sixth, there were no statistically significant differences in students' views due to their gender. Finally, students were satisfied with their relationship with professors and college administrators; but they were not satisfied with computer and library services.

The results of many scientific studies indicate the importance of emotional intelligence in different aspects of life (professional and educational life). Therefore, educational institutions paid attention to it and this interest is represented in the development of its programs to include the emotional and social aspects. The aim of the research is to identify the relationship between emotional intelligence skills and the trend toward life, and to indicate whether the trend towards life can be predicted through emotional intelligence skills, and which of these skills are more significant in influencing the direction of life. The measurement tools were (Emotional Intelligence Skills Scale - A measure of the direction towards life). The research sample consisted of (210) students from the College of Education at Sultan Qaboos University in the academic year 2016-2017. The results of the study indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence skills and life orientation. The value of (P) was 15.343. which is a statistical function at the level of (0.01), indicating the effectiveness of predicting the impact of emotional intelligence skills, which is the subject of research on the trend towards life. The results also show that the skill (understanding others’ emotions interacting with others) was the most influential factor in the direction of life.

This paper aims to suggest a strategy for employing cooperative learning in situations where traditional methods are of great domination. It also explores tertiary students' attitudes toward cooperative learning. Furthermore, it checks the relationship between the total group achievement and its individual members'. Students' creativity is also another concern of this study. The sample of this study is third-year students at college of education Al-Mahra, Hadhramout University for the academic year 2017-2018. The study uses a mixed-methods research design (qualitative and quantitative) by observing the students' performances on the use of the teaching method principles applied by them and their creativity in selecting the materials for applying the chosen teaching method. Questionnaire is also used at the end of the semester to find out students' attitudes about using cooperative learning. The study found that cooperative learning plays good roles in reflecting what the students have studied to their mates. Moreover, the study revealed that there is strong relationship between group degree of success and its members' achievement in the final term scores in the course. Depending on the findings, the researcher concludes that whenever students are given the chance to select their learning habits, creativity appears

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to answer the question, what progress student teachers make during one academic year, while being trained in a professional learning community, using objective classroom observation, using lesson preparation templates that match their developmental stage and stage-focused mentor feedback. Design/methodology/approach The teaching skills of the student teachers (n=101) were measured at the start and at the end of the academic year. For the measurements, the standardized and psychometrically tested International Comparative Analysis of Learning and Teaching observation instrument is used. Findings The student teachers achieved a small growth on the basic teaching skills and a medium growth on two of the three advanced skills for teachers. Research limitations/implications Because of the lack of a control group, causal conclusions cannot be made. This research provides knowledge on the actual observed level of teaching skills of student teachers trained in a close collaborating professional learning community. Originality/value Little is known about the actual growth of observable teaching skills of student teachers in elementary education. Teacher training colleges and internship schools in the Netherlands are in search of better ways to collaborate more closely in order to improve the quality of teaching of their student teachers. These findings can inspire teacher training communities to improve their own teaching quality and the teaching quality of their student teachers.

Sultan Qaboos University implemented a project for adopting a learner-centered methodology in the preparation program of the teacher-trainees of English at the College of Education. The learning materials package used in the project was developed as a result of the collaboration of two parities: Sultan Qaboos University and the American Partnership Initiative represented by Seward Incorporated. In the package, two independent variables have been manipulated: (1) the principles of the learner-centered method and the e-learning Moodle platform. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of this project. To this end, two research tools (an achievement test and a student attitudinal feedback form) were developed, validated and applied to 150 ELT student teachers divided into four experimental groups and three control groups. The students in the experimental groups cover the developed package whereas those in the control groups cover the same topics in the package adopting the traditional method, (i.e. lecturing and face-to-face teaching). Preliminary indicators and views of the participants (faculty and students) show that the project is effective and successful for more than one reason: (1) involving students in active learning processes and tasks, (2) minimizing the use of lectures as the principle mode of instruction, (3) giving students increased ownership of their learning, (4) fostering team work and cooperative learning, and (5) manipulating technology and e-learning efficiently. Numerating these benefits, however, does not mean the absence of problems to do with the quantity of the readings and assignments, use of technology, and the nature of the tasks accompanying the topics.

Many educators view makerspaces as a means of increasing student engagement in K-12 classrooms. As faculty and staff of the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan, we have noted low comfort levels in using and experimenting with technology. For this reason, we decided to create a place in which pre-service teachers could test and discuss technologies that they could eventually use in their teaching practice. Our endeavor eventually morphed into a space for current teachers, student teachers, technical support staff, faculty members, and interested community members. Having piloted workshops for six months, we are now evaluating our decisions and shaping new approaches for the current academic year. Our main challenges include ensuring inclusivity across age, gender, and culture; adopting suitable facilitation styles; and ensuring the workshops lead to useful discussions of technology and teaching practice.
