Abstract Although relatively recent, peach culture has grown great in our country due to the special quality of the fruit, its very complex chemical composition and the large production that can be obtained without much effort. Peach is a species slightly adapted to our climatic conditions, suffers from winter frost, but can provide productive and long productions of 10-15 years.

During dry seasons, equines are traditionally fed hay. However, if not prepared under favorable climatic conditions and if not properly stored, hay does not preserve its nutritional value. The aim of this research was to evaluate the chemical composition in Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Mineirão and Estilosantes Campo Grande hay varieties, used to feed equines over 225 days of storage. Treatments consisted of Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Mineirão and Estilosantes Campo Grande hay varieties, assessed at six moments of storage: 0, 45, 90, 135, 180, and 225 days. The experiment followed a completely randomized split-plot design. In the comparison between varieties, differences (P0.05) over the 225 days of storage. The storage period had little impact on the nutritional quality of the assessed hays. The Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Mineirão and, mainly, Estilosantes Campo Grande hay varieties have potential to be used in equine diet.

Tourmaline is one of the most widespread minerals in nature and one of the most popular gems and promising piezoelectric material. The growth of large crystals is today a topical task. With the growth of tourmaline single crystals appears problems associated with its complex chemical composition, high chemical stability in hydrothermal solutions and a low growth rate. The paper reviews of recent work on the tourmaline synthesis and the results obtained in IEM RAS.

Propolis is a product of varied consistency and colour, produced by bees from materials collected from various parts of the plants. It has a complex chemical composition, which depends on the regional flora. Therefore, there are various types of propolis, making comparison between them a difficult task. In the present study, a survey of studies with propolis from the state of Bahia, Brazil, was carried out. We identified 17 scientific papers and eight patents dealing with propolis produced in Bahia. In these works three amongst the 13 types of propolis reported in Brazil were listed. Almost all studies report the antimicrobial activity potential of propolis types 6, highlighting its low percentage of flavonoids. It was also noted that the incentive given to the production of propolis type 13 in Bahia, also known as “própolis vermelha”, is due to the overall aggregate value of this product.

In Brazil, Ocimum species are commonly known as aromatic and restorative herbs. The present research aimed to study the chemical composition of the essential oils of fresh and dry basil (Ocimum sp) leaves obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS. The obtained yield was 0.70% for dry leaves and 0.26% for fresh leaves. The major compounds were: linalool (29.50-32.26%) and methyl chavicol (36.81-41.62%). Eucalyptol could also be detected (9.99-7.68%). The oil from dry leaves presented a more complex chemical composition. This study serves to contribute to the knowledge of medicinal plants occurring in Brazil.
