Abstract Food waste accounts for 30% - 50% of domestic waste, and its centralized treatment is difficult. For commercial places with large production of food waste, it is a better way to use grinding mill to crush food waste and then discharge it into sewer. The mechanical properties of grinding plate are the decisive factors affecting the performance of grinding mill. In this paper, the static analysis and modal analysis of the grinding plate of commercial grinding mill are carried out. The results show that: under the rated load, the maximum equivalent stress of grinding hammer is 83.4mpa, the maximum equivalent stress of cutter head is 77.6mpa, which meets the design requirements, but the stress is relatively concentrated. The lowest modal vibration frequency of the lapping plate is 456.2hz, and the lapping plate will not have resonance damage under normal conditions.

AbstractPEM fuel cells are well established in a number of niche markets. However, due to low production volume and manufacturer-specific designs, the assembly has been carried out manually most of the time. With new fields of application being exploited there is a rising demand for production systems. As there is no standardized design or material, production systems are often custom-made, thus being inflexible to design changes or different products. In combination with a volatile demand the need for flexible and scalable systems arises. In this paper special attention is paid onto pick and place operations of the catalyst coated membrane (CCM). Design criteria of a vacuum gripper are derived from the material properties. To meet the further requirements for a high position accuracy in an automated assembly the impact of process parameters onto the repeatability is investigated to identify optimization trends. The requirements and investigations lead to a conceptual assembly system that is able to cover several steps in fuel cell production.

AbstractFor its third installment, the Data Science Challenge of the 19th symposium “Database Systems for Business, Technology and Web” (BTW) of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) tackled the problem of predictive energy management in large production facilities. For the first time, this year’s challenge was organized as a cooperation between Technische Universität Dresden, GlobalFoundries, and ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig. The Challenge’s participants were given real-world production and energy data from the semiconductor manufacturer GlobalFoundries and had to solve the problem of predicting the energy consumption for production equipment. The usage of real-world data gave the participants a hands-on experience of challenges in Big Data integration and analysis. After a leaderboard-based preselection round, the accepted participants presented their approach to an expert jury and audience in a hybrid format. In this article, we give an overview of the main points of the Data Science Challenge, like organization and problem description. Additionally, the winning team presents its solution.

In the vast literature of Bengal famine of 1943, it is hard to offer new insights about that vicious source of mass misery. Local history may mark a significant departure here, as it provides scope for an in-depth study of both the origin and course of the famine. Bakarganj was called the granary of Bengal, which used to supply rice to other regions even in the driest years due to its large production. But the famine of 1943 gravely affected this district. The present study shows how it was the colonial measures that played a vital role in intensifying the famine in Bakarganj. The government’s led to: hoarding of rice and serious shortage of food supply. The article concentrates on four aspects of the government failure: inappropriate warning system, callous purchase policy, lack of effective government inspection and a policy of disaster denial.

Significant changes that are currently taking place in the external environment are objective prerequisites for emergence of new management methods that predetermine the practical period of transition of enterprises from strategic planning to strategic management (transfer of thinking based on the future to the thinking based on the present following the principle «here and now»).So, for example, large production structures focus on stability, therefore they react slowly to changes in the external environment, take little risks, and tend to traditional solutions. Modifying options developed at large enterprises are developing what is, as well as complementing and differentiating the existing situation, where the limited possibilities of any kind of evolution of any system can exist solely within its limits.Efficiency reflects the results of development, but is not identical with the results, because no saving of some factors of production can be achieved without additional costs of others. The strategy turns here into real one only if it based on the concept of developing new specific products or processes subject to the following indicator of progress: the maximum earned with the minimum of expenditures.The objective of the study is to identify modern regulatory factors in social systems in transport sector concealed in the goals and risks of such activities, while the main object of study is road transportation. The article uses methods of theoretical and empirical research in relation to goals and risks that can be determined and observed in the activities of transport sociotechnical systems.Goals and risks are defined as factors that allow regulating key performance indicators of socio-technical systems that affect their effectiveness.

The mud crab Scylla paramamosain is an important euryhaline mariculture species. However, acute decreases in salinity seriously impact its survival and can result in large production losses. In this study, we evaluated metabolic changes in S. paramamosain exposed to an acute salinity reduction from 23 psu to 3 psu. After the salinity decrease, hemolymph osmolality declined from 726.75 to 642.38 mOsm/kg H2O, which was close to the physiological equilibrium state. Activities of osmolality regulation-related enzymes in the gills, including Na+-K+-ATPase, CA, and V-ATPase all increased. Using LC-MS analysis, we identified 519 metabolites (mainly lipids). Additionally, 13 significant metabolic pathways (P < 0.05) were identified via enrichment analysis, which were mainly related to signal pathways, lipids, and transportation. Our correlation analysis, which combined LC-MS and previous GC-MS data, yielded 28 significant metabolic pathways. Amino acids and energy metabolism accounted for most of these pathways, and lipid metabolism pathways were insignificant. Our results showed that amino acids and energy metabolism were the dominant factors involved in the adaptation of S. paramamosain to acute salinity decrease, and lipid metabolites played a supporting role.

Abstract This research was focused on the effects of micromycetes on cement composites with 100% replacement of natural aggregate by the recycled glass from photovoltaic panels. The experiment was performed on samples of small beams measuring 40 x 40 x 8 mm (length x width x height) and cement crumbling with recycled glass from photovoltaic panels in percentages representing 10%, 20% and 40%. The representatives of the selected micromycetes were Aspergillus niger, A. clavatus, Penicillium glabrum, Cladosporium sp. and Zygomycetes sp. Biocorrosion causes changes in the properties of the material, mainly as a result of the action of microorganisms. Due to their large production of acids and enzymes, micromycetes are an important part of microscopic consortia involved in biocorrosion. This experiment focused on evaluating the effect of micromycetes on cement composites – solid structure and crumbling, with 100% replacement of natural aggregate with photovoltaic glass recyclate. The results show a high growth of biomass on solid composites, while on cement crumbling, the growth was minimal due to high pH value. Longer monitoring time was used in case of adaptation to the environment.

The liquid fermentation of Antrodia cinnamomea is a promising alternative source for fungus production compared to the wildly grown fruiting body. Elicitation is a strong tool to enhance the productivity in microbial cells to obtain more compounds of interest. In this study, in order to improve the fungus growth and its terpenoids production, various vegetable oils were added in the fermentation broth of A. cinnamomea. It was found that corn oil from a group of vegetable oils exhibited the best effect on the biomass and triterpenoid content. After optimization, the initial addition of 1% (v/v) corn oil plus the inoculation of 10% (v/v) mycelia led to a maximum triterpenoid yield (532.3 mg L−1), which was increased as much as fourfold compared to the blank control. Differential transcriptome analysis demonstrated that corn oil significantly enriched several metabolic pathways including glycolysis/gluconeogenesis, propanoate metabolism and transmembrane hydrophobins. The enriched pathways interacted with deferentially expressed genes (DEGs) induced by corn oil treatment. Our research provides a potential strategy for the large production of triterpenoids by the improved fermentation of A. cinnamomea.

Large production of red dragon fruit by-products, which are frequently discarded from food industry has become a major waste problem. Converting this waste into useful products with good physicochemical properties could solve the pollution issues. Thus, a study was carried out to investigate the effect of blanching and drying temperatures on physicochemical properties of red dragon fruit peel powder. Dragon fruit peel was pre-treated with hot water at 90 °C for 2 minutes before being dried in hot air oven dryer at 50 °C, 60 °C and 70 °C. Results showed that the powdered sample of blanched and dried at 50 °C had significantly higher fiber, water activity and moisture content than those of unblanched/blanched and dried at 60 °C and 70 °C. Result also showed that the colour of this powder was similar to the fresh dragon fruit peel. When dried at 50 °C, the unblanched and blanched powders exhibited a slightly higher water solubility index compared to those dried at 60 °C and 70 °C. Based on the evaluation of bulk and tapped densities, all powders having the Carr Index in the range of values between 20 and 28 thus can be categorised as slightly poor flowing. For all conditions studied, powder that was blanched and dried at 50 °C was the best condition as it contained the highest amount of fiber with good physicochemical properties.

Abstract The limitations and new safety restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2 had a strong impact on the functioning of numerous manufacturing companies. This paper presents the results of a survey conducted among employees of manufacturing companies. A preliminary comparison of the production efficiency (and volume) in terms of the size of enterprises was made – results obtained for micro, small and medium entrprise, as well as for large production enterprise. On the basis of the presented results, it was unequivocally stated that it was much easier for micro and small enterprises to adapt to the introduced changes. They easily expanded the range of products and thus recorded a slight increase in production. Large enterprises, due to the narrow scope of their operations, unfortunately recorded a significant decrease in production – which may also be caused by the discontinuity of the supply chain.
