Abstract The present article reports on the first record of Glomeris hexasticha Brandt, 1833 in the area of Lilyaksko Plateau in North-eastern Bulgaria. The species has been found in three of the researched habitats in the region: LP1 – deciduous forest of common hornbeam (C. betulus); in LP2 – coniferous forest of black pine (P. nigra) and in the located nearby Meadow 1 (LP4), covered with wild wheat grass and single shrubs of common rosehip (R. canina). The research of the Myriapoda fauna of the Lilyak Plateau was conducted from May 2017 to April 2018 and G. hexasticha was established only in the period May – August 2017, and a total of 55 individuals (17 males, 17 female) were collected. The largest number of individuals (24) were registered in June 2017 (17 in LP1, 2 in LP2, and 5 in LP4).

Terrestrial isopods are soil macroarthropods that have few known parasites and parasitoids. All known parasitoids are from the family Rhinophoridae (Insecta: Diptera). The present article reviews the known biology of Rhinophoridae flies and presents the first record of Rhinophoridae larvae on a Neotropical woodlouse species. We also compile and update all published interaction records. The Neotropical woodlouseBalloniscusglaberwas parasitized by two different larval morphotypes of Rhinophoridae. Including this new record, there are 18 Isopoda species known to be parasitized and 13 Rhinophoridae species with known hosts, resulting in 35 interactions. There are a total of 53 interaction records from Holarctic and Neotropical countries. Of the 18 known isopod hosts, only five species have more than one parasitoid, including the new Neotropical host record presented in this work.

AbstractTirmizi & Kazmi (1988) reported sixteen majid crabs from Pakistan, later two more species were added (Kazmi & Tirmizi, 1995). In the present paper one species, Menaethiops nodulosus (Nobili), is being recorded for the first time from Pakistan and two species, Menaethiops gadaniensis and Pseudomicippe griffini, are being described as new. Pseudomicippe here presents the first record of the genus for this region. A note is also added on live specimens of Stilbognathus curvicornis (Herbst) previously reported from Pakistan from a dry piece of carapace only. Tirmizi & Kazmi (1988) ont signale du Pakistan seize especes de crabes Majidae, auxquelles se sont ajoutees deux especes supplementaires (Kazmi & Tirmizi, 1995). Dans le present article une espece, Menaethiops nodulosus (Nobili), est signalee pour la premiere fois de Pakistan et deux especes, Menaethiops gadaniensis et Pseudomicippe griffini, sont decrites comme nouvelles. C'est la premiere mention du genre Pseudomicippe dans la region. Une note est aussi ajoutee sur des specimens vivants de Stilbognathus curvicornis (Herbst), espece qui avait ete precedemment signalee de Pakistan seulement d'apres un fragment sec de carapace.

Parafimbrios has been reported in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam. In this paper, based on morphological and molecular data, Parafimbrios lao was reported as the first record of a genus and species of odd-scaled snake in China. This record extends the extent of occurrence to 65,000 km2 and the area of occurrence to 20 km2.

The North-Eastern Altai is an ultra-humid area with climax vegetation represented by tall-herb fir (Abies sibirica) dark-coniferous forest. Its meadows belong to the class Molinio-Arrhenatheretea. The typical asso­ciation Aegopodio podagrariae—Dactyletum glomeratae originates in the watershed clearings after climax forests whereas ass. Hyperici perforati—Agrostietum giganteaereplaces the previous one under mowing and grazing. The Molinietalia wet meadows are widespread in the river valleys. The meadows of ass. Cirsio heterophylli—Calama­grostietum langsdorffii occur on wet soils in small depressions and along floodplain mire margins, and ass. Ca­rici ovalis—Deschampsietum cespitosae comprises typical floodplain hay-meadows on moist, nutrient-rich soils.

The neotropical stink brown bug, Euschistus heros (F.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is an insect pest to soybean crops in Mato Grosso State, Brazil. In this region, synthetic insecticides are frequently used for insect control. An alternative to the indiscriminate use of insecticides is the biological control with parasitoids. Thus, the objective of this study was to conduct the survey of parasitoids that use E. heros adults as hosts. Random samples were conducted during the harvests of 2009/10 and 2010/11 in two farms that produce soybean (conventional system) in Tangará da Serra, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The total number of collected E. heros was: 297 (Field 1) and 293 (Field 2) in 2009/10 and 295 (Field 1) and 376 (Field 2) in 2010/11. Of these, 1.50 (Field 1) and 13.99% (Field 2) were parasitized in 2009/10 and 8.47 (Field 1) and 7.45% (Field 2) in 2010/11. The parasitoids found were Hexacladia smithii Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) in both fields. This is the first record of parasitism in E. heros adults in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.

An investigation of ectoparasites of skates caught off the coast of Lesvos Island, north-eastern Aegean, Greece was performed from May 2010 to February 2012. One parasite, identified as the marine leech Pontobdella muricata, was found on the skin of 0.43% of Raja clavata and 3.6% of Dasyatis pastinaca specimens examined during the investigation period. This is the first record of D. pastinaca as being a host to P. muricata. Macroscopic and microscopic observation of the lesions caused by the parasitism, revealed haemorrhages and swelling of the skin of R. clavata, a milder inflammation of the skin of D. pastinaca, congestion, necrosis and liquefaction of the skin at the site of leech attachment and a lesion with disappearance of upper skin layers after the detachment of the leech.

Soil properties are strongly influenced by the composition of the surrounding vegetation. We investigated soil properties of three ecosystems; a coniferous forest, a deciduous forest and an agricultural grassland, to determine the impact of land use change on soil properties. Disturbances such as deforestation followed by cultivation can severely alter soil properties, including losses of soil carbon. We collected nine 40 cm cores from three ecosystem types on the Roebuck Farm, north of Perth Village, Ontario, Canada. Dominant species in each ecosystem included hemlock and white pine in the coniferous forest; sugar maple, birch and beech in the deciduous forest; grasses, legumes and herbs in the grassland. Soil pH varied little between the three ecosystems and over depth. Soils under grassland vegetation had the highest bulk density, especially near the surface. The forest sites showed higher cation exchange capacity and soil moisture than the grassland; these differences largely resulted from higher organic matter levels in the surface forest soils. Vertical distribution of organic matter varied greatly amongst the three ecosystems. In the forest, more of the organic matter was located near the surface, while in the grassland organic matter concentrations varied little with depth. The results suggest that changes in land cover and land use alters litter inputs and nutrient cycling rates, modifying soil physical and chemical properties. Our results further suggest that conversion of forest into agricultural land in this area can lead to a decline in soil carbon storage.

Zatypota albicoxa (Walker) is newly recorded from Mt. Merapi, Java Is., Indonesia. This is the first record of Z. albicoxa from this part of the Oriental region and from the Southern Hemisphere, and the first record of the genus Zatypota from Southeast Asia. The Indonesian population of Z. albicoxa attacks a theridiid spider of the genus Parasteatoda, as do populations of Z. albicoxa in other regions. The spider is a new species, and is described under the name of Parasteatoda merapiensis.

The Palearctic wool carder bee Anthidium manicatum (Linnaeus) is recorded for the first time in Chile based on eight specimens collected on Lavandula sp. (Lamiaceae) in San Bernardo, Metropolitan Region.  This new record expands the invasive range of this species in South America, confirming previous predictions based on an ecological niche model.
