A new organically templated magnesium sulfate: structure, spectroscopic analysis, and thermal behaviour

AbstractA new magnesium sulfate templated by 2-methylpiperazine, (C5H14N2)[Mg(H2O)6](SO4)2, was prepared by the slow evaporation method. The obtained crystals were investigated by the Raman and FTIR spectroscopy and crystallographically characterised by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The compound crystallises in the monoclinic system, space group P21/n. Supramolecular network of this hybrid material consists of Mg2+ cations octahedrally coordinated by six water molecules, sulfate tetrahedra and protonated and disordered diamine linked together by two types of hydrogen bonds: OW—H…O and N—H…O. Dehydration of the title compound takes place in three steps. Thermal decomposition of the anhydrous phase consists in the loss of the organic moiety and one sulfate group leading to the formation of magnesium sulfate.

The structure of bis(3-Phenylpropylammonium) dichromate(VI) was determined from X-ray diffraction data. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system (space group P21/c) with the lattice parameters: a = 7.9379(2) Å, b = 36.2439(16) Å, c = 7.5753(3) Å; B = 96.069(2); V= 2167.20(14) Å3 and Z = 4. The structure was solved from 4959 independent reflections with R = 0.043 and Rw = 0.105. The structure consists of discrete dichromate anions (Cr2O72-) with eclipsed conformation stacked in layers parallel to (a, c) plane at y = 0 and ½. These anions are linked via the 3-phenylpropylammonium cations by N—H…O and C—H…O hydrogen bonds, forming a two-dimensional supramolecular network. Crystal structure and spectroscopic studies are reported for the bis(3-phenylpropylammonium) dichromate(VI).

One nickel 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate coordination polymers, Ni2 [(O10C6H4)(COO)2].2H2O  (I), was hydrothermally synthesized from an aqueous solution of Ni (NO3)2.6H2O, (1,4-CDC) (1,4-CDC = 1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid) and tetramethylammonium nitrate. Compound (I) crystallizes in the monoclinic system with the C2/m space group. The unit cell parameters are a = 20.1160 (16) Å, b = 9.9387 (10) Å, c = 6.3672 (6) Å, β = 97.007 (3) (°), V= 1263.5 (2) (Å3) and Dx= 1.751g/cm3. The refinement converged into R= 0.036 and RW = 0.092. The structure, determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction, consists of two nickel atoms Ni (1) and Ni (2). Lots of ways of which is surrounded by six oxygen atoms, a carboxyl group and two water molecules.

A stoichiometric complex of formula maleic acid•2H2O•18-crown-6 has been obtained from maleic acid and the macrocyclic polyether 18-crown-6. Crystals of this complex have been shown by X-ray diffraction crystallography to belong to the Cc space group of the monoclinic system. The acid molecules in the adduct are linked to each other through a water molecule, giving infinite [-acid-H2O-]n chains. They are also linked to the crown ether via water molecules. The infrared and Raman spectra of the complex are presented and compared to those of crystalline maleic acid. Keywords: maleic acid/18-crown-6, structure, X-ray, spectra.

The crystal structure of natural diterpenoid alkaloid ranaconitine isolated from Aconitum sinomontanum Nakai has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crystal presents a monoclinic system, space group C2 with Z = 4, unit cell dimensions a = 30.972(19) Å, b = 7.688(5) Å, and c = 19.632(12) Å. Moreover, the intermolecular O–H···O hydrogen bonds and weak π-π interactions play a critical role in expanding the dimensionality.

Two new CdII MOFs, namely, two-dimensional (2D) poly[[[μ2-1,4-bis(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)butane](μ2-heptanedioato)cadmium(II)] tetrahydrate], {[Cd(C7H10O4)(C18H18N4)]·4H2O} n or {[Cd(Pim)(bbimb)]·4H2O} n (1), and 2D poly[diaqua[μ2-1,4-bis(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)butane](μ4-decanedioato)(μ2-decanedioato)dicadmium(II)], [Cd2(C10H16O4)2(C18H18N4)(H2O)2] n or [Cd(Seb)(bbimb)0.5(H2O)] n (2), have been synthesized hydrothermally based on the 1,4-bis(1H-benzimidazol-1-yl)butane (bbimb) and pimelate (Pim2−, heptanedioate) or sebacate (Seb2−, decanedioate) ligands. Both MOFs were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, the CdII centres are connected by bbimb and Pim2− ligands to generate a 2D sql layer structure with an octameric (H2O)8 water cluster. The 2D layers are further connected by O—H...O hydrogen bonds, resulting in a three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structure. In 2, the CdII centres are coordinated by Seb2− ligands to form binuclear Cd2 units which are linked by bbimb and Seb2− ligands into a 2D hxl layer. The 2D layers are further connected by O—H...O hydrogen bonds, leading to an 8-connected 3D hex supramolecular network. IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis and solid-state photoluminescence analysis were carried out on both MOFs. Luminescence sensing experiments reveal that both MOFs have good selective sensing towards Fe3+ in aqueous solution.

A novel dinuclear bismuth(III) coordination compound, [Bi2(C7H3NO4)2(N3)2(C12H8N2)2]·4H2O, has been synthesized by an ionothermal method and characterized by elemental analysis, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, IR, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The molecular structure consists of one centrosymmetric dinuclear neutral fragment and four water molecules. Within the dinuclear fragment, each BiIIIcentre is seven-coordinated by three O atoms and four N atoms. The coordination geometry of each BiIIIatom is distorted pentagonal–bipyramidal (BiO3N4), with one azide N atom and one bridging carboxylate O atom located in axial positions. The carboxylate O atoms and water molecules are assembledviaO—H...O hydrogen bonds, resulting in the formation of a three-dimensional supramolecular structure. Two types of π–π stacking interactions are found, with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.461 (4) and 3.641 (4) Å.

Three salts, namely 2-amino-4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-1-ium thiobarbiturate trihydrate (I), 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidin-1-ium thiobarbiturate dihydrate (II) and 2,4-diamino-5-(3′,4′,5′-trimethoxybenzyl)pyrimidin-1-ium thiobarbiturate (III), were synthesized and characterized by IR and X-ray diffraction techniques. The primary interaction between the acid and base happensviaN—H...O hydrogen bonds in (II) and (III), andviawater-mediated N—H...OWand OW—HW...S in (I). The water molecules present in compound (I) form a (H2O)12water clusterviawater–water interactions. In all three compounds (I)–(III), thiobarbiturate anions form self-complementary pairs with a robustR22(8) motifviaa pair of N—H...O/N—H...S hydrogen bonds. They mimic the nucleobase base pairs by utilizing the same groups (thymine/uracil uses N3—H and C4=O8 groups during the formation of Watson–Crick and Hoogsteen base pairs with adenine). Compound (I) forms a water-mediated base pair through N—H...OWhydrogen bonds and forms anR42(12) motif. The formation of N—H...S hydrogen bonds, water-mediated base pairs and water–water interactions in these crystal systems offers scope for these systems to be considered as a model in the study of hydration of nucleobases and water-mediated nucleobase base pairs in macromolecules.

Objectives. The study was devoted to considering the features of the synthesis and crystal structure of calcium trifluoroacetate Ca2(CF3COO)4·8CF3COOH and investigating the products of its thermal behavior.Methods. The compositions of the proposed structural form were characterized by various physicochemical methods (X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy), and the products of thermal decomposition were determined under dynamic vacuum conditions.Results. The reaction between calcium carbonate and 99% trifluoroacetic acid yielded a new structural type of calcium trifluoroacetate Ca2(CF3COO)4·8CF3COOH (I) in the form of colorless prismatic crystals unstable air. X-ray diffraction results confirmed the composition I: space group P21, with unit cell parameters: a = 10.0193(5) Å, b = 15.2612(7) Å, c = 16.3342(8) Å, β = 106.106(2)°, V = 2399.6(2) Å3, Z = 2. The structure is molecular, constructed from Ca2(CF3COO)4·8CF3COOH dimers. The end molecules of the trifluoroacetic acid were involved in the formation of intramolecular hydrogen bonds with oxygen atoms of the bidentate bridging anions CF3COO−. There were strongly pronouncedsymmetric and asymmetric absorption bands of COO and CF3-groups in the IR spectrum of the resulting compound in the range of 1200–1800 cm−1. The definite peak of the oscillation of the OH-group at 3683 cm−1 corresponds to the trifluoroacetic acid molecules present in the structure. The broadpeak of the valence oscillations in the range of 3300–3500 cm−1 is caused by the presence of intramolecular hydrogen bonds. Decomposition began at 250°C and 10−2 mm Hg with calcium fluoride CaF2 as the final decomposition product.Conclusions. We obtained a previously undescribed calcium–trifluoroacetic acid complex whose composition can be represented by Ca2(CF3COO)4·8CF3COOH. The crystal island structure is a dimeric molecule where the calcium atoms are bound into dimers by four trifluoroacetate groups. The complex was deposited in the Cambridge Structural Data Bank with a deposit number CCDC 2081186. Although the compound has a molecular structure, thermal decomposition leads to the formation of calcium fluoride characterized by a small particle size, which may further determine its applications.

A new organic/inorganic salt formed by mixed-valence dibenzotetrathiafulvalene (DBTTF) radical cations and the spherical Keggin-type polyoxometalate anions [H3BW12O40]2− was obtained by electrochemical oxidation of the donor in an acetonitrile and a 1,2-dichloroethane solution containing the polyanion. The compound has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, EPR, IR and Raman spectroscopy. X-Ray diffraction experiments have revealed that the compound consists of heteropolyanions, water molecules and DBTTF radical cations. The organic radicals form trimers and dimers via π-π stacking; moreover, the polyoxoanions and the organic donors are also held together by hydrogen bonding interactions. In their packing arrangement, a three-dimensional supramolecular network with one-dimensional channels along the b axis is established with uncoordinated water molecules residing in the channels.

Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of dodecamethyl bisimidotriphosphoramide mono-hydrate (TRIPA • H2O, C12H38N7O4P3) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The compound crystallises in the monoclinic system, space group P2i/n with a = 9.236(3), b = 14.016(4), c = 17.534(5) A, β = 97.32(4)°, Z = 4. The building units are dimers of TRIPA • H2O. These units are separated by normal van der Waals distances. The two molecules in the dimer are connected by four hydrogen bridges involving two water molecules. The nitrogen atoms display a nearly planar hybridisation.
