Characterization of TiO2 surface following the modification with silane coupling agents Studies were conducted on the modification of titanium white surface using selected silane coupling agents. The effect of the concentration of the organic coupling agents was examined (0.5; 1 or 3 weight parts per 100 weight parts of TYTANPOL R-003, TYTANPOL R-211 or TYTANPOL R-213 preparation of titanium white). The dispersive properties were determined by an estimation of the particle size distribution curves and of the polydispersity index. Moreover, microscopic observations were conducted permitting to evaluate the surface morphology of the modified TiO2 particles. The profiles of sedimentation in water were also determined for the titanium whites and the BET specific surface areas were determined. Selected samples of the modified and unmodified titanium whites were subjected to elemental analysis.

Silicon powder is a kind of important nonmetallic mineral. It not only reduce the cost of polymer materials, but also can improve the performance of materials. In order to make silicon powder play a better role, this paper shows that surface modification of silicon powder by using the silane coupling agents KH550 and KH560. Through hydrophobic property, infiltrating performance, activation index, infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).It can be find that the evaluation and characterization of silicon powder modification effect. Comprehensive analysis shows that the modification effect is best, when KH550 and KH560 is the ratio of 1:2.

This paper demonstrates that silica nanoparticles were modified by the four silane coupling agents (KH-151, KH-550, KH-560, KH-570) firstly, then polystyrene/silica (PS/SiO2) composite microsphere with PS core and silica nanoparticles shell were prepared by Pickering emulsion polymerization. The characterization of optical microscope (OM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and thermogravimetic analysis ( TGA) illustrates that these microsphere are composed of PS and silica nanoparticles. Silica nanoparticles modified by the different silane coupling agents could form the stable PS/SiO2 microsphere over 70 °C, while the unmodified silica nanoparticles are difficult to form stable PS/SiO2 microspheres at the same temperature. The PS/KH-151-SiO2 microsphere exhibits the least average particle size, while the PS/KH-570-SiO2 microsphere produces the largest. Both SEM and TGA confirm that microsphere surface exists solid nanoparticles.

Anatase-type one-dimensional TiO2 nanowire was prepared by hydrothermal method. The nanowires were modified by three kinds of silane coupling agents, such as KH550, KH560 and KH570. Flocculation was caused when the amount of modifier reached a certain level. When KH570 was used at 3.0 percent, at 80 °C, 4 h, and pH value between 9 and 10, modified nanowires had the highest 56.5 percent lipophilization degree, the lowest 0.562 per/nm2 surface hydroxyl number, and the maximal 121.2° static contact angle.

The environment-friendly epoxy emulsion was synthesized by MAA, BA, St reacting as grafting monomer, while silane coupling agents played a role as functional monomer. Experimental results were characterized by Nano-particle size analyzer, EIS, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, FTIR and TGA. The results of Nano-particle size analyzer showed the average particle size lower than 300nm and emulsion had lowest water absorption when ω(KH560+KH550) was 7%. The results of EIS and UV-VIS spectrum showed the cured firm had the best corrosion resistance and weather resistance while n(KH560):n(KH550)=2:1. The results of FTIR showed the silane coupling agents had successfully grafted in the skeletal structure of epoxy molecules. The results of TGA showed the thermal stability were better than unmodified.
