Thermal analysis of car air conditioningThermodynamic analysis of car air cooler is presented in this paper. Typical refrigerator cycles are studied. The first: with uncontrolled orifice and non controlled compressor and the second one with the thermostatic controlled expansion valve and externally controlled compressor. The influence of the refrigerant decrease and the change of the air temperature which gets to exchangers on the refrigeration efficiency of the system; was analysed. Also, its effectiveness and the power required to drive the compressor were investigated. The impact of improper refrigerant charge on the performance of air conditioning systems was also checked.

Abstract Currently, there is a rising trend for commercial buildings to use air conditioning to provide indoor thermal comfort. This paper focuses on the impact of prolonged exposure to indoor air-conditioned environments on occupants' thermal acceptability and preferences in a mixed-mode building in Brazil. Questionnaires were administered while indoor microclimatic measurements were carried out (i.e., air temperature, radiant air temperature, air speed and humidity). Results suggest significant differences in occupants' thermal acceptability and cooling preferences based on thermal history; differences were found between groups based on different physical characteristics (i.e., different gender and body condition). The findings also indicated a significant potential to implement temperature fluctuations indoors when occupants are exposed to air conditioning environments in warm and humid climates.

To evaluate airports' current thermal comfort temperature and humidity were registered in three main Brazilian international airports, other variables were local region climate characteristics and the constructive types of passenger terminal buildings. The Brazilian air transportation demand has considerably grown over the last decade, with some airports reaching their capacity. Thermal discomfort may be a key driver of passenger perceptions of airport service levels, specially under capacity overload situations. Therefore, to achieve airport thermal comfort within this new scenario, and with the imminent and future expansions of the airport system, certainly put extra work on the existing air conditioning systems, consequently increasing energy consumption and its associated costs. Collected temperature and humidity from each study case subsided the data for the psychrometric charts. The evidences showed temperatures below the international standards requirements for thermal comfort levels. These charts also indicated that adequate building types with natural air circulation, provides the best levels of thermal comfort. Results suggest the importance of considering the implementation of a combined system using artificial and natural air conditioning in the planning of future expansions.

CO2 (GWP = 1) is considered as a promising natural alternative refrigerant to HFC-134a in mobile air conditioning (MAC) applications. The objective of this study is to investigate the cooling performance characteristics of a CO2 MAC system. A prototype CO2 MAC system, consisting of a CO2 electrical compressor, CO2 parallel flow microchannel heat exchangers, and an electrical expansion valve, was developed and tested. Factor analysis experiments were conducted to reveal the effect of outdoor temperature on the cooling performance of this CO2 MAC system. Compared with a conventional R134a MAC system, the prototype CO2 MAC system achieved comparable cooling capacity, but had COP reductions of 26% and 10% at 27 °C and 45 °C outdoor conditions, respectively. In addition, based on refrigerant properties, theoretical cycle analysis was done to reveal the impact of evaporator, gas cooler and compressor, on the system cooling performance. It is concluded that the increase of overall compressor efficiency or the decrease of gas cooler approaching temperature could greatly improve the COP of this CO2 MAC system.

The energy consumption of several central air conditioning systems in summer was researched by the method of exergy analysis. Combined with actual example,the exergy loss of all the equipments and the exergy efficiency of three systems were calculated. The results show that the exergy efficiency of three systems is very low. Relatively speaking, the exergy efficiency of primary return air conditioning system with supplying air in dew point is highest. The equipment of highest exergy loss is air-conditioned room, while the exergy loss of surface air cooler is smallest. Based on this, several improvement measures were proposed to reduce exergy loss and improve exergy efficiency.

The increase of condenser temperature and pressure in air-conditioning leads to decreased cooling capacity and the increase of power consumption. Evaporative cooling could improve the thermal performance of the system. In this study, the evaporative cooling module was installed before the condenser to reduce the inlet air temperature to the condenser unit. The impact of condenser air temperature on the air conditioning system's overall performance was determined by varying the cooling pad discharge water flowrate of 880, 1040, and 1200 mL/min. The cooling load of 2000 W was employed in this experiment. The obtained results were compared with the air conditioning without an evaporative cooling module. It shows that the coefficient of performance (COP) increases with the increase of discharge water flow rate. The highest COP obtained is 7.09 at the flow rate of 1200 mL/min. The compressor work reduces about 6.57 % as compared with the air conditioner without evaporative cooling application. Besides, the COP increases by 12. 95 % at the highest flow rate.
