Most of the transformational, inclusive, partnership leadership literature, while brilliant and inspirational, does not provide day-to-day ideas for practitioners. Drawing on several key leadership theories and theorists (Kouzes and Posner’s five core behaviors of successful leaders, the Athena Model based on research on women leaders, Centered Leadership from the McKinsey Project, the Research-Productivity and Engagement Model, Burn’s and Bass’ Transformational Leadership Theory, Riane Eisler’s partnership leadership, multicultural leadership theorist Juana Bordas, and feminist leadership theorists), the author describes how she has translated and implemented day-to-day leadership practices which she calls Intergalactic Leadership.

This paper proposes a future-driven leadership theory — the optimistic leadership theory — suitable for leading global organizations in the 21st century and beyond. The author argues that a new leadership approach is needed for these organizations due to the complexities that come with globalization, including the high need for knowledge and experience, distance decay, and cultural amalgamation. Five leadership approaches (Visionary Leadership, Differentiated Leadership, Servant Leadership, Flexible Leadership, and Reflective Leadership) are identified as the components of optimistic leadership. Following a review of the rare literature on these five leadership approaches, they are found to constitute the best determinants of successful future-driven leadership. There is an overlap of some approaches and some are within other leadership theories such as transformational leadership. A model of optimistic leadership is suggested, and a test based on the variables is proposed.

The study aimed to investigate the proficiency of women academic leaders in public universities, Pakistan. The transformational leadership approach was used to conduct this study. A semi-structured interview protocol was developed to collect data. A convenient sampling technique was applied to collect data from twenty women leaders from the three public universities of Punjab. The interview questions were based on the six-dimensions of transformational leadership. The deductive method was applied to reach conclusions. The results identified that women academic leaders were not that proficient in their transformational leadership practices since four out of six TL-dimensions emerged crucial in all the three public universities.

Owing to its relationship with change and transformation, transformational leadership theory should be relevant to managing change and transformation linked to diversification investments. However, the question of what model of transformational leadership would be appropriate for managing change and transformation linked to diversification investments has not been addressed. The purpose of this research was to explore managers’ perceptions of the links between transformational leadership and diversification strategies. Using a qualitative research method, this study provides a critical analysis of the transformational leadership theories and triangulation with the behaviours of 30 purposively sampled managers from ten firms involved in different diversification activities. The aim of this was to determine the most appropriate transformational leadership model for managing change and transformation linked to diversification investments. Besides the degree of industry predictability and certainty, the findings echoed the reasoning in the full-range transformational leadership theory that a continuum of transformational-transactional leadership behaviours enhances effective management of diversification-related changes and transformation. However, no similar transformational leadership model was found to have been adopted by prior studies or enterprises engaged in different diversification activities. The study should fi ll this gap by identifying a new transformational leadership theory that links the full-range transformational leadership theory to Ansoff’s model for diversification and growth improvement strategies.

This study describes a questionnaire survey of school librarians in North Carolina who have received advanced certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards. The survey was conducted to identify the transformational leadership practices of these school librarians and assess their ability to implement professional leadership guidelines. School librarians’ leadership practices were assessed using the Leadership Practices Inventory, 3rd Edition (LPI). School librarians perceived themselves as possessing a high level of transformational leadership in the five exemplary practices identified by the LPI: Modeling the Way (MTW), Inspiring a Shared Vision (ISV), Challenging the Process (CTP), Enabling Others to Act (EOA) and Encouraging the Heart (ETH). They perceived themselves as being very strong at MTW and EOA. They were less successful at ISV and CTP. Overall, they were very successful in implementing professional leadership guidelines. Successful implementation of these guidelines was highly correlated with ISV and CTP.

The importance of leadership in organizational outcome cannot be overstated. This study showed that perceived leadership effectiveness predicts positive organizational outcome in Nigeria better than transformational leadership when paired together. However, because of its inherent positive attributes, transformational leadership when augmented by leadership effectiveness and practices can make public institutions more effective and efficient in its service delivery and in its response to the citizenry. Findings from this survey research support the general theory that leadership is a major determinant of organizational outcome and supports the universal applicability of transformational leadership theories.

<p>Drawing from the transformational leadership theory, this study aims to translate and analyse the psychometric properties of a Spanish version of the Transformational Teaching Questionnaire (TTQ).</p><p>A cohort sample of 2107 adolescents (997 males and 1110 females) from 82 secondary schools voluntarily participated in the research.</p><p>In Study 1 ((<em>n</em> = 1066), the exploratory factor analysis informed a one-factor solution. In Study 2  (<em>n</em> = 1041), the confirmatory factor analysis showed the single-factor and the four-factor models showed satisfactory and adequate goodness of fit indices, respectively. Confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that the four-factor structure of transformational teaching with a high second-order factor, previously found in Canadian adolescents, was replicated in this study. Internal consistency was high in all subscales and in the total scale. The expected pattern of significant relationships with other variables was supported, and evidence of measurement invariance across gender groups was obtained.</p><p>This study provides evidence for the cross-cultural validation of the TTQ, a questionnaire designed to assess students’ perceptions of their teachers’ behaviours from the perspective of transformational leadership theory. These findings suggested that the Spanish version of TTQ would be useful for assessing transformational teaching in Spanish adolescents in physical education classes.</p>

The environmental, economic, and social crises we are increasingly confronted with locally and globally, including climate change, ozone depletion, biodiversity loss, and also economic and social issues, such as poverty, social inequalities, violation of human rights, gender inequalities, loss of indigenous knowledge, etc. call for changes in the ways we think, work, and act. In this context, a course dealing with intercultural communication and sustainable leadership that is part of a M.Sc. programme on ICT in Education for Sustainable Development has been developed and is studied in this chapter. The course puts emphasis on the most urgent and critical social, environmental, and economic challenges facing the world and explores how leaders from education, business, government and civil society are responding to global/local sustainability challenges. In particular, it elaborates on the nature of sustainability leadership and how it can contribute to transformational change. It does this by locating sustainability within the leadership literature and presenting a model of sustainability leadership that integrates three complementary types of leadership, namely: distributed; entrepreneurial and transformational. The course also examines the importance of sustainable leadership practices within organisations (e.g. schools, business, NGOs, public) and assess the potential benefits if institutions are more actively engaged in sustainable leadership practices. It explores how intercultural communication can contribute to positive change for sustainability and discusses that new theoretical frameworks are needed to better understand effective transformational leadership. It also elaborates how cultural orientations and intercultural communication competence affect the full range leadership framework and transformational leadership dimensions. This course is delivered through a Virtual Learning Management System (VLMS) based on Moodle open LMS.
