The current learning process of students is directed in a one way process. The teachers have to explain and the students are listening to them instead of being actively involved. It degrades their cognitive learning outcome. The application of Think Pair Share affects the students to become actively involved and giving an opportunity for those who want to comprehend their argument into the class. The additional approach of the method may support to make the students feel their own learning method which goes meaningful. The goal of this research is to know the role of Think Pair Share learning method toward the cognitive learning outcome of senior high school students. The research uses quassi experiments in terms of control class and experiment class approach. The result shows that the reduction of them are 33,53 and 17,21. The normality test result defines that the significance value is 0,0066 (>0,05). It means they have accepted H0, meanwhile the pretest and posttest mark of each class control and experiment distribute normally. The homogeneity test results show a value of 0.439 (> 0.05) so that H0 is accepted, which means that the pretest and posttest values from the experimental and control classes come from the same or homogeneous population. The result of ANACOVA test show that SPSS result is 0,000 (>0.05) so the H1 is accepted. It proves that Think Pair Share method using observation experiment is effectively significant towards the cognitive learning outcome of the students. From this situation, it concludes that the approach is having an impact into the cognitive learning outcome of the students

Science Process Skills (SPS) are the essential abilities which need to be mastered in learning biology to strengthen students’ learning outcomes. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between SPS and biology Cognitive Learning Outcome (CLO) of senior high school students. The sample was 100 tenth graders in Malang. The correlational study used two test types as the instrument (i.e. essay and multiple choice). The essay instrument consisted of 10 items which were developed from SPS aspects (basic and integrated skills). Meanwhile, the biology CLO was measured using multiple choice test which consisted of 30 items. The collected data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the highest students’ SPS aspect was observing (78.84%), while the lowest was predicting aspect (27.30%). In addition, the highest achievement of students’ biology CLO was C1 (94.23%), while the lowest was C6 (33.46%). The regression analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between students’ SPS and biology CLO, where the equation was Y = 27.988 + 0.311X.  Therefore, it is crucial to consider SPS to be integrated into a learning activity by using various learning models that empowering these skills to improve students’ biology CLO.

This study aims to develop a module based on discovery learning in improving scientific literacy skills in the 11th grade of science class in senior high school. This study refers to the modified Borg and Gall model into 7 steps, (1) preliminary study; (2) planning; (3) preparation of modules; (4) expert judgment; (5) revisions; (6) limited trials; (7) revision II. The research samples are in XI MIPA 2 and XI MIPA class at 3 SMAN 1 Bringin. The technique of collecting data using written tests, questionnaires, and observations. Hypothesis testing to measure the increase in cognitive learning outcomes of students using an independent t-test on n-gain students. Assessments from material experts, subject matter teachers, colleagues, and high school students show that the modules that have been developing suitable for use in the learning process with an achievement level of 86%, 95%, 88%, and 90% respectively. The results of the t-test showed an increase in students' literacy skills (p <0.05) of 0.71 (high category). It can be concluded, the modules that have been developing become worthy to use in the learning process and effective in enhancing the scientific literacy skills of senior high school students in XI class.

Research objective was to find effect of local culture-problem-based learning method application with used GeoGebra in mathematics learning for senior high school students. Type of this research was quasi-experiment research with post-test only group design. Research sample used three learning class that was chosen by purposive sampling method and was selected from senior high school in Sumatera Utara, Indonesia. Students in experiment-I class was taught with local culture-problem based learning used GeoGebra, students in experiment-II class was taught with problem-based learning and students in control class taught with conventional learning method. Data was analysed with descriptive and inferential through one way-ANAVA test then continued with Tuckey test if data had normal and homogenic distribution, if data had abnormal and/or heterogenic distribution then it was analysed with Kruskal-Wallis test and continued with Mann-Whitney U-Test. Research result showed average value of students’ statistical thinking ability test from experiment-I class higher than experiment-II and control class. Based on this research result, then mathematic teachers on senior high school were suggested to applicate local culture-problem based learning with GeoGebra method in mathematics learning and developed mathematic matters which close to students’ local culture experience.

Abstract Students should be encouraged to achieve high order thinking skills, in which one of the ways to build the thinking skills is through solving mathematical problems. This study aimed to observe the effectiveness of a problem-based learning method and its effect on students’ perseverance in solving mathematical problems. The subjects of this research were science students at a Senior High School (SMAN) 2 Surabaya, Indonesia, selected with clustered random sampling. The research was conducted with an experimental design, and the problem-based learning method was applied in a Science 1 Class (experiment class), while a Science 4 Class was taught by following the conventional learning method designed by the teacher (control class), where the learning process was centered on the teacher and focused on the discipline. The instruments used in this research were the learning set for both learning methods, initial and final problem sets. The research results showed that the application of problem-based learning methods resulted in better learning outcomes. Moreover, the analysis of covariance showed that the application of a problem-based learning method is effective to develop students’ perseverance in solving mathematical problems.
