ABSTRACTThe influence of various concentrations and application methods of Gibberelic Acid on growth and yield of broccoli Cv. Lucky in LembangBroccoli’s yield from side shoots was expected to increase with GA3 application, due to the translocation of nutrients faster and better towards the side shoots. The experiment was carried out to study the interaction between concentration and application method of GA3 on growth and yield of broccoli. The experiment was conducted from February up to Mei 2016 at CV. Agro Duta Farm, located in Cisarua – West Bandung, at an elevation of 1,100 m above the sea level. The experimental design used was Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) with three replications, consisted of two factors and three levels. The first factor was concentration of GA3, comprised of 25 mg/l, 50 mg/l, and 100 mg/l. The second factor was application method of GA3, comprised of three levels: seedling soaking for 24 hours, foliar spray at 15 and 25 DAT, seedling soaking for 24 hours and foliar spray at 15 DAT. The results showed that there was no interaction between concentration and application method of GA3 on growth and yield component. GA3 of 100 mg/l significantly increased the percentage of weight and number of B’s quality, and decreased the percentage of weight and umber of C’s quality of broccoli from side shoots. The higher percentage of weight and number of B’s quality from side shoots were obtained from seedling soaking of GA3 for 24 hours. An experiment was conducted at the research field of the Department of Agricultural Botany, Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Patuakhali under the Agro-ecological zone-13 (AEZ-13) during the period from November 2012 to February 2013. The aim of the study was to identify the most effective irrigation level for obtaining the better growth and higher yield performance of BARI Gom-25 that are suitable to cultivate under  coastal region of Patuakhali, Bangladesh. So, the present study was consists of five irrigations levels including control viz. control or no irrigation (T0), one irrigation at 25 DAS (T1), two irrigations at 25 and 40 DAS (T2), three irrigations at 25, 40 and 55 DAS (T3)  and four irrigations at 25, 40, 55 and 70 DAS (T4). The seeds of BARI Gom-25 were collected from the BARI, Joydebpur, Gazipur on 22 November, 2012. The experiment was laid out in completely randomized block design (RCBD) with four replications and analysis was done by the MSTAT-C package program where means were separated by DMRT at 5% level of probability. Data were recorded on various growth and yield attributing traits. The plot size was 5 m2 (2.5 × 2.0 m) where row to row and seed to seed distances were 20 and 10 cm respectively. Data were collected on various morpho-physiological growth, yield and yield attributing traits. Results obtained from the present study, whole characters of the study were significant at 5% by the moisture (irrigation) levels where three irrigations given at 25, 40 and 55 DAS had most effective than that of other moisture levels and no irrigation. From the results investigation, it was found that the tallest plant (76.86 cm), maximum requiring days to anthesis (61.00 days), maturity (109.0 days) and maximum number of effective tillers (5.00 hill-1),the highest grain growth (3.11g at 36 DAA) and grains (44.00 spike-1) were obtained with three irrigation (T3) levels. Similarly, T3 further showed the greater performance on spike length (17.28 cm), 1000-seed weight (50.16 g), grain (4.16 t ha-1), straw (5.89 t ha-1) and biological yield (10.05 t ha-1) as well as the higher harvest index (41.39%). Investigated above whole characters were produced lower performances under no moisture (irrigation) treatments. These results indicated that irrigation at three times (T3) would be most advantageous irrigation levels for wheat production under the studied non saline ecosystem of coastal region.Progressive Agriculture 29 (2): 99-106, 2018

Field experimental trials were carried out at Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka. Kaduna located between latitude 100 35”N and longitude 07°21”E at altitude 644m above sea level to compare the effect of different application of organic manures on growth and yield of water melon (Citrullus Ianatus). Two trials were conducted between the early onset of rain in April and post monsoon in October 2011 and the mean of the two trials were taken. The treatments were poultry manure, mixture of poultry manure plus goat/ sheep manure, goat/ sheep manure and control(no manure). The treatments were replicated four times in randomized complete block design. Data were collected on growth parameters such as plant vines length, Number of branches per plant, number of leaves and yield parameters like fruits weight, fruits diameter and number of fruits. The data were subjected to analysis of variance and the mean separated using Least Significant Difference. The results showed that there were significant differences (P<0.05) in plant vine length. The plots treated with poultry droppings had the highest value of plant vine length of 8.20, 137.90 and 216.30 cm at 2, 4 and 6 weeks after planting. Poultry droppings also gave the highest values for the weight of fruit (10.72 Kg) and diameter of fruit (53.25 mm). The best treatment is poultry manure which has the highest yield of 34.25% at 2.5 tonnes per hectare. Poultry manure showed positive effect on all the growth and yield parameters of water melon (Citrullus lanatus) measured. The use of poultry manure is therefore recommended for farmers in the study area in order to be able to obtain good yield of water melon.
