For small and medium sized water conservancy project, gravity dam on soil foundation is a comparatively economic and reasonable dam structure. Based on project case, the author discusses in this paper the seepage-proofing and anti-sliding stability of the gravity dam on soil foundation, focusing on calculation of anti-sliding stability of deep stratum, selection of soil pressure and effective measures for improving the anti-sliding stability of the gravity dam on soil foundation.

Background: Efficient estimation of main and interaction effects under multi environment trials had been carried out by AMMI. Studies with low proportion of the variance explained by first interaction principal component IPCA1 under AMMI analysis had been reported biased interpretation for the stability of the genotypes.Methods: Weighted Average of Absolute scores (WAASB), quantitative stability measure had been recommended for selection of productive genotypes with broad adaptation. The selection of promising genotypes had been assisted by use of superiority index (WAASBY) that considered simultaneous use of yield and stability by allowing variable weighting mechanism for yield and stability.Result: Wheat GW509 and HI1633 genotypes had been identified by stability measure WAASB for the first year. While Superiority index considered stability and high yield settled for HI1633 and Raj4083 genotypes. Analytic measures of adaptability PRVG and MHPRVG observed suitability of HI1633 and Raj 4083. SI expressed positive linear behaviour with yield, MHPRVG and PRVG measures. While stability measure WAASB maintained moderate negative correlation with yield, SI, MHPRVG and PRVG. Wheat genotypes HI1633, HI1641 and HI1646 identified by stability measure for the next year of study. Superiority index selected HI1641, HI1633 and MACS6752 genotypes. SI expressed direct linear relation with yield, MHPRVG and PRVG. Stability measure exhibited indirect relationships with SI, MHPRVG, PRVG and yield Wheat genotypes HI1633, Raj 4083 for first year and HI1641, MACS6752 for the second year of study.

Abstract In situ measurements obtained during the 2010 COUPLING cruise were analyzed in order to fully characterize the velocity structure of the coastal Bransfield Current. An idealized two-layer shallow-water model was used to investigate the various instability processes of the realistic current along the coastal shelf. Particularly studied is how the topographic parameter To (ratio between the shelf slope and the isopycnal slope of the surface current) impacts the growth and the wavelength of the unstable perturbations. For small bottom slopes, when the evolution of the coastal current is controlled by the baroclinic instability, the increase of the topographic parameter To yields a selection of smaller unstable wavelengths. The growth rates increase with small values of To. For larger values of To (To ≳ 10, which is relevant for the coastal Bransfield Current), the baroclinic instability is strongly dampened and the horizontal shear instability becomes the dominant one. In this steep shelf regime, the unstable growth rate and the wavelength selection of the baroclinic coastal current remains almost constant and weakly affected by the amplitude of the bottom velocity or the exact value of the shelf slope. Hence, the linear stability analysis of an idealized Bransfield Current predicts a typical growth time of 7.7 days and an alongshore scale of 47 km all along the South Shetland Island shelf. The fact that these large growth times are identical to the typical transit time of water parcels along the shelf may explain why the current does not exhibit any unstable meanders.

Abstract:The objective of this work was to characterize the performance of elite wheat genotypes from different Brazilian breeding programs for traits associated with grain yield and preharvest sprouting. The study was conducted in 2010 and 2011 in the municipality of Capão do Leão, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in a randomized complete block design with three replicates. Thirty-three wheat genotypes were evaluated for traits related to preharvest sprouting and grain yield. The estimate of genetic distance was used to predict potential combinations for selection of plants with high grain yield and tolerance to preharvest sprouting. The combined analysis of sprouted grains and falling number shows that the TBIO Alvorada, TBIO Mestre, Frontana, Fundacep Raízes, Fundacep Cristalino, and BRS Guamirim genotypes are tolerant to preharvest sprouting. Combinations of TBIO Alvorada and TBIO Mestre with Fundacep Cristalino show high potential for recovering superior genotypes for high grain yield and tolerance to preharvest sprouting.
