Characteristics of high achiever students are different from middle and low achiever students. Teachers and schools need to understand the unique characteristics of high achiever students in terms of their wellbeing. Aim of this research is to describe source of wellbeing for high achiever students. The research was conducted through survey using questionnaire adapted from Huebner’s Multidimensional Student’s Life Satisfaction Scale (MSLSS). The questionnaire filled by 428 students in grade IV-VI in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, which are at top ten rank of their class. Data then analyzed by performing exploratory factor analysis. This research found that there are two factors as source of wellbeing for high achiever students, that are physical and psychological safety and the availability of support for student personal growth. Physical and psychological safety refers to school environment that protects students from psychological and physical threats. Whereas the availability of support for personal growth refers to how schools provide environment in order to facilitate students’ cognitive and social development. This research suggest that high achiever students call for teachers and school personnel to create school environment by considering students opportunities to develop their potentials without feeling threatened.

Life satisfaction influences sustainable personal growth among students by ensuring that they more firmly apply themselves in their education. Universities represent an environment where students may improve their life satisfaction through better academic performance and being engaged in extracurricular sport. This study evaluates life satisfaction (LS) among university students, 18 to 28 years of age to confirm whether academic performance, involvement in sports and physical activity are factors relating to higher levels of LS among university students. The study uses the Brief Multidimensional Life Satisfaction Scale. Over a three-year timeframe, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 875 students across areas of study in institutions of higher education in Serbia. The data were analyzed using Mann–Whitney and Kruskal–Wallis tests. LS among students is found to be significantly improved under the following conditions: removing the burden to pay for one’s tuition, having a better Grade Point Average (GPA) as well as being involved in sport. Moreover, the optimum level of physical activity to positively affect LS is found to be four to five hours a week.

<p>We used the samples of six studies to validate the Work Domain Satisfaction Scale (WDSS), a global, five-item and mid-level measure of work domain well-being. English and French versions of the scale were included in the studies to assess the stability of the instrument across these languages. Confirmatory factor analysis yielded a one-factor structure, which was shown invariant across languages and samples. Test-retest reliability of the scale was high, indicating that it measures a stable construct over time. Confirmatory factor analysis also provided evidence that satisfaction with work, measured with the WDSS, is related, but conceptually and empirically distinct from both life satisfaction and job satisfaction. The WDSS was also correlated in predictable ways with affective organizational commitment, a measure of how attached people are to their organizations. Work domain satisfaction also explained a significant amount of variance in affective organizational commitment, beyond job satisfaction. Moreover, the WDSS was positively related to inclusion of work into the self, a psychological variable that reflects the importance of work in the lives of individuals. The results indicate that the WDSS is a reliable, stable, and valid mid-level measure of satisfaction with work as a domain within people’s lives.</p>

Mindfulness, resilience, and resourcefulness are theoretically distinct but related constructs critical for improving psychosocial well-being outcomes for informal caregivers and others. Our aims were to evaluate the theoretical and operational distinctions among these constructs. Measures of mindfulness (Decentering Scale), resilience (Connor-Davidson Scale) and resourcefulness (Resourcefulness Scale) were collected from a national sample of 348 grandmother caregivers. We conducted exploratory factor analysis and examined correlation patterns. Inter-correlations ranged from r= .26 (resourcefulness and resilience) to r= .73 (resilience and mindfulness). Factor analyses and scree plots indicated unidimensional factors for resilience and for mindfulness, and two factors for resourcefulness (personal and social). When items from all measures were analyzed together, the four factors remained. Distinct relationships were found between mindfulness, resilience, and resourcefulness with relevant external variables. Our results support the conceptual distinctions among the constructs, providing support for interventions targeting these constructs to improve psychosocial outcomes in caregivers.

The major purpose of the study was to determine whether the Life Satisfaction Index-A was unidimensional or multidimensional and to examine the different dimensions of the scale to either validate or reject the factors on elderly blacks. The data for the study were collected from a sample of 240 black elderly in Jackson, Mississippi in Spring 197 8. The LSIA developed by Neugarten et al., was tested for revalidation and reliability by the use of item analysis, biserial correlation, discrimination values, and factor analysis. The study failed to support the existence of five dimensions that were supposed to form the life satisfaction scale as high intercorrelations were found among “mood tone,” “zest,” “self-concept,” “resolution,” and “congruence.” The cluster of items derived from factor analysis was not similar to clusters obtained by other writers. The data, however, revealed that the scale was highly reliable in measuring life satisfaction among black elderly.

El bienestar subjetivo es un aspecto importante del desarrollo de niños, niñas y adolescentes. Estudios previos han evidenciado que el bienestar subjetivo presenta diferencias según sexo, advirtiéndose en diversos países, que las mujeres presentan un puntaje menor respecto al de los hombres, usando diferentes escalas. Sin embargo, el sentido de esta diferencia no siempre se presenta a favor de los hombres. El presente estudio analiza los datos de dos muestras de adolescentes chilenos de séptimo grado de educación básica en escuelas urbanas (N1=776, N2=336), usando los datos del International Survey of Children´s Well-being (ISCWeB). Se comparan los puntajes de dos medidas de bienestar subjetivo: Student´s Life Satisfaction Scale (SLSS) y Overall Life Satisfaction (OLS) como una medida global de bienestar subjetivo y se presentan los resultados de ambas muestras en el marco de los demás países que integran el estudio internacional. Los resultados señalan que en Chile los niños presentan un mayor bienestar subjetivo que las niñas, similar a lo que se aprecia en algunos países desarrollados. Se discuten los resultados en función de los antecedentes presentados que podrían explicar dichas diferencias en favor de un grupo o de otro.

Life Satisfaction is a significant indicator of subjective well-being. It is assessed as a single, global measure or as a reference related to important areas of life, such as family and work. Assessing life satisfaction in people with special needs and verifying how this construct correlates with demographic variables such as gender, age and schooling, for example, was the objective of this study. Data collection was performed through a questionnaire with a Life Satisfaction Scale. The sample consisted of 48 people from Juazeiro do Norte in Ceará, aged 14-71, mostly male (60.4%). The results revealed that in 70.9% of respondents believe that their life is close to ideal in most aspects and that 72.9% agree that they are satisfied with their lives as it is. 41.7% reported that the conditions of their lives are excellent. Men said they were more satisfied with life than women, as well as older people and more religious people. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the loss of certain abilities, such as walking for example, does not seem to cause great changes in the feeling of life satisfaction in the studied population.

The article presents results of developing the Multidimensional Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale for primary school children based on MSLSS by E.S.Huebner.The questionnaire involves five scales: Family, School, Teachers, Myself, Friends as well as an overall index of life satisfaction.The reliability and validity of the questionnaire are demonstrated on the sample of primary school children (third and fourth grades, N=483).Five factor structure is confirmed by the results of confirmatory factor analysis.All the scales have high reliability (0.82 &lt; α &lt; 0.89) and show expected correlations with other indicators of subjective well-being and different scales of self-esteem (as assessed by Dembo-Rubinstein technique).The article contains the text of the questionnaire and normative data for primary school children.

The purpose of this study was to investigate factorial and content validity of the 9-item per dimension Ryff's Scale of Psychological Well-being in a sample of older Spanish adults. The scale is made up of six subscales: Self-acceptance, Environmental mastery, Positive relations with others, Autonomy, Personal growth, and Purpose in life. After translating the scale, it was administered to 422 retired people ages 65 and older. The internal consistency coefficients of the subscales were modest to low, but similar to the ones reported in previous studies. Although correlation profiles of the subscales replicated previous findings and are consistent with a distinction between two types of well-being (eudaimonic and hedonic), results from a second-order principal factor analysis including alternative well-being measures are rather ambiguous. As for the proposed 6-factor structure of the scale, neither exploratory principal component analysis nor confirmatory factor analysis supported clearly this factor structure, with or without second-order latent constructs.

The paper describes both the process and the results of adaptation and providing validity evidence for the Russian version of two subscales (Satisfaction with School and Satisfaction with Friends) of Multidimensional Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale (sample of third-grade pupils, N = 1729). Thisquestionnaireisoneofthemostsignificantscalesin the history of studying subjective well-being in primary schoolworldwide, although it has not been adapted in Russia yet. Adaptation has been carried according to the International Test Commission Guidelines for Translating and Adapting Test. ValiditywasinterpretedaccordingtotheDutch Committee on Testing (COTAN)practice. Psychometric analysis included applying of Classical Test Theory, Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Item Response Theory methods. It revealed high psychometric quality of the adapted subscales after deletion of the very three items the other studies suggest as problematic.
