The study aimed to know the extent of applying science teachers the habits of mind to develop learning of secondary school students in Holy Makkah, for this purpose a survey descriptive approach was applied that relies on data collection and tabulation and then analyzing and extracting results from it, to determine the extent of application, prepare a questionnaire, and submit the proposed recommendations. The sample of the study was (31) female science teachers for the secondary stage. In order to answer the study questions, a questionnaire was applied (prepared by the researcher) that consists of four axes of mind habits, aiming to know the extent of applying the parameters to mind habits to develop the learning of high school students. (T-test - correlation coefficient). The results confirmed that secondary school teachers apply some mind habits to develop their students ’learning at an average rate of 50.76%. The study recommended the importance of holding training courses for female teachers in various stages of education on habits of the mind, and focusing on the use of learning based on habits of the mind, to move from teaching information to teaching effective skills and strategies for the learning process.

This study was set to determine the strategies for enhancing the performance of secondary school students in agricultural science for food security in Ebonyi State. A survey research design was adopted with a population of 53 respondents (14 male and 39 female agricultural science teachers) sampled purposively from 48 secondary schools in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The instrument for data collection was a structured 4-point weighted 21-item questionnaire developed by the researcher sectioned A and B with response options of Strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (DA) and Strongly Disagree (SD) after intensive literature review and the numerical values of 4, 3, 2 & 1 was assigned to the instrument respectively. The instrument was validated by three research experts while the reliability index of 0.77 was established using Cronbach Alpha reliability estimate. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the two research questions while t-test was used to test the two null hypotheses at .05 level of significance and appropriate degree of freedom. Some of the findings among others include that teachers can enhance the performance of secondary school students in agricultural science for food security in Ebonyi State. It was therefore recommended that facilities should be made available for proper training of secondary school students for productivity on graduation and as well for food security in Ebonyi State.

ResumenEn este artículo se reporta una investigación en la cual se intenta averiguar si los estudiantes pueden adquirir habilidades necesarias para realizar factorizaciones algebraicas, utilizando software matemático. Para contestar la interrogante de la investigación, se aplicaron actividades a estudiantes de nivel secundaria y bachillerato, donde debían calcular factorizaciones algebraicas con ayuda del software GeoGebra, posteriormente se les pedía que buscaran patrones en los resultados que arrojaba el software para poder generar una factorización general. Después de analizar los resultados de la experimentación se encontró́ que los estudiantes son capaces de producir factorizaciones algebraicas generales, aunque presentan ciertas dificultades. Este trabajo cierra haciendo una discusión de las implicaciones que pueden tener los resultados encontrados.AbstractThis paper describes a research study focused on finding out if mathematics students can acquire skills necessary to perform algebraic factorizations by using mathematical software. To answer the research question, a group of lower secondary school students and high school students were involved in mathematical activities where there should calculate algebraic factorizations using the software GeoGebra, then they were asked to look for patterns in the results generated by the software in order to produce a general factorization. After analyzing the results of the experimentation, it was found that students are able to produce general algebraic factorizations, but some of them have some difficulties in doing so. This work is closed by a discussion of the implications of the research results.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the prevalence of academic stress and exam anxiety among private secondary school students in India as well as the associations with socio-economic and study-related factors. Design/methodology/approach – Participants were 400 adolescent students (52 percent male) from five private secondary schools in Kolkata who were studying in grades 10 and 12. Participants were selected using a multi-stage sampling technique and were assessed using a study-specific questionnaire. Findings – Findings revealed that 35 and 37 percent reported high or very high levels of academic stress and exam anxiety respectively. All students reported high levels of academic stress, but those who had lower grades reported higher levels of stress than those with higher grades. Students who engaged in extra-curricula activities were more likely to report exam anxiety than those who did not engage in extra-curricula activities. Practical implications – Private high school students in India report high levels of academic stress and exam anxiety. As such there is a need to develop effective interventions to help these students better manage their stress and anxiety. Originality/value – This is the first study the authors are aware of that explores the academic stress levels of private secondary school students in India. The study identifies factors that may be associated with the experience of high levels of stress that need to be explored further in future research.

Background. Diabetes is a set of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia caused by improper action and/or secretion of insulin. Currently, diabetes is becoming a serious challenge in modern medicine, this disease affects 425 million people, and the forecasts indicate that by 2045 the number of cases will increase to 629 million. Objective. The aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge about risk factors for type 2 diabetes among secondary school students in the Silesian Province in Poland and to determine whether there are differences between the level of knowledge between girls and boys and between first-, second- and third-grade students. Material and methods. The survey was conducted among 650 high school students. The research tool was the author's questionnaire. The obtained results were developed using Microsoft Excel 2010 and Statistica 13.3 (TIBCO Inc.). Results. The definitions of type 2 diabetes were known to 63.9%. 91.8% of high school students indicated excessive body mass as a risk factor for morbidity, while 18.8% of people indicated the appropriate type of obesity increasing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Most of the students considered abnormal eating habits as an important factor increasing the occurrence of the disease (92.4%). The most numerous group of high school students were people with average level of knowledge (89.6%). Conclusions. The knowledge of high school students about risk factors for type 2 diabetes was varied. The most numerous group were high school students characterised by the average level of knowledge. There were no statistically significant differences between the proportion of correctly provided responses by women and men. There were statistically significant differences between the proportion of correctly provided responses by first-, second- and third-graders. Our research shows that educational activities should be undertaken, especially about modifiable risk factors for type 2 diabetes.

<p> </p><p>The goal of this research is to investigate schools’ policy of using a mobile phone at schools from the perspective of secondary school students in Indonesia. It happens to be a long debate involving educators in Indonesia on whether or not the use of smartphone can be allowed in schools. So far, all we hear is the perspectives of teachers and schools’ administrators regarding the ban but never from the students, even though the students are the subject of these debates. This research is conducted in order to investigate, as well as to give the opportunity for students’ to voice their opinion, point of views, and perspectives toward the issue of banning smartphone use at schools. The data of this research was collected through online survey aimed at secondary schools’ students in Gorontalo, Indonesia. There are 250 students from 5 high schools have responded to the online surveys. The result shows that even though students mostly believe that the use of smartphone should be integrated into teaching and learning process, an appropriate policy of using it at school should be designed in order to get rid of the negative impact cause by it, and to maximize the use of it as a sophisticated resource to help students learn better at school.</p>

The aim of this research is to examine the perceptions of technology-based learning and teaching in the science courses of secondary school students. This research sample is made up of 396 students studying in the eighth grade of seven secondary schools in the center of Kars, Turkey. This research includes a case study design. As a data collection tool, an important technical drawing is used in the literature of science education to reveal the mental approaches of individuals against facts and events. Data are analysed through drawing analysis. This research reveals three key conclusions. First, it is understood that the perception of students in the eighth grade of secondary schools for the use of technology in existing science courses is largely composed of smart boards. Second, it is understood that the technological systems that students demand in science courses should be designed specifically in a way that they can use independently. Third, it has shown that smart boards among the technological systems are largely in the grip of science teachers, but students are not able to use these technological systems adequately in the courses.
