Eu3+-doped sub-10 nm LaOCl nanocrystals with 43 % photoluminescence quantum yield were prepared by solvothermal synthesis from hydrated rare-earth chlorides. As-obtained nanocrystals are nearly spherical, monodisperse and stable as colloidal dispersions. These combined features should intensify the interest for nanocrystalline rare-earth oxyhalides and their optical properties.

Co-doping of cation (La3+) and anion (F−) ions is a feasible method to improve the optical properties of CsPbCl3 QDs, and high photoluminescence quantum yield of 36.5% is achieved in CsPb(Cl0.7F0.3)3:La3+ QDs.

We report the synthesis of colloidal CdSe quantum dots doped with a novel Ag precursor: AgCl. The addition of AgCl causes dramatic changes in the morphology of synthesized nanocrystals from spherical nanoparticles to tetrapods and finally to large ellipsoidal nanoparticles. Ellipsoidal nanoparticles possess an intensive near-IR photoluminescence ranging up to 0.9 eV (ca. 1400 nm). In this article, we explain the reasons for the formation of the ellipsoidal nanoparticles as well as the peculiarities of the process. The structure, Ag content, and optical properties of quantum dots are also investigated. The optimal conditions for maximizing both the reaction yield and IR photoluminescence quantum yield are found.

Pressure and temperature are powerful tools applied to perovskites to achieve recrystallization. Lamination, based on recrystallization of perovskites, avoids the limitations and improves the compatibility of materials and solvents in perovskite device architectures. In this work, we demonstrate tightly compacted perovskite laminates on flexible substrates via hot-pressing and investigate the effect of hot-pressing conditions on the lamination qualities and optical properties of perovskite laminates. The optimized laminates achieved at a temperature of 90 °C and a pressure of 10 MPa could sustain a horizontal pulling pressure of 636 kPa and a vertical pulling pressure of 71 kPa. Perovskite laminates exhibit increased crystallinity and a crystallization orientation preference to the (100) direction. The optical properties of laminated perovskites are almost identical to those of pristine perovskites, and the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) survives the negative impact of thermal degradation. This work demonstrates a promising approach to physically laminating perovskite films, which may accelerate the development of roll-to-roll printed perovskite devices and perovskite tandem architectures in the future.

The present work describes the comparison of the optical and structural properties between CdTe quantum dots (QD) synthesized in water and in the binary solvent (water + glycerin) via one-pot approach synthesis. The optical properties of the nanocrystals obtained with different synthesis parameters were characterized by UV-visible and photoluminescence spectroscopies. The structural chracterization were performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), zeta potential, size-distribution by dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and also by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The optical properties of CdTe QD when synthesized in the binary solvent were better, resulting in the increase of photoluminescence quantum yield (φƒ). The CdTe QD prepared in 120 min, at pH 10.0, in the Cd:Te molar ratio 20:1, using the molar ratio 1:1.5 of Cd:TGA (thioglycolic acid), exhibited a narrow photoluminescence band and enhanced φƒ for the samples synthesized in a binary solvent in comparison to water solvent (58.4 and 49.5%, respectively).

Over the past few years, the photogenic fabrication of metal oxide nanoparticles has attracted considerable attention, owing to the simple, eco-friendly, and non-toxic procedure. Herein, we fabricated NiO nanoparticles and altered their optical properties by doping with a rare earth element (lanthanum) using Sesbania grandiflora broth for antibacterial applications. The doping of lanthanum with NiO was systematically studied. The optical properties of the prepared nanomaterials were investigated through UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-DRS) analysis, and their structures were studied using X-ray diffraction analysis. The morphological features of the prepared nanomaterials were examined by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy, their elemental structure was analyzed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectral analysis, and their oxidation states were analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Furthermore, the antibacterial action of NiO and La-doped NiO nanoparticles was studied by the zone of inhibition method for Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus sublitis. It was evident from the obtained results that the optimized compound NiOLa-04 performed better than the other prepared compounds. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the phytosynthetic fabrication of rare-earth ion Lanthanum (La3+)-doped Nickel Oxide (NiO) nanoparticles and their anti-microbial studies.
