This chapter seeks to question and problematize the concept of cyber-utopianism that has characterized the phenomenal increase of digital activism in the African continent in the last decade. Using tweets collected between November 1, 2015 and May 1, 2016 on the #ZumaMustFall digital activism as a case study, the chapter argues that the ability of new media technologies in digital activism to create awareness has created a sense of euphoria that digital activism can bring about political, economic and socio-cultural changes. The study revealed that #ZumaMustFall digital activism has had limited impact as Zuma has not fallen and this can be attributed to the elite nature of the movement that has excluded vast majority of ordinary South Africans from the activities of the movement. In addition, the racial coloration of the movement (i.e. identity) hindered the movement from reaching out to the public who could have actively participated in translating the movement from the online space to the offline space and achieve their goals and objectives.

Often without guidance in completing college-related tasks, first-generation students face unique challenges during the summer before college. This case study investigates this critical time period by studying a cohort of 33 newly graduated students from the same urban, public high school. Guided by social capital, college readiness, and nepantla frameworks, results shed light on students’ barriers and pathways to transitioning to postsecondary education. The authors call for an extension of college readiness frameworks to the summer before college and also problematize the notion of a college-ready student.

Youth face challenges like unemployment, poverty, career gloom, poor mentorship, resources shortage, including access to facilities and information. A small percentage of the millions of high school graduates continue with tertiary education. The untested and tried millions of youth possess potent innovation and creativity that could contribute to socio-economic transformation in general and more so for the transition of Southern African states. Some of these youth join the labor market and others become entrepreneurs for survival but lack skills, creativity, and innovation. Here the circular economy presents opportunities and gives a chance to exploit their innovation and creativity potential. Adopting an exploratory method and data collection from the extensive literature review, interviewing experts, and personal experience, the objective of this study is to deliberate how innovation can harness youth entrepreneurial potential for much needed social and economic development. Stakeholders' feedback and insights sync with the literature on circular economy and inclusive innovation.

Choosing a career and career path is very important and difficult for many young secondary school graduates, especially since very few students in Romanian schools benefit from personal and professional counseling and guidance during their high school years or in the period immediately preceding the enrollment in the high school or professional cycle. In this sense, even if in many county events are organized in which each school promotes its educational offer, after the end of the admission process and enrollment of students, too little emphasis is placed on the reasons that led high school graduates to choose a certain educational institution. This study accomplished in a technological high school in Alba County captures exactly this aspect, while highlighting students' perceptions about success in life, counseling and career guidance, as well as the factors they consider to be determinants of academic and professional success. This educational unit was not chosen by chance, here operating the first dual vocational school in Alba County and among the first of its kind in the country.

This study aims to determine the factors that influence employment absorption of vocational high school (SMK) graduates. This research is a case study in three Vocational Schools with a sample of 120 people from 11-12th grade students. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire and analyzed with the help of the Lisrel 8.80 program. This study found that the School Management (SM) and Industrial Environment (IE) variables had a positive effect on the Teaching Factory (TF) variable. Furthermore, all three variables (SM, IE, and TF) have a positive effect on the absorption variable of vocational high school graduates (ALV). Even the SM and IE variables have a greater positive effect than TF on the ALV variable. This means that the Tefa (TF) program still does not support graduates in getting jobs, especially because it is more directed towards low skills and unable to meet DUDI needs for middle and highs level competencies. It is recommended that the government needs to authorize schools to develop education in accordance with environmental condition potential, increase cooperation between schools - local governments - DUDI, enhance Tefa learning which refers to developing secondary and high skills to meet competencies according to the needs of the world of work by developing curricula and work practices together.
