Thysananthus ciliaris, a rare and poorly known species from Southeast Asia, is newly discovered in Singapore in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Its oil bodies are here reported for the first time for the species. The geographical distribution of all published occurrences of the species is briefly discussed. Provisional conservation assessments are given at the global and Singapore national levels based on current knowledge. A lectotype is designated in a second step lectotypification.

In the present work, a total of 339 nominal taxa of helminths (53 trematodes, 46 cestodes, 12 acanthocephalans, 227 nem-atodes, and 1 hirudinean), associated with 136 taxa of wild mammals from Mexico, are listed. Information on hosts, hab-itat, distribution, and records is included; these data come from 242 localities, pertaining to 31 of the 32 Mexican states,and represent the current knowledge on helminth parasites of wild mammals in Mexico. Eighteen taxa of helminths are registered for the first time in Mexico, and 46 new locality records are presented.

Sporisorium elegantis, a smut fungus on Thelepogon elegans, is reported for the first time from Benin (West Africa). Based on this collection, an emended description and illustration of this rare species are provided. The geographical distribution of Sporisorium elegantis is documented for Benin, Nigeria and India. The disjunctive occurrence of this species between (western) Africa and India is interesting, though not exceptional in smut fungi. The mechanisms responsible for such a distribution pattern are not known.

A population of the rare species Strongylidium pseudocrassum Wang and Nie, 1935, was discovered from a lagoon in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and its morphology was investigated through protargol-impregnation, scanning electron microscopy and in vivo observations. Morphogenetic events of cell division and physiological reorganization were described for the first time to this species. It was found that S. pseudocrassum has the ventral cirral rows organized in the same manner as Pseudouroleptus caudatus Hemberger, 1985. However two independent primordia VI, one for the proter and other for the opisthe, are generated intrakinetally from the rightmost ventral cirral row. In addition, dorsal kineties replicate entirely “de novo” and do not fragment. Based on the data obtained, the genus Strongylidium was redefined and the species currently assigned to it were classified into five groups according to current knowledge on their ciliature and the combination S. lentum (Biernacka, 1963) nov. comb. is proposed.

Rhacophorus is a genus of tree frogs in the family Rhacophoridae commonly referred to as parachuting or gliding frogs, distinguished by extensive digital webbing. A rare species, Rhacophorus translineatus Wu, 1977, was recorded for the first time in Bhutan. Information on morphological characters, geographical distribution, habitat and natural history notes is provided.

Herein we report for the first time the occurrence of Phaenomys ferrugineus in the state of Minas Gerais and present additional data on the geographical distribution of Abrawayaomys ruschii and Rhagomys rufescens in this state. These latter two species were reported from some localities in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, but their presence in Minas Gerais state is restricted to few localities. These data reinforce the necessity of surveys over long periods of time and the use of pitfall traps in order to establish the real geographical distribution of small mammal species and to indicate priority areas for the conservation of this group of mammals.

This article reports the occurrence of the thalloid liverwort Cyathodium denticulatum Udar et Srivastava was collected first time from the Achanakmar – Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve (AABR) Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. It is shown that Cyathodium denticulatum a narrow Himalayan endemic has been reported earlier from Darjeeling, India. There is no record of its occurrence from central India. Cyathodium denticulatum is a rare species known only from eastern Himalayan region. A key to related Indian taxa and taxonomic description is provided.

Three rare species of discomycetes in the family Hyaloscyphaceae are reported from Central Russia (Oryol and Bryansk Regions). Proliferodiscus tricolor is recorded for the first time in Russia. Comments are made on Aeruginoscyphus sericeus and Eriopezia caesia previously reported only from Moscow Region and North Caucasus respectively.

: Melanoma is the most life-threatening and aggressive class of skin malignancies. The incidence of melanoma has steadily increased. Metastatic melanoma is greatly resistant to standard anti-melanomatreatments such as chemotherapy, and 5-year survival rate of cases with melanoma who have metastatic form of disease is less than 10%. The contributing role of apoptosis, angiogenesis and autophagy in the pathophysiology of melanoma has been previously demonstrated. Thus, it is extremely urgent to search for complementary therapeutic approachesthat couldenhance the quality of life of subjects and reduce treatment resistance and adverse effects. Resveratrol, known as a polyphenol component present in grapes and some plants, has anti-cancer properties due to its function as an apoptosis inducer in tumor cells, and anti-angiogenic agent to prevent metastasis. However, more clinical trials should be conducted to prove resveratrol efficacy. : Herein, for first time, we summarize current knowledge of anti-cancerous activities of resveratrol in melanoma.
