This study aims to describe the representation in the case of a woman in the discourse of SEA GAMES gymnastics athlete who was sent back home because of a virginity issue that was published by Kompas.com on the 29th of  November, 2019. The discourse is a hot topic because it raises the pros and cons. Besides social context, this study also describes the structure of the text consisting of macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure. The research approach uses critical discourse analysis by Van Dijk. The results of this study indicate that the news text has a main topic, namely the violation againts feminist values. The superstructure of the news text consists of an introduction, main text, and concluding part. Kompas.com through the micro structure chooses to use various diction in delivering news. In addition to diverse diction, the text is also built with cohesion and coherence to unify the meaning of discourse. The social context built by Kompas.com in this discourse, especially in representing womanis the persecution of women (gender bias) and professional violations of a person.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memaparkan representasi perempuan dalam wacana atlet senam SEA GAMES dipulangkan karena tidak perawan yangdiberitakan pada Kompas.com pada 29 November 2019. Wacana tersebut merupakan wacana yang sedang hangat diperbincangkan karena menimbulkan pro dan kontra di kalangan masyarakat. Selain konteks sosial, penelitian ini juga mendeskripsikan struktur teks berita yang terdiri atas struktur makro, superstruktur, dan struktur mikro. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis wacana kritis model Van Dijk. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa teks berita mempunyai topik utama, yakni pelanggaran nilai-nilai feminisme. Selanjutnya, superstruktur teks berita terdiri atas pendahuluan, inti teks, dan penutupan berita. Kompas.com melalui struktur mikro memilih untuk menggunakan berbagai macam diksi dalam menyampaikan berita. Selain diksi yang beragam, teks dibangun dengan piranti kohesi dan koherensi untuk menyatukan makna wacana. Konteks sosial yang dibangun Kompas.comterutama dalam merepresentasikan perempuan pada wacana tersebut adalah adanya penindasan terhadap perempuan (bias gender) serta pelanggaran profesionalitas suatu oknum.

General Meaning

Language is an essential feature of communication for all poeple. It is utilized through various tools and media, and singing songs is one of the traditional forms of communication. Songs are usually written for particular reasons, messages, and purposes, and sometimes targeted for specific audience or listeners. Song lyrics usually contain various themes such as social and current issues and problems which the songwriter strives to share through expressions of his or her ideology, thoughts and feelings. This paper is aimed to find out the text analysis, social cognition and social context in the humanity song entitled We Shall Overcome through Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis model. This model shows that the choice of words or the diction is cohesive and coherent and is able to communicate the general meaning of this humanity song. Furthermore, the social cognition in this humanity song is related with the current social context which involves the recent situation in Palestinine, where there is still in conflict with Israel.

This article is based on the assumption that language is not in a social vacuum. Language is more than a set of words that merely linguistic, but also social. Therefore, the current linguistic research should take into account the social dimension in the analysis are critical, such as van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis (CDA) research model. The critical discourse analysis research  considering the text, context, social cognition, and analysis/social context. Research steps include: exposing the macro structure (thematic), superstructure (schematic), and microstructure consisting of semantics, syntax, stylistic, and rhetoric. Accordingly, this study uses the method read and record while research data has been collected from Suara Merdeka and Kompas newspaper. Finally concluded that the language represents the ideology and power (symbolic) both individual and communal.

The phenomenal discourse on People Power after Pemilu 2019 is an opinion that was initiated by a central figure in Indonesia, namely Amien Rais. This discourse invited many responses, one of which was Yusril Ihza Mahendra. Yusril gave his argument about various complicated situations and the risk of governance under the umbrella of provocation of people power. The problem of this research is how is the structure of the text and the social context that builds Yusril's opinion on the discourse of people power? This research includes descriptive qualitative research. The approach used is the critical discourse analysis model Teun A. Van Dijk. The data analysis method used is the equivalent and contextual method. Data presentation is done informally. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that: (1) the structure of the text describes semantic, syntactic, and stylistic aspects; while (2) the social context that builds the discourse of People Power is the power and access that the author has.

Pada Japan Pop atau J-Pop nama Utada Hikaru merupakan penyanyi pop dan pencipta lagu yang tidak asing lagi. Disamping itu termasuk bintang besar di Jepang. Sangat menarik apabila teks lagu dari penyanyi ini dianalisis melalui analisis wacana kritis (Anawa). Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memaparkan analisis teks lagu first love dan Prisoner of love oleh Utada Hikaru dan bagaimana unsur kognisi sosial dan konteks yang terdapat dalam kedua lagu tersebut. Metode yang dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah studi kepustakaan (library research). Simpulan dari Analisis wacana kritis pada riset mini ini yaitu Tema pada kedua lagu kenangan dan kekaguman kepada orang yang dicintai. Sedang kognisi sosial lebih menekankan bahwa menikah muda bukan suatu halangan untuk berkarir, sedang konteks sosial kekaguman kepada penyanyi yang bilingual yaitu bisa berbahasa Jepang dan Bahasa Inggris.Keyword : Analisis wacana kritis, lirik lagu, kognisi sosial, konteks  AbstractThe song is something to entertain the listener, especially love songs. A famous Japan Pop, Utada Hikaru is a big star in Japan. It will be very interesting to analyze the song lyrics using critical discourse analysis. This study is aimed at explaining the analysis of song texts of Utada Hikaru’s songs, first love and prisoner and how the elements of social cognition and context existed in those songs. By using descriptive qualitative research, there were some conclusions taken. The conclusion of critical discourse analysis in this mini research is the theme on both songs of memories and admiration to loved ones. Medium social cognition more suppressed young married is not an obstacle to a career, is the social context of admiration for bilingual singers that can be watched Japan and English.Keywords: critical discourse analysis, song lyrics, social cognition, context

This research focuses on the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s speech in declaring Jerusalem as the capital city of Israel on December 2017. This research aims to: (1) identify the text structure of the speech, (2) describe the social cognition of this speech, (3) and to reveal the social context of this speech. The compiled data is analyzed by using Van Dijk’s CDA theory of socio-cognitive (1988). This theory has interrelated three dimensions of analysis consisting of text structure, social cognition, and social context. The method of this research is qualitative by using the descriptive analysis. The data source of this research is the speech text of Donald Trump declaration speech of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital on December 2017. The result of this research shows that there is semantic aspect (microstructure) used by Donald Trump: Background (7), Detail (4), and Presupposition (15). From the analysis, the researcher argues that Donald Trump tends to be pro-Israel. This is supported in the structure of the text by how it consistently uses direct language to influence the emotional attachment of the intended by using logical facts and emotional involvement to make negative out-group representations to get positive representations to them and their allies. Furthermore, social cognition reveals the ideology and partisanship of Donald Trump about this conflict. It can be identified clearly by correlating the context of this speech to something that related to Israel-Palestine conflict. In social cognition, as the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump has a massive influence to the international world, even though it caused pros and contras for all elements of society. Possible further research about critical discourse analysis can be conducted by analyzing other issues. In short, it is also a suggestion to the other researchers to investigate more variation data such as news, advertisement, movie, and so on

The emergence of pornography cases that had gone viral on social media with the tagline "V Garut" shocked the public because the act was committed by a woman and several men. The female suspect claimed that this act was done because of coercion and pressure that the male suspect had put on her. The research aims to explain the level of text, social cognition and social context of the pornography news of "V Garut" on the online media of TribunJabar.id. The research used a qualitative descriptive method with the theoretical approach of critical discourse analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation. The research object was related to the news of "V Garut" on the online media TribunJabar.id with two informants. The results of research at the text level in the elements of macrostructures, superstructures and microstructures explain the existence of a discourse indicating an unfavourable situation such as violence and marginalization on the role of "V Garut". Journalists’ social cognition tends to judge this case as “unique” phenomenon, not focusing on a social issue that must be addressed in society. Based on the analysis of the social context of this news, it can be seen that there is a powerful practice of the media and the authority’s access in reporting the “V Garut” case. <p>The ideology that is reflected in the discourse of Tempo Magazine in 2017 'the case of Mega Corruption e-KTP is seen from the text structure which includes the macrostructure. The global meanings studied are interrelated. The data obtained by journalists are used to discuss the topic of e-KTP case. "Fireball Corruption KTP". Superstructure discourse discussed based on the introduction, the contents, the cover, but not found conclusions. The preliminary section described has always supported the title of the discourse. The content section is the focus of journalist's study on e-KTP corruption issues. The closing section used by journalists always gives a settlement of the news presented. The microstructure of the discourse uses effective, straightforward and diction sentences. Ideology is seen from social cognition. There is a linkage of texts that journalists describe with the community. All perceptions and actions, and ultimately the production and interpretation of this discourse are based on the mental representation of every event that takes place. Events are presented based on a lot of evidence and believed to be true. Ideology is seen from the social context that includes the practice of power and access to affect the discourse. The practice of power in the discourse on the topic of mega corruption is related to the members of the People's Legislative Assembly and the Chief Judge of the Court. The Chief Justice used his power to reprimand the accused. Judging from the access that influences discourse then found a character who can use and or influence the discourse.</p>

Research that analyses critically on claims and additional information on a skincare product is a research that bring the novelty in critical discourse analysis, because the previous study focused on the advertisement or the packaging. Although most skincare products apply this method (using claims and additional information), researchers focus on one of the branded skincare products; Pond’s. The main reason is; this product is already widely known and used by the people in Indonesia. Trough critical discourse analysis model from van Dijk, the researchers discuss three dimensions (text, social cognition and social context) in claims and additional information in some products from Pond’s. There are seven Pond’s products as the data in this study. Besides, researchers used additional data in the form of a survey to five skincare products users. The results of the analysis are; (1) on the text dimension, the general aim is to attract the consumers to choose Pond’s as their skincare products. (2) In social cognition, company show marketing techniques that try to obscure the facts in additional information by using small and separated text. (3) In the social context, the influence of consumers who are easily attracted to a product because of the interesting slogan text makes Pond’s use the hyperbole language

The paper is aimed at exploring ideological power relations of globalization discourse through the analysis of the speech ‘The Backlash against Globalization’ of WTO’ s Director-General Mike Moore based on one of the Discourse Analysis (DA) approaches - Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). At first, the paper sets out the theoretical framework of CDA and the concepts of power and ideology and examines the importance of Systemic Functional Grammar (SFG) in CDA. Then the paper provides readers with the social context of globalization and analyzes the speech in the light of CD.  The findings and the conclusion of the paper prove the assumption that the speech is a tool for Director-General Mike Moore to express his power and ideology in the sense that he is in higher position and confirms that globalization is inevitable and the establishment of WTO is a product of this process helping countries, communities and people face the problems and challenges.
