The purpose of this study was to find out how parents can contribute to the early reading development of children in a Grade R class. The research was conducted in a low-income area in the Cape Flats. To gain a deeper understanding of the parents’ cultural values and aspirations when interacting with the Home-School Partnership Programme (HSPP) literacy programme, I elected to frame my study within the work of Paulo Freire, who argued that the purpose of education, at the time of his writing, was to make oppressed people passive. Qualitative data were gathered in a case study research design, utilising focus group interviews and semistructured questionnaire tools, as well as footage from a local broadcasting studio. The findings show that the parents, who were previously unable to assist their children with literacy skills at home, were keen to change and to be active partners in their children’s early literacy learning. This research is a descriptive example of how the home, the school and the community can collaborate in a meaningful and sustained way, especially in poverty-stricken areas where unemployment is rife.

Keywords: case study, Grade R, literacy, parents; Paulo Freire; poverty; qualitative

Data collection is a critical aspect of any research. To this point, it is very important that a researcher has a good understanding of why, where and how to collect data. Broadly speaking, there are two main research and data collection approaches; namely, quantitative and qualitative methodologies. These two approaches are used both in academia and professional domains. This study focuses on philosophical assumptions underpinning Information Systems (IS) research. The philosophical assumptions underlying interpretive, case study research tradition and approach implies a subjective epistemology and the ontological belief that reality is socially constructed. The study investigated the challenges of interpretive, case study research strategy and empirical techniques applied in the information systems discipline. This paper focuses on the realistic challenges that researchers face while conducting a qualitative, interpretive, case study, particularly during data collection.

The issue of job engagement has been central around the performance of employees as evidenced by the negotiations which have been aimed to serve as an impetus vehicle to seek attention for engagement. The process of engaging employees is vital for any organisation to succeed but it appears employees within the Zimbabwean medical sector feel neglected. The issue of job engagement has led to a standoff within the health sector. The study adopted the positivism research philosophy and the case study research design. The sample size was 140 respondents drawn from a population of 180 respondents and a structured questionnaire was adopted as the main research instrument. Findings revealed there is a positive relationship between Job characteristics and job engagement. Findings revealed also that there is a positive relationship between rewards & recognition and job engagement. Recommendations are that the medical sector should as a matter of urgency review its rewards systems to all of its employees to enhance job engagement and organisational performance.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the conditions of entrepreneurship in transition and post-conflict societies, using Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H) as a case study. There are many features of this country which make it an interesting case such. It was once a part of Yugoslavia and had a socialist regime. Post-socialism, B&H turned to creating and maintaining a market-based economy, making it a transition country. Lastly, the transition process has been disturbed and delayed due to the war that began in 1992. Design/methodology/approach – The author chose a single case study research design to present a unique case and to give in-depth analysis. The author has used the method of data triangulation to increase reliability and credibility of the case study research. Findings – The case study's findings reveal that three types of conditions influence entrepreneurship in B&H: socio-political, economic and legal. The paper has several implications; more specifically, inter alia, it has helped understand complexity of transitional environments and the implications of the same on entrepreneurship development. Originality/value – The paper adds to the existing literature on factors affecting entrepreneurial activity within a post-conflict context by simplifying categorization into three broad categories. By doing so, the paper emphasizes particular areas obstructing the development of the enterprise sector in B&H.

The link between regulations and innovation is puzzling. Some studies point to higher innovation performance as an effect of regulation, whereas other researchers disagree. A literature review shows empirical inquiries into various industries, with the financial sector attracting significant attention. The review also points to a company’s responses’ flexibility and complexity as variables mediating the relationship between regulation and innovation performance. These variables remain underexplored as empirical objects of analysis on a company level in the financial sector. By applying a case study research strategy, 100 launched financial service innovations’ performance is compared with qualitative data assessing flexibility and complexity in the project work, leading to the launch of these products into the marketplace by a major Danish financial company. Finally, these data are quantitatively tested with a multinomial logit model. The results contribute to the differing views on how regulations influence innovation by showing links between high flexibility and low complexity in firm response for improved innovation performance. Increased complexity, in turn, impedes performance. Hence, specific innovation efforts from management are critical for striking the right balance between flexibility and complexity to achieve success in connection with regulatory changes.

Kata kunci: arsitektur perilaku, kontemporer, studi kasus; studi perilaku, Yin ABSTRACTCase studies are empirical studies that investigate contemporary phenomena in real life contexts. Initially the case study research method was often used in the social science field. But along with the development of science, case study methods began to be used in other fields. The case study research method is the right strategy to use in research that uses the main research questions of “how” or “why”, it takes a little time to control the events being studied, and the focus of research is contemporary phenomena. In the case study method, researchers focus on the design and implementation of research. The purpose of this paper is to examine the case study research method formulated by Robert K. Yin and then look at its application in research in architecture and behavior. In research in architecture and behavior, the Yin case study method can be applied even though partially and can be combined with other methods. Qualitative research with observed cases include single or multi-case cases whose observations focus on human behavior and environmental settings. Keywords: behavioral architecture, contemporary, case study, behavioral studies, Yin
