The braking distance is one of the most important features of the braking system of a vehicle during its operation. The distance depends on many factors related to technical part of the vehicle, road surface or the driver. This paper focuses on the examination of the impact of the momentary weight of the vehicle on its braking distance. It aims at explaining the issue through practical tests and drawing conclusions for further research and practical application in expert activities.

The issues of optimization of the vehicle anti-lock braking system are considered. To increase the reliability of the system, it is proposed to use a brake distribution system adaptive to the quality of the road surface for a quick stop of the vehicle while maintaining controllability. The system together with sensors angular wheel speed included a microwave Doppler displacement and speed sensor. The use of the specified Doppler sensor made it possible to achieve a more accurate coincidence of the dependence of the braking force on the degree of adhesion of the wheels to the road surface by monitoring the ratio between the angular and linear speeds of movement. In this way, it was possible to minimize the braking distance of the vehicle while maintaining controllability under various driving conditions.

The study determined the effect of increased water content in a brake fluid by measuring its hydration and boiling temperature and examining the impact of brake fluid wear on the safety and reliability of a braking system. Within the scope of work, the temperature of the brake discs was determined according to the braking distance. An experimental bench was set up to determine the boiling point of the hydrated brake fluid. The position is designed to reflect the operating conditions of intense braking and lead to the boiling of the brake fluid. A summary of all laboratory and operating tests of the brake fluid tested allowed the minimum braking distance to be determined after which the brake fluid of varying degrees of hydration (over various operating periods) could boil beyond the permitted boiling point.

AbstractOil leak from vehicles is one of the most common pollution types of the road. The spilled oil could be retained on the surface and spread in the air voids of the road, which results in a decrease in the friction coefficient of the road, affects driving safety, and causes damage to pavement materials over time. Photocatalytic degradation through nano-TiO2 is a safe, long-lasting, and sustainable technology among the many methods for treating oil contamination on road surfaces. In this study, the nano-TiO2 photocatalytic degradation effect of road surface oil pollution was evaluated through the lab experiment. First, a glass dish was used as a substrate to determine the basic working condition of the test; then, a test method considering the impact of different oil erosion degrees was proposed to eliminate the effect of oil erosion on asphalt pavement and leakage on cement pavement, which led to the development of a lab test method for the nano-TiO2 photocatalytic degradation effect of oil pollution on different road surfaces.

The data were collected by researchers at the Road Research Institute, in a study investigating the impact of differentfactors on road surface strength. In this statistical analysis, we apply linear mixed models (LMMs) to clustered longitudinal data, inwhich the units of analysis (points in the road) are nested within clusters (sample of four different road segments), and repeatedmeasures of road strength in these different points are collected over time with unequally spaced time intervals. The data arebalanced – each cluster has the same number of units, which are measured at the same number of time points. Because of correlateddata and different clusters in which data could be correlated, linear regression models are not appropriate here, and therefore linearmixed models are applied.

This study aims to identify the extent of the response of operating banks in Jordan to the anti-money laundering and terrorism financing instructions set by the Central Bank of Jordan, and to enumerate the effectiveness of these sets of laws, the echelon of cooperation with the relevant government agencies and the impact of contiguous political and security conditions on the anti-money laundering and financing of terrorism. To attain the objectives of this study and to test its hypotheses, a descriptive analytical method was followed based on related data of the Central Bank instructions and the engaged procedures by operating banks to combat money laundering and financing of terrorism. Therefore, a questionnaire was designed and distributed to the managers of anti-money laundering departments in operating banks in Jordan. The study shows various outcomes, the most important is the high responding of operating banks in Jordan to the instructions of the anti-money laundering and terrorism financing issued by the Central Bank of Jordan. The existence of practical application of money laundering and terrorism financing instructions fights against money laundering and terrorism financing in banks in Jordan at a soaring level. In addition to the functional cooperation by the competent governmental authorities in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing, this study introduces a set of recommendations to reinforce the cooperation level for every related party to achieve a high level of cooperation in the field of the anti-money laundering and financing terrorism.

To study the impact of the promotion of electric vehicles on carbon emissions in China, the full life carbon emissions of electric vehicles are studied on the basis of considering such factors as vehicle weight and grid mix composition, and fuel vehicles are added for comparison. In this paper, we collect data for 34 domestic electric vehicles, and linear regression analysis is used to model the relationship between vehicle weight and energy consumption. Then, a Hybrid Life Cycle Assessment method is used to establish the life cycle carbon emission calculation model for electric vehicles and fuel vehicles. Finally, the life cycle carbon emissions of electric vehicles and fuel vehicles under different electrical energy structures are discussed using scenario analysis. The results show that under the current grid mix composition in China, the carbon emissions of electric vehicles of the same vehicle weight class are 24% to 31% higher than that of fuel vehicles. As the proportion of clean energy in the grid mix composition increases, the advantages of electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions will gradually emerge.

Purpose Advances in digital design tools enable exploration and generation of dynamic building facades. However, some processes are formally prescribed and manually driven to only visualize the design concepts. The purpose of this paper is to present a proactive framework for integrating parametric design thinking, paying particular attention to building facade patterning. Design/methodology/approach This work developed the PatternGen© add-on in Autodesk® Revit which utilizes an analytical image data (AID) overlay approach as a data source to dynamically pattern the building facade. The add-on was used to manipulate the placement rules of curtain panels on facade surface geometry. As means of validating this research model, a real-life design project has been chosen to illustrate the practical application of this approach. Feedback and observations from a short end-user questionnaire assessed qualitatively the facade patterning and panelization approach. Findings The proposed merge (or overlay) of AID images can be used as a parametric thinking method rather than just theory to generate and articulate dynamic facade design. The facade panelization responds to an AID that resembles design-performance data (e.g. solar exposure, interior privacy importance and aesthetics). Originality/value This work identifies a form of parametric thinking defined as the expression of geometrical relationships and its configuration dependent on the AID pixel Red Green Blue color source values. In this type of thinking, it explores the impact of the digital process and parametric thinking utility when driven by an AID overlay. The framework highlighted the practical application of AID pixel approach within a digital process to benefit both designers and computational tools developer on emerging design innovations.

A navigation method is presented for intelligent vehicle based on fusion of double laser radar. Given laser radar model and road curb model, road curbs are detected by one laser radar tilt-mounted on the intelligent vehicle, and they restrict the vehicle to travel inside the road surface. First, obstacle information from two laser radar are unified to same reference frame and fused, then they are implemented using angle potential field method, the best navigation angle is computed under the road curb restriction. Experiments show the algorithm works well in spite of road-boundary has regular shape or not, and is free from the impact of height difference of the road curb and road surface.
