scholarly journals Ecological Condition of the Sapalayivka River in the Conditions of Lutsk Urbosystem

Purpose. Determination of the main factors of anthropogenic impact of the urban system of the city of Lutsk on the river basin of the river Sapalaivka and assessment of the ecological condition of the river on the basis of MIR "Macrophytic index of rivers". Methods. Comparative-geographical, generalization, systematization, statistical, comparative-analytical, descriptive, cartographic. Results. In the Sapalaivka River, 21 indicator species of macrophytes were found in the surveyed test areas, among which - 8 plants belong to dicotyledons, and 13 plants belong to monocotyledons, using which the MIR values were calculated. Depletion of macrophyte species composition from 15-16 in test plots 1 and 2 to 2 species in test plot 3 indicates deterioration of the ecological condition of the river and the emergence of unfavorable conditions for macrophyte habitats. On the territory of the city, the section of the Sapalaivka riverbed, from the beginning of Potapova Street to the mouth, is mostly canalized, the species composition of macrophytes is depleted here and there is a specific smell of sewage. The part of the river that flows in the city (before Potapova Street), which was renaturalized in 2012-2016, has a richer species composition of macrophytes. Outside the city, the Sarpalaivka river basin is in good condition, as evidenced by the species composition of flora and fauna, as well as the intensive development of higher aquatic vegetation. Conclusion. As a result of the calculated ecological index of macrophytes MIR it is established that the water quality in the river Sapalaivka on the test site № 1, belongs to the II class, category - good and by trophic status is mesotrophic; on the test site № 2, belongs to the III class, category - satisfactory and eutrophic in trophic status; on the test site № 3, belongs to class IV, category - poor and trophic status is polytrophic. It is advisable to carry out further environmental measures, especially in the lower reaches of the river, in order to eliminate sources of water pollution, and to monitor the ecological status of the reservoir in order to restore the species composition of macrophytes and the ability to self-clean.

Introduction. To restore and preserve the optimal ecological status of the Western Bug river basin, it is necessary to adhere to the strategic principles of environmental management, and since the river is transboundary and tributary basins are located in Ukraine and Poland, it is important to determine the ecological status of small rivers. In the territory of the Volyn region, the rivers-tributaries Luha and Studyanka are most affected by anthropogenic impact. An ecological assessment of water quality based on the condition of macrophytes is given, as macrophytes llow to determine the degree of surface water degradation, first of all, in terms of their trophic status. The purpose of article. The purpose of article aims to assess the ecological status of the rivers of the Western Bug river basin using bioindication methods and determination of the Macrophyte Index for Rivers (MIR). Methods. Research methods are expeditionary, methods of mathematical statistics end bioindication methods and determination of the Macrophyte Index for Rivers (MIR). Results. To determine the ecological status of the rivers of the Western Bug basin and to conduct research, three test sites with a length of at least 100 m were laid on two tributaries of the first order - the rivers Luha and Studyanka. To determine the MIR (Macrophyte Index for Rivers) in the test riverbed areas, 42 indicator species of macrophytes were selected, of which 1 species belongs to the division Polipodiophyta and Equisetophyta, 40 species to the division Magnoliophyta, of which 15 belong to the class Magnoliopsida, and 25 belong to the class Liliopsida. According to the classification of the MIR indicator, to determine the ecological status, the rivers Luha and Studyanka belong to lowland watercourses, with the type of macrophytes - M-VIII (organic rivers). As a result of the calculated Macrophyte Index for Rivers (MIR), it was established (Table 4) that the water quality in the Luha river in test site 1 (Zavydiv village) has a good ecological status, MIR is 39,0; and test site 2 (Volodymyr-Volynskyi city) has a satisfactory or moderate ecological status, MIR is 31,56; in the river Studyanka, the test site 3 (Ustyluh town) has a satisfactory or moderate ecological condition, MIR is 28,31. Conclusions. According to the ecological status of rivers determined by the Macrophyte Index for Rivers (MIR), it is established that the waters of the Luha and Studyanka rivers have a satisfactory or moderate ecological condition. This suggests that the research conducted on test sites and calculations of the Macrophyte Index for Rivers (MIR) are identical and fully reflect the ecological status of the rivers Luha and Studyanka determined by hydrochemical parameters, which allows the use of this research algorithm for other rivers in the Western Bug river basin and is promising during research on other rivers of Ukraine.

The study of the quantitative and qualitative composition of the soil microbiota, which adequately reflects the degree of anthropogenic load, can be applied as an indicator of assessment of the ecological status of the soil of anthropogenically transformed biogeocoenosis. The aim of the article is to analyze the species composition of micromycetes of drained soils of the Trubizh river Basin as an indicator of the ecological condition of the soil of different degrees of economic activity. For microbiological analysis samples of organogenic (lowland deep and medium peat soils) and mineral (meadow-chernozemic) soils were used. The samples selected from four experimental plots with different degrees of anthropogenic load. In particular, the first plot is a long-term use fallow (more than 15 years) on deep peatlands, the second one is a field with corn for grain on medium peatlands. The third plot is a field with post-harvest soybean residues on medium peatlands and fourth one is fallow with annual and perennial grasses on meadow-chernozemic soils. Soil samples were taken from the root layer at a depth of 0-5, 5-10 and 10-20 cm according to the current DSTU. Isolation of micromycetes was carried out by dilution method of soil with the object of estimation of the concentration (number of colonies, micromycetes). The count of micromycetes was estimated on surface of potato-glucose agar and Chapek's agar plates and was determined by the number of colony forming units (CFU). It was established that in the plot with increased anthropogenic impact (field with corn for grain on medium peatlands) the total number of isolated micromycetes was twice less than in plots of fallow lands and soybean. There was observed very poor species compositions (13 species). 2 species (15%) of Zygomycota, where predominant concentration was Mucor plumbeus in the soil layer 0-20 cm and 11 species (85%) of Ascomycota were found. In all plots, the basis of micromycete complexes was formed by fungi-destructors of plant remains and root secretions of the genus Penicillium. The micromycetes of drained soils of the Trubizh river Basin was presented the biggest phylum Ascomycota (83-95.5%) and the phylum Zygomycota (4.5-17%) also.

According to the central aim of the European Water Framework Directive, the protection and sustained management of the aquatic ecological system, the ecological condition of a specific type of water, will be the primary parameter in future. Aiming at good ecological status in surface water bodies, population diversity and abundance of fish and macroinvertebrates is decisive. Free passage in river systems, to allow the natural migration of fish and all other aquatic organisms, is a prerequisite. To achieve this for the Ruhr River Basin a study has been commissioned in order to develop a master plan for river continuum restoration. Sustainable development aimed at promoting biodiversity in the surface water body system is a key objective. This project is complemented by investigations of the sediment – which is the nursery of the fish – in the rivers to identify river sections or tributaries which obviously provide a suitable habitat for the successful reproduction of big Salmonidae. The master plan illustrates the inherent problems of projects aimed at the restoration of fish passage in water bodies which are strongly affected by anthropogenic modifications. The results obtained may as well be transferred to other catchments with similar use patterns.

The research object is the territory of the secondary school #19 of the city of Yoshkar-Ola. The topicality of the research is determined by the necessity to reconstruct the existing landscape areas on this territory. For the project “The reconstruction of landscaped areas and improvements on the territory of the secondary school #19”, the authors have reviewed the landscaped areas. The analysis uses complete enumeration based on mensurational description. During the analysis, the authors defined species, taxonomic characteristics, sanitary and hygienic and esthetic values of each taxon. 290 woody plants were examined. Based on the acquired data, the authors analyzed the current landscaped areas on the territory and formulated the following conclusions: the density of plantations is much lower than the recommended values; the authors noticed only the traces of a green fence. However, the average values of the sanitary condition are 2 and 1, which means that the landscaped areas are in a good condition, and the species composition is in line with recommendations. Due to the fact that the school territory radius is 2 km, the condition of landscaped areas requires special attention. The scientific novelty of the research is determined by the fact that the landscaped areas on territory in question need to be reconstructed.

The article substantiates the method of assessing the ecological status of freshwater reservoirs using space geomonitoring and statistical criteria with several standards simultaneously, each of which represents the level of technogenic or anthropogenic load. To achieve this, the probabilities of the affiliation of their informative features to the informative features of each standard are calculated for each studied object (reservoir). The result is a quantitative estimation of the load, which is given in relative units or points. The approbation of the offered method for research of the changes in ecological conditions of reservoirs is done over the Kyiv Reservoir and lake Svityaz.During the study of the method, the correspondence of the obtained results using the statistical criterion to the real estimates of recreational load made by the method of multi-criteria optimization (MCO) and method of analysis of hierarchies (MAH) was determined. For this purpose, the correlation coefficient between the obtained result and recreational load, as well as the results of assessments based on MKO and MAH for the respective years was calculated, which averaged 0.8, which is quite acceptable for practical assessments of water ecosystem load. It was determined that water bodies are complex systems and their analysis takes place at different levels of abstractions, taking into account the relationship of their components: landscape complexes (LC), hydrological, hydrobiological and hydrochemical characteristics. The study found that the recreational load on Lake Svityaz is constantly increasing and has negative impact on its ecological condition. It was also found that the overgrowing of the upper springhead of the Kyiv Reservoir with higher aquatic vegetation is also currently increasing, which weakens the efficiency of the reservoir for purposes of water consumption.

Results of taxonomic, arealogical and ecological/biological analysis of aquatic flora of the Belaya River in the area of the city of Sterlitamak, the southern part of Bashkortostan have been presented. In the process of studies of water bodies and watercourses of the Belaya River basin near Sterlitamak 43 species out of 30 genera, 20 families and three divisions of supreme vegetations have been found. Water bodies’ flora of the territory under study is typical for the region and possesses an intra/zonal character. It has been shown that the mineralization degree and industrial waste water discharges of major cities directly affect the supreme aquatic vegetation structure and composition.

Purpose of the work is to characterize the geo-ecological condition of the reservoirs in Lviv in order to develop recommendations for the protection, conservation and enhancement of their functional use. Methods. Field, cartographic, historical, analysis and synthesis. Results. The geo-ecological state of modern reservoirs of Lviv has been investigated. Water pollution of represented reservoirs has been analyzed according to the fund and statistical materials. In the course of the field researches the physical parameters of the water condition have been analyzed, sources of pollution of reservoirs, clogging and overall assessment of coastal water protection strip shave been identified. Most of the reservoirs of Lviv are characterized by littering of the coastal strip, recreational impact, proximity to roads and residential buildings. The color of the water in the majority of the reservoirs is grayish-yellow, the transparency of the water is low, the smell is marsh or earthy-grassy. Ten of the twenty-three reservoirs under study have strong and over-eutrophication. In summer, some are completely overgrown with algae. The condition of the basin in 70% of Lviv reservoirs is natural. This contributes to the additional intake of pollutants from the catchment area. Ponds where the basin is covered with an artificial surface (mainly concrete) have better water quality. In particular, Levandivskyi has become the only one to have clean water at the beginning of 2019. In recent years, the water reservoirs of the city have been significantly shallow, due to the construction of catchment areas and the discharge of rainwater to the general sewer. Conclusions. Irrational use of city reservoirs leads to water pollution, siltation and overgrowth of urban reservoirs, rapid eutrophication, clogging, etc. Reservoirs near leased restaurants and recreational facilities are in the best condition. The ponds located in park areas (Stryiskyipark, Pohulianka, Shevchenko-ethnopark, Piskovi Ozera) are in a satisfactory geo-ecological state. The most neglected are the reservoirs of former industrial enterprises, which are under control of district administrations. Taking into consideration the multifunctional importance of reservoirs for the city, recommendations have been developed to improve their geo-ecological state, mainly they are organizational (monitoring the status of reservoirs, introduction of ecological passport of the reservoir, increasing control), technical (separation of rain and municipal sewage, technical care), educational (stands, eco-actions, festivals) measures.

The species composition, taxonomic structure, and the dominant complex of algae, and the distribution of phytoplankton abundance in the studied watercourse were identified based on data obtained for phytoplankton from the Ob River (from Tomsk to Salekhard) in summer 2019. Green algae (division Chlorophyta) make up the basis of the phytoplankton abundance in the river. The dominant complex is represented mainly by centric diatoms (genera Aulaсoseira, Cyclotella, Stephanodiscus) and non-heterocyst forms of cyanoprokaryotes (genus Aphanocapsa). The numbers and biomass of phytoplankton gradually decrease downstream of the Ob River; below the confluence of the Irtysh River, the edge effect occurs: increase in the diversity and density of organisms at the boundaries of ecosystems. Compared to the previous studies, the proportion of green and euglena algae, and cyanoprokaryotes in the taxonomic spectrum of phytoplankton increased, the composition of the dominant complex enriched, including due to non-heterocyst forms of cyanoprokaryotes, and the trophic status of the river increased to the category of eutrophic waters.

There is studied the ecological status of surface waters in Busk district. The attention is focused on the largest river Western Bug and its tributaries which essentially influence on the ecological condition. The analysis of hydrological monitoring in the basin of the Western Bug is done. Analysis of water pollution in the river is performed with use of fixed position state hydrological monitoring system posts. There are studied the data concerning pollution indicators for 2015 year and 3 seasons of 2016. A comparison of contamination in two points outside the district is carried out. There are considered river Poltva before its waters reach the district and flow into Western Bug and the river Western Bug after it lefts the district. The exceeding of the threshold limit values for some indicators is revealed. In all cases there is a slight excess of the TLV over the content of iron and ammonium ions. In Poltva have been considerable (3–6 times) exceeding the TLV for COD and BOD5, ammonium salt 8.4 times, total iron – 4.3 times, nitrites – in 6.75 times, suspended solids – 3.3 times, phenol – at 2.45 times. Therefore, the section of the city Buzka to the city Kamenka–Bug, Radekhiv bridge river water is not suitable for any water use. The self–cleaning of the water is happening within the district is and the second point of monitoring shows these indicators are within limits. The largest source of organic pollutants and nutrients into Western Bug River is the river Poltva. Insufficiently treated sewage of Lviv increases the level of water contamination. In the district however there are also a source of pollution of surface water with ions of ammonium and iron. For their identification the further observation are required.
