One source of learning in universities is a digital library. In the era of industry 4.0, most universities have implemented digital libraries in supporting the learning process. However, the reality shows that digital library management is still ineffective. Therefore, the implementation of digital libraries needs to be evaluated for determining the digital library effectiveness used as learning resources in supporting the learning process in universities. Many evaluation tools are used to evaluate the effectiveness of digital libraries but have not provided accurate recommendation results to support decision-making. This research presents an innovation in the form of an evaluation tool that can be used to evaluate the digital library effectiveness in universities. That evaluation tool is called the Alkin-WP-based digital library evaluation software. This software is a desktop platform that contains aspects of measuring the digital library effectiveness by referring to the components of the Alkin evaluation model and the WP (Weighted Product) method. This research aimed to show the effectiveness level of the utilization of Alkin-WP-based digital library evaluation software. This research method was R & D (Research & Development) which refers to the ten development stages of the Borg and Gall model. In this research, development was focused only on a few stages, included: usage trials, final product revision, dissemination, and implementation. The subjects involved in assessing the implementation/utilization of the Alkin-WP-based digital library evaluation software were 35 people, in the usage trials were six people, in product revision were three people, and at the stage of dissemination were 15 people. The tools used to collect data were questionnaires and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique used was descriptive quantitative. The effectiveness level of utilizing the Alkin-WP-based digital library evaluation software was 88.34%. It showed that the evaluation software had effective. The impact of this research results on the scientific field of educational evaluation is being able to show the existence of a new evaluation tool based on educational evaluation and artificial intelligence. That evaluation tool can easier for library heads to make policies for revamping digital library services based on accurate recommendations. Doi: 10.28991/esj-2021-01308 Full Text: PDF

The use of knowledge management tools definitely improves the quality of services offered by the digital libraries. As, these tools are mainly open source it’s easy to integrate these tools for the effective knowledge management given the condition, the basic purpose of implementation is clear. There may be different hurdles that might come while the implementation of the tools. These hurdles can be overcome with the help of the proposed framework which is very much efficient in integrating these tools with effective library management.

Purpose – This paper aims to provide a functional review of Greenstone based on selected criteria, viz., user friendliness, administration, customization, international metadata standards and interoperability, search and browse capabilities, security aspects, statistical reports, unique features and limitations. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is solely based on secondary information collected from different sources like books, articles from national and international journal articles, reports of various organizations and local newspapers as well as the resources available in various websites. Findings – It was observed that the Greenstone on Windows is less robust than the other operating systems such as Linux. It was reported that during the collection building process of some documents, the system hangs and the user has to turn off the browsers and the interfaces, and no alternate method is available to restore normalcy. The software has been reviewed on selected criteria, and it is suggested to use Greenstone Digital Library Management System (DLMS) system as the most suitable and convenient for installation, uploading of documents and usage for small- and medium-type organizations. Practical implications – This paper would be of great help for library professionals to learn about diverse features available in the software and in selecting the best DLMS. Originality/value – The Greenstone DLMS is functionally reviewed and analysed based on selected broad criteria, viz., user friendliness, administration, customization, international metadata standards and interoperability, search and browse capabilities, security aspects and statistical functions.

Technology is rapidly develop in various aspects of life, especially in the field of education In the world of education, technological developments are applied to the use of library information systems. Nowadays many developers have offered the system for free, one of them is TeknoLIB and SLiMS. This study aims to measure the quality of a library information system using TeknoLIB (Library Management System) and SLiMS (Senayan Library Management System) based on ISO 9126 standards. This study uses 4 research methods, among others: questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was obtained by grouping data from experiment result and personal observation, direct answer to resource person, giving some statement with informant consent, and giving conclusion related to library information system. It can be used as a reference for developers in building a library information system to be able to create a better system. The results of this study indicate that Information Library System TeknoLIB is more qualified in terms of system look compared to SLiMS based on ISO 9126 standards.

Based on the development of information technology, library management does not only come from print collections. The development of libraries today shows that electronic collections are the main resources in building libraries, especially digital libraries. Digital library has its own characteristics in the management system and user services. This means that digital libraries no longer rely on the large number of collections that are owned, still how much database access is owned and can be accessed by users. The growth of e-rosurces in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 is so fast and growing that the term big data appears. Digital library management in the era of big data needs to use methods to achieve transformation and innovation in service to users. Digital libraries need to position themselves in dealing with user behavior in accessing digital literature resources, and the use of scholarly big data outside of library collections. Digital libraries in the era of big data become new challenges and competencies for librarians. Librarians are required to be able to understand the characteristics of the needs of users and be able to analyze data for research, decision making, learning resources, and to provide sources of information that are beneficial to the wider community.
