This study investigated three aspects that related to Foreign Language (FL) reading anxiety: the FL reading anxiety levels; the relationship between FL reading anxiety and reading performance; the main sources of FL reading anxiety. With both quantitative and qualitative research method, the total amount of 47 Chinese postgraduates took part in a paper questionnaire including Foreign Language Reading Anxiety Scale (FLRAS) and reading test, Cambridge Advanced English (CAE). According to the FLRAS scores, 12 of them had one-to-one semi-structured interviews. The results shows that most Chinese postgraduates experienced a moderate level of English reading anxiety, and that international students have higher reading anxiety than domestic students. No statistically significant relationship was found between FL reading anxiety and the reading test. After thematic coding analysis, the main sources of English reading anxiety among international students were found to be ‘demanding text feature’ and ‘different class settings in the UK’. For domestic students, limited English exposure was the main source. Recommendations for teachers and for both groups of students are provided, and the limitations of the present study and suggestions for future research are discussed at the end of the paper.

Extensive reading has been received much attention because of its benefits for second language learners. This paper aims to determine the effect of the reading hour factor on the efficiency of extensive reading process of teenage students at North America International School. The experiment was conducted so as to find out whether increasing reading hours has any impact on learners reading performance. The study implications could either announce the teachers and educators the relationship between reading hours and extensive reading or employ in teaching and learning reading extensively. Besides, the revealed findings will provide the teachers proper insights of implementing a successful extensive reading program.

Pragmatic presupposition focuses on the study of the relationship between the speaker and the hearer at the time of communication and the language they used. It can effectively serve advertising language from the linguistic field. In other words, pragmatic presupposition can meet some of the requirements of the advertisements. Nowadays people confront a variety of commercial advertisements, such as food advertisements, drink advertisements, digital product and cosmetic advertisements, etc. In fact, advertising language is the core factor which determines the success or failure of one commercial advertisement. Most domestic and overseas scholars have studied advertising language through cooperative principles,rhetoric and systemic-functional grammar, etc. However, they do not pay enough attention to the pragmatic presupposition manifested in both Chinese and English cosmetic advertisements. Therefore, this paper conducts a comparative study based on previous studies of pragmatic presupposition with new data. The data analyzed in this study are taken from some major fashion magazines in America, United Kingdom and China, such as VOGUE, Cosmopolitan,Trends health,etc. These cosmetic advertisements were advertised in the recent 20 years. Through the analysis, it is found that there is no significant difference between Chinese and English cosmetic advertisements in terms of types of pragmatic presupposition manifested. Both Chinese and English advertisers mainly adopt four types of pragmatic presupposition: existential presupposition, factive presupposition, state presupposition and behavior presupposition, and state presupposition takes up the largest proportion. The present study provides a more comprehensive analysis of pragmatic presupposition and classification of it. In addition, the results of this study also could help advertisers and consumers increase their mutual understanding.

In order to improve the effect of English Teaching in multimedia environment, this paper proposes an English teaching method based on intelligent language AIDS in multimedia environment. Firstly, an intelligent speech teaching assistant system is designed in the multimedia environment. The software mainly includes four modules: new words and sentences, Chinese and English reading, voice evaluation, tools and settings. Learners can learn independently through the software, and teachers can also use the software to make various audio teaching resources in the classroom. In addition, the system can promote vocabulary teaching and support sentence pattern teaching and situational teaching in English teaching. The experimental results show that the average score of class 3A is increased from 86.35 to 86.79, with an increase of 0.64, which proves that the application of this method can effectively mobilize the enthusiasm of students in learning English and achieve good teaching effect.
