The aim of this paper is to describe a developed simulation model of the gPTP protocol for time synchronization in OMNeT++ using the INET library. gPTP is part of the IEEE TSN standards. Unfortunately, there is currently no simulation model of gPTP available. Therefore, we developed a new simulation model, compared it to results from the state-of- the-art, and would like to share it with the OMNeT++ community. The simulation model is based on the IEEE 802.1AS specification for full-duplex Ethernet according to a given network topology and use case scenario to analyze the results of the simulation as well as to provide a comparison with results from the state-of-the-art. Time synchronization and propagation delay measurements between time-aware systems are considered and results show that the simulation model works as expected.

Internet of Things (IoT) platforms have a great number of vulnerabilities which cyber-attackers can exploit. A possible solution largely contemplated in the state of the art is to make use of blockchain technology in any IoT system to enhance the security of the platform while improving other of its aspects. Although there are valuable benefits of the use of IoT platforms based on blockchain technology, it is worth studying the different alternatives between blockchain technologies, because all of them have their own limitations that are not suitable for every use case scenario. In this work, we listed a number of flaws that blockchain technology has in this respect. We have identified that, most of the flaws can be overcome by adapting the variants of this technology to the specific needs of the IoT platform. Every IoT system based on blockchain technology, should perform a systematic analysis of their needs, identifying what are the blockchain features sought for that scenario, to choose the solution that best meets the needs among the different blockchain technology alternatives.

Abstract Systemic approach to design of factories requires that engineering, organisational and economic aspects should be considered concurrently. That prompts the need to develop a solution, based on the state-of-the-art IT technologies, to enable us to solve the problems associated with foundry production planning. The paper outlines a methodology of creating the simulation model of a virtual foundry, as a tool for foundry design. An integrative approach is suggested for development of a complete foundry model, enabling the design of more efficient production systems. The underlying principles of such models are discussed, the basic stages involved in the methodology are outlined and the range of its applicability is defined.

Advancing the state of the art of simulation in the social sciences requires appreciating the unique value of simulation as a third way of doing science, in contrast to both induction and deduction. Simulation can be an effective tool for discovering surprising consequences of simple assumptions. This chapter offers advice for doing simulation research, focusing on the programming of a simulation model, analyzing the results, sharing the results, and replicating other people’s simulations. Finally, suggestions are offered for building a community of social scientists who do simulation.

In this paper, we discuss the state of the art and trends in the field of smart clothing development and show two circuits that we assembled in search for adequate solutions. The circuits are based on Arduino concept and achieve a full-duplex voice communication and real-time publishing of temperature measurement to a designated web page. The characteristics of the two circuits are discussed as well as the prospects for their future improvements.

In the last few years, the use of gestural data has become a key enabler for human-computer interaction (HCI) applications. The growing diffusion of low-cost acquisition devices has thus led to the development of a class of middleware aimed at ensuring a fast and easy integration of such devices within the actual HCI applications. The purpose of this paper is to present a modular middleware for gestural data and devices management. First, we describe a brief review of the state of the art of similar middleware. Then, we discuss the proposed architecture and the motivation behind its design choices. Finally, we present a use case aimed at demonstrating the potential uses as well as the limitations of our middleware.

Various authors have emphasized the spatial information resident in an electron micrograph taken with adequately coherent radiation. In view of the completion of at least one such instrument, this opportunity is taken to summarize the state of the art of processing such micrographs. We use the usual symbols for the aberration coefficients, and supplement these with £ and 6 for the transverse coherence length and the fractional energy spread respectively. He also assume a weak, biologically interesting sample, with principal interest lying in the molecular skeleton remaining after obvious hydrogen loss and other radiation damage has occurred.
