Despite sufficient research studies in the field of drug abuse, drug relapse remains one of the salient aspects that has received less attention among research experts. This study thus investigated the prevalence of drug relapse among clients in NDLEA (National Drug Law Enforcement Agency) rehabilitation centres in North Central, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted for this study. Censors sampling method, that is, only the available clients or respondents (during the conduct of the study) at the rehabilitation centres in the North Central region participated in the study. A researcher-designed questionnaire on "Prevalence of Drug Relapse" was used to collect the relevant data. The instrument had a reliability co-efficient of 0.69 using the test re-test method. All hypotheses were tested using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistics at a 0.05 level of significance. The main findings of the study revealed that drug relapse is moderately prevalent among clients in NDLEA rehabilitation centres in North Central, Nigeria. In view of this, it was recommended that NDLEA and other stakeholders should intensify efforts in identifying more addicted individuals so that they can go through the rehabilitation process and adjust effectively to their environment and avoid returning to drug/substance use after treatment.

This paper evaluated the influence of PDP on Basic School Teachers’ Classroom Practices in North-Central, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. In selecting samples for this study, 746 basic school teachers were purposively selected from 84 sampled Basic Schools across three sampled states using stratified sampling technique out of the six states and Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The Questionnaire “Influence of Professional Development Programmes ”(IPDP) with reliability index of 0.74 was used. One - Way Analysis of Variance was used to test the hypothesis at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed no significance influence of teachers’ participation in PDPs on psychomotor and affective classroom practices based on experience (F (2,724) = .018, p = 982); and F(2,724) =.628, p = .534) were observed .Consequently, teachers’ participation in PDPs had no significant influence in psychomotor and affective classroom practices based on years of experience. There is need to make the programme more effective in term of organization and implementation as antidotes to the hindrances confronting the PDPs in North-Central, Nigeria.

The paper examined the perception of student counsellors studying Guidance and Counselling in various Nigerian Universities on ethical codes which should guide and protect the counselling profession. Four research questions were raised to guide the study and two corresponding hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The study adopted the descriptive survey design, with a sample of 1,500 students, drawn from selected Nigerian universities using the multistage sampling technique. The instrument used to gather data for the study was a 50 item questionnaire constructed by the researcher. The psychometric properties were determined and found adequate for use. The test-re-test method was applied to determine reliability which yielded r = 0.88. Senior lecturers in the Department of Guidance and Counselling ascertained content and construct adequacy of the instrument. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer research questions and t-test to test the hypotheses. The study found out that respondents perceived counselling codes highly irrespective of their gender and religious beliefs although male respondents showed stronger agreement. It was therefore recommended that the Counselling Association of Nigeria should develop counselling ethical codes for professional counselling practice in Nigeria without considering any bias for gender and religion.

Globally, drug trafficking has generated a lot of violent crimes. In Nigeria, among all the drugs trafficked on, Indian hemp appears responsible for much bigger portion of the violent crimes than most people realize. Perhaps, the reason for this is not unconnected to the fact that Indian hemp is the only illicit psychoactive substance produced in the country. In fact, between 1990, when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) was established, and 2009, about 117 deaths of NDLEA officials have been recorded; and a significant proportion of this deaths resulted from Indian hemp related cases. This paper is an attempt to create awareness, explore the peculiar challenges and proffer workable strategies for interrupting Indian hemp induced violent crimes against Nigerians.

This study investigated the influence of various negative life events on adolescent depression among in-school adolescents in Southwest Nigeria and whether there is gender difference in the association. The descriptive research of the survey type was adopted for the study. The population of the study was all the adolescents, both male and female, in all secondary schools in the southwest of Nigeria. A total of 1650 adolescents between the ages of 12 and 18 years were selected using multistage sampling technique. A self designed questionnaire titled “Assessment of Negative Life Events and Depression Scale” (ANLEDS) was used to elicit information from respondents. The instrument was validated and the reliability was ensured using test re-test method. The reliability co-efficient was 0.75 at 0.05 level of significance. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive analysis for the general question raised while hypotheses 1 was tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation and hypotheses 2 was tested using student’s t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that negative life experiences are significantly related to the development of depressive symptoms among adolescents and the association is influenced by gender difference. Based on the findings, it was recommended that school counsellors should organize programmes to create more awareness and encourage adolescents to discuss their challenges with a view to reducing adolescent depression in Southwest Nigeria.

This study examined the relevance of the quality and quantity of courses offered in colleges of education to account for differences among students. Two research questions and hypotheses were each answered and tested respectively. The study adopted a survey design with a population target that comprised students from colleges of education in the North Central zone of Nigeria. 510 respondents were randomly selected from both federal and state colleges of education proportionately. A “Course Contents Requisite Questionnaire (CCRQ)” was drafted and validated of which its reliability tested with a Cronbach’s coefficient alpha gave .714. The data generated were analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics. Results showed that students found it difficult to properly grasp in-depth knowledge due to too many courses offered; GSE courses offered by students should be reduced and not beyond 200 level; no add and drop options and less than 40% of enrolled candidates complete within three years. It was recommended that a 3-term GSE courses be reduced and terminate at 200 level; NCCE to legitimately organize a workshop to address the inadequacies discovered in structural organization of the current contents; add and drop of course option be available in colleges among others.

The corrugated industry typically quantifies crush resistance using the Concora corrugated medium test (CMT) on fluted medium or flat crush on combined board. These tests compress the materials until the point of complete failure of the flutes. Combined board elastically resists crushing forces until a certain point, the hardness of the structure, while additional load causes permanent damage and deformation. This study investigates how hardness can be measured directly from a load curve collected during CMT (or flat crush) testing and how it varies throughout the North American paper supply. It also explores how hardness correlates with the values obtained from the newly developed S-test. This new test method deserves further study as a potentially more appropriate specification for crush resistance of corrugated medium.
