The study aimed at finding the relationship between audit quality, abnormal audit fee and auditor attributes. The study employed ordinary least square regression technique to analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variable. Samples of fourteen banks were selected using judgmental sampling technique. The results reveal the existence of positive relationship between abnormal audit fee and audit quality at 5%. Second, the influence of auditor independence on quality appears to also be positive and significant at 5%. Third, the effect of Auditor tenure on audit quality appears to be positive and insignificant at 5%. The study recommended that apex bank should ensure that all factors that hamper auditor independence should be removed unduly long auditor tenure should be discouraged to avoid over familiarity of auditor with the client.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of audit fees and audit risk on audit quality with auditor professional skepticism as a moderating variable. This research was conducted at 8 public accounting firms in Makassar city with 40 respondents. The analytical method used is multiple regression analysis (Moderated Regression Analysis) which is used to measure the strength of the relationship between two or more variables. The results of this study found that the audit fee variable had a negative and not significant effect on audit quality. These results illustrate that the higher the audit fee received by the auditor, the audit quality will decrease. While audit risk is not a significant positive effect on audit quality. The results of this study illustrate that the higher the audit risk, the audit quality will decrease. The auditor's professional skepticism as a moderating variable is not able to strengthen the effect of audit fees on audit quality. Furthermore, auditor professional skepticism as a moderating variable is also unable to strengthen the effect of audit risk on audit quality

This research aims to look at how firm characteristics and audit quality can affect the earning management practices in the Egyptian context, within the period of 2011–2019. This period was after the Egyptian revolution and has not been well investigated in Egypt, especially after the new release of corporate governance rules for listing firms. A sample of 157 non-financial listed companies in the Egyptian stock exchange is selected for achieving the research objective through analysing their financial reports. The panel least squares, using the fixed-effect model, is used to test the hypotheses and investigate the relationship between discretional accruals and firm characteristics, where the dependent variable is the earnings management, measured by the discretionary accruals and the independent variables are the firm characteristics (size, financial leverage, age, survival and audit quality). The results illustrate that the relationship between a firm’s financial leverage and earnings management is positive. This study may help the firms to control their financial leverage for avoiding any earnings management practice. The stakeholders should notice such significant firm characteristics in making their own decisions, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, which may expectedly increase the firm financial leverage, and in turn, some earning management practices can be used intentionally to hide the bad firm performance

The attitude of SMEs owner-manager comprises of several factors; however, current study identifies few critical factors such as motivation, awareness and risk in the context of Pakistan. The study also includes the personal and firm characteristics as moderating variables to examine their effect on the relationship between attitude and financial decision making of owner-managers. Design/methodology/approach With the help of a structured questionnaire, total 285 valid responses are analyzed to accomplish the research objectives. The study uses SPSS and partial least square-structural equation modeling techniques in order to conduct analysis. The results of study highlight the importance of attitudinal factors such as awareness and risk. Moreover, the moderating effect of personal characteristics on the relationship between attitude and financial decision making has been found strong instead of firm characteristics. Findings The results show that the low awareness level of owner-managers regarding financial products and procedures significantly affects their attitude. Moreover, the less knowledge of financing terms as well as dominant role of owner-managers in taking firm decisions also increase the negative effect of risk factor on SMEs owner-manager attitude. Research limitations/implications The study suggested that policy makers should focus on the financial awareness of SMEs owner-manager to reduce the negativity of risk factor. Originality/value The study contributes toward the literature of inclusive finance and sustainability studies through better understanding of financial decision making of SMEs in emerging economies.

The relationship between audit quality and earnings management has not been tested with consideration of key audit matters as a mediating variable. This study examined whether audit quality (AQ) decreases earnings management (EM) in shareholding corporations through improving key audit matters (KAMs) in Jordan’s emerging environment. A regression analysis was carried out on a sample that included financial reports and auditor reports of 105 industrial and service shareholdings companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) from 2017 to 2019. The study found a negative relationship between audit quality and earnings management. The results showed that audit quality increases key audit matters, which, in turn, decreases earnings management. Also, the study confirmed the mediating effect of KAMs between audit quality and earnings management. The study confirms the importance of key audit matters to provide more relevant and useful information for the users of financial reports and provides important indications to the regulatory authorities and standards bodies that key audit matters should be given more attention regarding the way that they are presented and disclosed.

Kata kunci:Audit internal, audit eksternal, kualitas audit, tindak lanjut audit, ukuran audit.ABSTRACTThis study examined the effect of audit size and the audit follow up on the audit quality in Indonesia. Indonesian government has two audit institutions: external and internal audit. The audit follow up  is the progress of implementing audit recommendation from the external audit to correct the audit subject’s financial report. This study analyzed data of 33 provinces from 2009 to 2013 from Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan’s Audit Report Summary (ILHP BPK) and Local in Figures from Badan Pusat Statistik (DDA BPS) using Ordinary Least Square and Two Stage Least Square. This study found that the number of audit follow up and audit size are statistically significant to influence the audit findings although the internal audit sizes based on the auditor’s number, the number of subject unit and the number of provincial employees are statistically significant only to the number of audit findings. It implies that the number of audit follow up affects the audit findings as a whole without being disturbed by the nominal amount of audit follow up. There are no previous studies which measure the effect of audit follow up on audit quality. This study added the important question on the relationship between audit sizes and the effectiveness of audit follow up on audit quality in government institutions especially in local governments. Keywords:Internal audit, eksternal audit, audit quality, audit follow up, audit size
